Is this the best we can do?

I'm sitting here waiting for my wife to die. She hasn't eaten and taken fluids in 7 days. Hospice tells me her body is shutting down and that she is not really suffering. And yet we are giving her morphine and ativan to "keep her comfortable".

In this society we can put our animals "asleep" when they are terminal to keep them from suffering. But we can't do this for our loved ones. In what world does that make any sense?

My wife needs peace. I pray that she gets it today.

Thankfully she is not suffering. My mom had a slow peaceful passing as well. Pray to God for mercy.

I pray you both find peace soon.

You are living the nightmare I am dreading. Yes, there should be a better way.

You are there for her and I believe that is the very best thing you can do. At some point, it is in the hands of a Higher Power, but it is grueling and one of the heaviest things we will do. Godspeed to you and your beloved wife.

Praying for her peaceful passing. Some states do allow assisted suicide for terminally ill people, but none for people with dementia. I'm so sorry you are going through this.
