Can you explain to me Deja Vu?

I'm also a little confused. I understand the meaning of Deja vu, bit not exactly what your LO is experiencing.

“Déjà vu is a false sense of familiarity,” Dr. Khoury says. “Your brain creates a sensation as if you have lived a certain situation before, but you’re unable to retrieve it from your memory and cannot identify the actual situation.”

“Stress and exhaustion can contribute to déjà vu,” Dr. Khoury says. “But it can also be a sign of seizure disorders, migraines and disorders affecting the memory.” People who have frontotemporal dementia, for example, often experience persistent déjà vu and tend to try to rationalize the illusion.

My DW (mixed dementia - alzheimers and vacular) has horrible deja vu. When we watch a tv show she is convinced she has already seen it. This even includes football games. The only thing I have learned is to not argue with her or correct her. I try to say, "I haven't seen this show before, will you watch it with me?" It does get very tedious because it occurs every night.

My DH used to have more frequent deja Vu experiences but they are less now. When he has them, I just go along with it and don't disagree.

Not sure if this is Deja vi but every day multiple times a day my husband will say we’ve seen this if watching tv, or we’ve been here if visiting some places. He doesn’t seem overly bothered by it so I just say your memory is better than mine!

I finally got around to searching for this on ALZ, and somewhat glad to see it is a common symptom. My DW has it all the time. She can't inderstand why the local news is showing the same stories over and over, even constantly checks the dates on shows (we have dish and wach most shows on the DVR). We watched a movie, released in 2023 and new to Netflicks, and she insisted WE had seen it. Kept it up through the whole movie, seen this scene, remember that dress, etc. It makes it very difficult to enjoy watching anything. But I see here it is just another load we must carry as caregivers for the ones we dearly love.

When my dad was in rehab, I bought him a current newspaper and he said he already read it. I never bought him another one.

Heh. Same thing happened to me just the other night. We were watching a 2022 movie, and DW insisted she had seen it long ago, and she kept saying, "I saw this movie long ago, haven't you?" Of course, she couldn't tell me any details about the characters or what was going to happen.

That's the first time for this behavior for us.
