Almost hate to post this, but warning: the default setting is that your profile including email and zip code can be viewed publicly!!!! This is awful!!! Needs to be changed asap!!!

Thank you for the warning, M1. There are privacy settings under Account & Privacy where one can block e-mails from being displayed and also block the profile from being displayed publicly. I checked both of those, then logged on from a different device and without logging in. Both my profile and e-mail were blocked from public view.

In the past the profile was a nice way to learn a little bit about posters without their name and location being revealed. I hope that will be the case on this new messaging system, but at the moment it appears that name and location is part of the public profile. I hope that will be changed.

I don't think that's the case. I set up my profile yesterday and I didn't change any defaults and I don't think you're seeing my email, or are you? ??? I just checked my privacy settings and display email was off, but I'm leaving display profile publicly turned on. I know we all have a bit of a learning curve here. So far it seems like a great improvement.

In the profile settings there is a little lock pictured next to name and zip code, I am hoping this means they are not allowed to be visible but I turned off the show my profile for now just in case until I have a look around. I see some users I can see their bio (the paragraph they filled out about themselves) but no other personal info else so hopefully that is what it means to make your profile public. Will take some time to get used to this new platform!

I just checked for everyone one. M1, BassetHoundAnn, Babblingbrook & MN Chickadee all of your profiles are indeed private.

thanks for checking EagleMom, I changed it last night. Kinda scary though that the default setting is public. and the "who's online" thing is just creepy, too.

Hope you can help with some of these issues I'm sure you are reading about.

Ugh, thanks for the warning, M1. Just changed mine. If you haven't done so yet, you might also want to look at your notification preferences. I unchecked more than a dozen of those yesterday.

Thanks tigersmom, I just did that too. there needs to be an instruction manual for all users about all of these settings. Maybe we should start a new thread about it when we have it all figured out.

I only see it in my own profile. If you look at other member profiles, you can't see their information, so no nothing to worry about.

That's a good idea, M1! Pretty discouraging that alz.org thinks it makes our lives better to be inundated by junk mails and texts. Last thing we need, IMHO. Let's keep collecting things that need fixing here.

The default setting is not public, but private. I think we just need to take time to get used to the site and if we have concerns we can just ask the moderator.

Eaglemom, can you check my profile also? I had called the Helpline to make it private, but I don't know if it is. I don't mind my story being known, but not my email address.

Thanks M1. I would like my profile story to be accessible. I am indifferent about my zip code. I want my email to be private. Hopefully, I have adjusted the settings appropriately. If you have the ability to see my email address, please let me know.

HI LT--no email. The only relevant informaiton on your profile is your bio and your joining date. Badges and cakes--pure crap IMHO. Facebook generation designed this, not those of us dealing with AD and dementia.
