A Little Humor (I hope)

I thought I'd share something I shared with a grief support group in hopes you might get at least a smile from it today. All any of us can do to find a smile a day is helpful, kinda like a vitamin a day:)

In a recent post I expressed my frustration with knowing how to navigate this life after and feeling confused and floundering. Within that post I told others, "I don't know what the hell I am doing!". No one gave me a manual, a playbook, a blueprint, a GPS, etc. to follow to navigate this path. " Who has mine? Please give it back!"

I then thought when I (I am a late joiner to Facebook) gave in to my family and joined Facebook, I went to find a resource to help so I found "Facebook For Dummies". I am thinking I need something like that for now, all the while knowing it was silly, but I actually went to Amazon and did a search. Low and behold, there it was "Grieving For Dummies". I was shocked, could not believe anyone would actually write such a thing but it was there to order. While I know I am a dummy sometimes I did not order this book. Maybe it was my DW doing her part to give me a smile that day to help me take another step forward. She always had my back.

I know we often feel like dummies when we don't know something. I've used several books in that series and found them well-written and respectful. On the other hand, I don't think the reason we have trouble with grieving is a lack of knowledge, and I don't know that more knowledge will help with the abyss.

I agree, reading anything and everything I can find is interesting but it does not stop my grieving or really help that much. Now and then I find a tiny fragment that explains something which is helpful but we just have to find our way, walk in our own shoes, stumble over and over, fall on our face many times and pray we come out the other side in time. I just found it so shocking to find that someone had actually written and published a book of that title. My belief and definition of deep, hard grief is that it is deep, hard love without a place to be given any more. As long as I breathe that love will not lessen and my grief will not diminish. I just have to learn to carry it better to survive.
