My DH has periods of being so close to normal at times except for some short term stuff. Its weird but it worries me more when he is in this stage because usually when he changes it's usually worse than when he started in the normal period. I don't know if that makes sense to anyone or if anyone has has noticed this.

I can have a perfectly normal conversation with my mom. We talk about the weather, grandkids, food, day to day stuff that doesn’t matter. Every now and then she starts to talkabout her wants, needs( perceived) plans for the future and her living arrangements. All of a sudden the dementia is very clear and obvious. Those normal conversations lull me in to feeling kind of normal, making things seem even worse when she start in on being perfectly capable of living on her own and making unrealistic demands. It’s kind of a roller coaster (not a fun one).

It makes absolute sense. At times, at least in my situation, it almost seems like things are returning to “normal”, then a cognitive impairment (in my situation it’s forgetfulness sometimes impaired reasoning) that pulls me back to reality & reminds me that all is not well. It’s a strange disease & affects each person differently. Thanks for sharing!💜

That's how it is here. DH has ALZ and vascular disease. There for a long time, he would have such long stretches of being "perfectly normal" that I almost forgot his diagnosis. But, those days are over now.
