Lucid and logical
My DH had two falls two days apart at his MC, where he has lived for about five weeks or so. The second fall, yesterday, occasioned a trip to the ER. Other than a knot on his head and some bruises and scrapes, he was allowed to go back to MC.
Today when I visited him, he was more lucid than he'd been since he went in there and wanted badly to leave the MC, said he didn't like it there, wanted to go out (as he puts it) with me, said I don't love him, there's nothing to do, etc. This behavior, after weeks of adjusting and not complaining when my visit ended for the day, freaked me out and brought back the guilt once again. It was as though he came out of a long deep sleep and realized where he was.
When he lived at home, he complained of not having anything to do and told me I should find stuff for him to do, which is not an easy thing when nothing works (no tv, no music, can't read, etc), other than ripping up papers and putting away the dishes.
I'm not questioning the behavior, just venting because the guilt is so hard to handle and because I understand why he doesn't want to be there. I wouldn't want to live there either, even though they treat him kindly and try to get him to go to activities.

Many PWD want to go home. To them home is a feeling not a physical place. Even those who still live at home say they want to go home. It’s caused by anxiety. Is he on anti anxiety meds? There are tips on Teepa Snow and Tam Cummings videos about how to handle those questions about home. No need to feel guilty. You are doing this for him.
