California- Teacher looking into FMLA, stat leave, using my sick time
Hi everyone,
I'm in California- work at Long Beach Unified School District. On the off-chance someone here has been through this- I'm trying to navigate being able to have time off work to help my mom.
I was told I have 5 days/school year to help a family member. Well, that's been used. I have plenty of sick time, but I am supposed to use that just for me. My secretary and HRS have said I can use my sick time if I need a mental health day, but if it becomes a pattern, I may need to use Stat leave (which is half pay). If I take FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) time, it is unpaid, but the State of California may kick in to cover part of my lost wages.
Thanks.

Oh I'm not looking to be her full-time caretaker. I just need to know what options are available for me in terms of taking time now and then, doctor's appointments, etc. or a little more time when I move her. I guess I wanted to know if anyone else had been through this same thing. My job is secure. I am tempted to use my own sick time as long as I can... wondering if a doctor (my psychiatrist for example) could verify that I need "mental health days" to take care of these needs. Just trying to figure out how to do it...

Does your employer offer intermittent FMLA?

The paid sick leave law provides that an employer shall provide paid sick days for the following purposes:
