Hello!

When your LO is in a memory care assisted living unit, how have you allocated the expenses in your annual report?

Did you enter the whole amount in food and housing? Or did you allocate some toward Other Expenses. Some of the fee they charge is a "care level" which wouldn't exactly be food and housing?

Also, how did you report the transition from home to a facility? I don't see anyplace in the online form to give the current address or indicate when the person moved.

I deduct assisted living as a medical expense. The person's address is still at home—they're just "staying" at the other place.

Thanks. What lead you to conclude your LO is just "staying" at the other place?

Did you do this even when you've sold their home and the only address they have is the assisted living?

I would use the address that the mail goes to. Unless they ask for an actual physical location ( as in no PO Boxes).

Marp, sorry, I was thinking with a limited perspective. As a spouse, I'm still living in the house we had together. Yes, their assisted living address would be their home now.

Prior to going to assisted living,.my sister lived with me. Sounds like the same situation you are in, only we aren't married.

Did your attorney,.or someone from Social Security tell you that your husband's residence was still at home?

Social Security recently sent me a form requesting details of my mom's move to a new memory care facility. On the representative payee report that I filed last year I had noted that she had a new residence. Among the questions on this new "Request for Information" were why she was moved, when did she move, and how do I keep in contact with her if she's not living at my home. I wrote on the form that I wished to continue receiving mail for her at my address.

So you didn't answer their questions? Just told them you want to continue receiving mail?

Oh yes, I did answer all the questions. I simply wrote a note in the blank space at the end of the form saying that I wanted to continue receiving her mail at our address.
