Is there an open forum for people to speak about their experiences?

Hi there, I’m Jen and my daddy has vascular dementia after suffering a stroke last year. I would like to find a place where I can talk with people in similar situations so we can share our experiences and support each other. Does anyone know where I can find such a forum please?

Hi and welcome. I am sorry for your reason to be here but pleased you found this place.

Are you looking for a real time chat room or would a discussion board like this do? There also smaller support groups in many communities that meet in-person or virtually. I found the combination of a IRL monthly meeting and this place. Both were great for information, and support. The IRL meeting was superior for local resources like day programs, MCFs and even things like understanding barbers. This place was great because there is a greater breadth of experiences, and the door is always open.

Specific to this site, I find the I Am a Caregiver (General Topics) board more heavily trafficked than this one so you might get more attention there as all kinds of folks post there.

My husband has become very mean and delusional lately and everyone says not to argue I am very hurt and frustrated. Is there some medications anyone may know about which may calm him down and would be safe for him to take.

I’m not sure as I’m new to this too, but my mom’s neurologist recommended a few meds, one was an anti anxiety and one was a med specifically to help slow down the symptoms of dementia ( I think). Her insurance didn’t cover the second one and she was too dizzy on the anti anxiety so right now we are at a standstill.
