I am home from surgery
We made it home before sunset with 15 minutes to spare. Spinal anesthesia, nerve block in recovery room. Tramadol before surgery at 7:15 am, oxy in recovery at 11:15. Another tramadol here at 5:15. Can stagger with hydro, will take one at about 8:45-9:15 to help me sleep. I walked about 150 feet with a walker at the hospital.
@M1 - you are right. It’s painful. The more pillows under the foot, the more painful it is. So I had two( one is memory foam) for a while. Currently down to one, but the knee is straight with that since I’m laying down. I don't have to have it elevated all the time. Hospital sent me home with multiple ice packs, plus I had 3 here already.
Our son spent about 3 hours with his Grandma on her hospital room. She is confused about where she is, thinks she is in a new apartment. They moved her from IMC to a general room, and that probably didn’t help the confusion. My step-dad was brought to visit for a few minutes by the AL director, so out of context for mom.

Glad you are home. Be prepared for a rough couple of days, it's likely to get worse before it gets better. Keep us posted as you can. I suspect your mom will need rehab, i hope your son will be able to stay. Im so sorry for the bad timing.

@M1. Unfortunately he had required in person meetings at his work the next two days. However the nurse for Mom’s new room picked up on the behavioral symptoms right away and I told my son to ask if a sitter was needed. I believe hospital induced delirium is going to be our companion for a while’.

I hope your pain gets more manageable soon. Keep the rest up even when the pain is better. So much, all the time. I’m very sorry.

Mom should be back at the assisted living center by now, a staff member was going to go get her at 3PM. The staff didn’t want my dad out in the cold, plus it’s hard physically for him to get into the hospital. It’s a good thing she’s going home, her hospital induced delirium was horrible. I talked to her for 20 minutes this morning and I had to remind her she was in a hospital 20 times. She thought she was either in their AL apartment or a new apartment and that Dad hadn’t moved with her.

@ButterflyWings @jfkoc Things haven’t been too bad today. I did the three times a day exercises. Some were easier than others, and I got most of them done at the 10 repetitions suggested as the high limit. I spaced my pain meds out a little this afternoon - Tramadol still within the maximum time range. Hydro at the midpoint of the Tramodal( so half of the maximum dose per day). I am unsure if I am managing to keep my knee straight enough (I mean back of knee flat as possible) to suit them when I have it stretched out in front of me( which is always unless I’m sitting to eat or bathroom or walking with the walker). I can stand still without touching the walker and have unintentionally taken a step or two that way).
I read the surgeons notes on the patient portal. Other than feeling concerned about Mom, I am glad I didn’t wait any longer. Lots of severe arthritis, lots of bone spurs, no remaining cartilage, etc, etc.
Tomorrow I take off the wrap and the gauze, shower ( it’s got Dermabond on it), and go to therapy. That will be my first test

Hope you're soon more comfortable and getting plenty of rest. Healing wishes!

I’m so glad things are going well. With all those pain meds you ought to come up with something good for our ‘comic relief ’ discussion!

@forbarbara Here is your comic relief:
Tuesday night I called the hospital to check on my mom. It took a while to get routed from the operator to the proper nurses’ station to the actual nurse for her room. Then the nurse told me my mom wasn’t in that room. I had called the wrong hospital! I called the one I had been in for my surgery rather than the one she was in. The two hospitals in town are only 8 blocks apart.

omg I laughed out loud!!

That's the Tramodal talking.
How are things going?

@harshedbuzz I’m actually feeling pretty good today. Hoping this continues. A little pain( well controlled yesterday and today by the medications), a swollen and stiff knee, and a walker that keeps both hands occupied. Sleeping on my back ( my least favorite position). I’m doing my PT assigned exercises, but taking it easy otherwise.
Mom is doing better - she knows where she is and can carry on a conversation. She’s in pain ( that’s to be expected), and the AL nurse contacted her PCP to get better pain meds.

LOL!

That sounds like something I would do without pain meds!
