Anniversary

Yesterday was our 47th anniversary. So I got a nice card for my wife who has FTD and put a loving note in it. I had a dentist appointment at 2:00 to finish two crowns so I spent quite a while there. She never got up until I woke her up at 5:00 for dinner. I gave her the card and she had no comment. At dinner she announced it was our anniversary. It must have been on her phone’s calendar. After dinner, she went right back to bed and will stay there until I get her up for dinner today. A day in our lives…

On our 49th anniversary I somehow thought that if I said or did the right thing I could make it at least a little special, but of course that didn't work and I was disappointed. On our 50th anniversary I didn't even try to do anything special it was just another day. It was a little sad but I didn't have the disappointment of missed hope. It is all so joy draining.

I’m sorry for the disappointment/letdown. I tell myself just think of that special day as just another day, but when that day rolls around my heart breaks a little more. We are only human.

Our 57th was last month. I made a special dinner and told her "Happy Anniversary". She said " Oh, is that today?" She did enjoy the dinner though.

mwool- we completely understand. On our last anniversary , I pulled out the wedding album. As I was enjoying the beauty of the day and how young and happy we were, I looked over and my husband was asleep in his recliner. I too, feel married and alone, but blessed for the live we have lived.

It’s hard to explain that ache in your heart to anyone who hasn’t experienced it. We know how you feel. Like @trottingalong I too tried to think of the special occasions as just another day, or maybe I made a special meal (more for me than for him) but it was still sad that I was basically celebrating alone. My DH is gone now so it remains to be seen how those special days will affect me now - I’m blessed with some good memories that I hope will overshadow the loneliness.

Sunday is our 57th anniversary, I find my wife’s progression going slow other then repeating and forgetting more frequently, diagnosed 3 yrs ago Nurologist says stage 2
