Hi all, I’ve been researching options for a place for my mother with Alzheimer’s to live. I found a good MC option 2 hours away, but it is very expensive! Thankfully , our family can afford it. I live in a small rural community that has no AL or MC. I just had the idea of buying a house near me and looking into home health care, but I think this will be crazy expensive! Plus I think it will be a huge amount of work to manage another house as well as managing care. I just want her close, and right now 2 hours is the closest I can find. Has anyone had experience with 24/7 home health care? Thoughts? Thank you!!

I am glad that you have the financial resources. I think staffing 24/7 care in a rural area could be a problem-you can check with the agencies, but how would you handle no-shows, etc? And would you want to screen workers for covid vaccine status or flu vaccine status? Those would be my concerns. the other thing you wouldnt have would be opportunities for socialization that MC offers, ifvthat matters. But I have no personal experience really, when i tried to hire home help (also in a rural area) i could not find workers who were vaccinated. Hope something works out for you. A four hour round trip would difficult.....

Thank you for your input! Yes, I was thinking about the socialization aspect, for sure. I am tremendously grateful my family has resources to even consider these options. Do you (or anyone) know of any charities/non-profits we may donate to for those who are not as fortunate as my family? Thank you!
