FTD then reassessed with Alzheimer's disease

DW was diagnosed with logopenic variant of Primary Progressive Aphasia in March 2022. In August 2024, it was recommend to have an amyloid PET Scan. The PET Scan showed and confirmed that Alzheimer's disease was causing the aphasia not frontotemporal lobe degeneration. I've seen it referred to as atypical Alzheimer’s. Also, heard that once in the moderate state symptoms follow typical Alzheimer’s. Anyone else have their loved ones diagnosed with lvPPA with Alzheimer’s pathology? I've seen research that show life expectancy ranges from 7-12 years. She would be 4 years since diagnosis has still has all ADLs intact. However, in February she started wandering and month later onset of additional symptoms include agitation and anger. She assessed to be in the moderate stage now.

My DW was diagnosed with PPA the summer of 2023 and later hit the official diagnoses of Alzheimer’s in Oct 2023. The doctor told us that the Alzheimer’s probably started several years prior. My DW has EOAD and is now 56. She can still eat on her own and still walks without help but I need to help her showering, dressing and is now in pull ups. I wouldn’t go by estimates of the progression because every person with Alzheimer’s is different as far as progressing. You’re in a good place now on this forum though sorry you have to be here. So sorry for the reason you are here but you have found the best place for caregiver information and support. My spouse is 50 and in late stage 5 most days. The timeline is one of the hardest parts for us caregivers especially those who find themselves here "early". Try not to worry about the timeline too much but rather try to better understand the likely stages and journey. For nearly everyone it is a marathon no matter how you look at it. Come here often….it helps so much
