Hi Ms. Iris.. My name is Leslie, & this is my first day with the community.
My husband was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2018, per a brain MRI. However, his diagnosed changed to early-onset Alzheimer's per a PET scan.
I'm his primary & sole caregiver. I'm hopeful I will learn what I'm up against & to get/provide support within this community.

My first diagnosis was Dementia. A few months later, I changed gerontologists and the diagnosis was changed on my online 'chart' to Alzheimer's...I was confused because no additional tests had been done that would prompt a change of diagnosis. The term Alzheimer's sounds more serious/ominous than Dementia, although I don't like either label. It may be that I'm just sensitive and don't want either diagnosis...I'm wondering if those two terms are interchangeable...and does it really matter. On a positive note, I'm blessed to have loving support from my adult daughter and my older sister (and only sibling). J

Welcome Judith. Dementia is the overall term for loss of memory and other cognitive functions. Alzheimer's is one type of dementia, the most common type. You can ask questions here, but I think it can help you to be able to ask your daughter or your sister when you have questions.
How are you doing? Did the doctor offer any memory medications?
