HEARING THINGS
I enjoy reading and lately while reading I have been hearing music that seemed to be coming from outside. (Let me say that we have central air when the house gets too cold, we shut the air off and when the house gets stuffy, we turn the floor fan on.) I thought that I was going crazy and went outside to see if I could see where the music was coming from, and I couldn't hear it. This went on for several days and eventually one day when I shut the fan off I realized the music had stopped. My wife said maybe the fan is interfering with your hearing aids. Now at least when I am reading and am I hearing music I know that I am not going crazy. Has this happened to anyone else?

I can listen to music or a podcast…or read but I am at the stage where I cannot do both anymore. I do like going to our local pool because people are happy and the music is fun and no one there knows that I have Alzheimer's except the people that work in the physical therapy area so I have a safe haven if I become confused. I was able to read Tana French:s new book and kept up with it pretty well but when I tried something more substantial like CS Lewis I became completely lost. Lost in the labyrinth that is my mind. Take good care

David, sounds like it may be the hearing aids reacting to a certain frequency the the AC is making? I really haven't a clue but is the music any good? I can't help but chuckle a bit, The last several night I've heard men talking outside my bedroom window. I look out and no one is there. Because no one was there. My brain is really doing tricks to me lately. Got a new med that may help that I am to take in the afternoons for sundowning. Hopefully that will help. Would be interesting to know if you discover anything further about the music. Do let us know. 😁

(I Am the only one that can hear it my wife says that she doesn't hear it) The music is nice it sounds like it might be either Irish or Scottish. When I read later, I will start with fan and see if I hear the music if I do I will shut off the fan and see what happens.
I took out my hearing aids the noise was still there so I shutoff the fan the noise was still there. Trying to figure out what was going on, for the last several days I started to think about everything, and this may sound silly I thought back about was going on and I realized the noise happened around the same time every day and lasted about 15 minutes. I still haven't figured where the noise is coming from.

Hi James Middleton, I have solved the mystery of the "music" It came back again around 6 p.m. All of a sudden, I heard it again when I was going to the kitchen to get something to eat and as I walked by the floor fan, I heard it. It was the way that
+ the wind was blowing through the blades that made it sound like "music", at least now I know that it is not my ALZ acting up.

Glad to see you solved the mystery! Those kinds of things can be annoying to figure out. Glad it was not your ALZ acting up. Sorry I can't say the same for the 'voices' I sometimes hear outside my bedroom window (no one is there-my dementia acting up). Cheers😁

I know what you mean I don't hear voices but I do see "white shadows " my wife calls them my "Guardian Angels "I have in the past had some horrible nightmares when I wake up screaming NO!NO!!!!. Other times it feels like the walls are closing in on me. If you have anything else you want to talk about just let me know I'm hear to listen

David, I like the idea of 'Guardian Angels' nearby. The Doc gave me some Risperdal tablets (tiny things) to take to help me with sundowning. I think it's working but really kinda soon to be sure. I've not heard the 'voices' any more outside my window in the evenings. I figure the voices are just another 'bump' in my road; and bumps are made to climb over. We all just gotta keep on going and get the most enjoyment that we can. Much of my day is taken up by reading Bible commentaries and such. I can only focus on shorter passages and three or so pages of commentaries. But it's enough to keep me busy all day. Actually, it's a wonderful way to spend any day. Cheers, James😊

JAMES, my doctor has given me 3 different medications to help not have nightmares (I wish that I could remember their names), but my wife handles my meds all I know is that they are working. Like you said all these things are just a bump in the road that we are made to climb. So far, I do not have sundowning.
My wife and my family and friends just tell me to take one day at a time. I guess that you know that is very hard to do. I spend a lot of the day reading and when not reading I spend a lot of time at the senior center I do two exercise classes a week and I also go to the gym there. I don't drive so I am glad that I have a wife who is willing to take me where I need to go. So, as you can see that I try to stay busy Which I have been told that staying busy will help to slow the progression of the disease. Hope to hear from you to keep me informed as to how you are doing. David

James, I know that you hear voices, but I am just wondering if they talk to you. My doctor asked me if I heard voices and if I did, did they talk to me. I said in my dreams that I did hear voices, but they never talked to me. I do not know why he asked me that.

David- No, the voices do not talk to me. It seemed to be the voices of two men quietly conversing outside my bedroom window. No one was there. This just happened for a few nights in a row. The voices have pretty much disappeared as of late. It may be that my night meds are working better? Just glad there is some peace and quiet. Hope all is well with you. Cheers😊

All is well no more nightmares the dreams are more weird and funny. All my meds seem to doing what they are supposed to be doing. Cheers

James, I am glad that the voices do not talk to you (my wife says that it is not good if they talk to you because they might want you to hurt someone). Why don't you go the senior center (If you are old enough) The one I go to has a lot of things to do like pool all kinds of exercise programs and excellent social workers. Keep me informed as to how things are going. Cheers😊

David, I live in a very rural section of NC. There is a senior center in our county seat, a few miles away, but I've never been there. I should drive over one day and check it out. Thanks for the 'heads up' on that.

I hope you go to the senior enter I think you will like it. They are always looking for volunteers I worked in the kitchen for several years.
I don't know if you are single or married but I'm a widower and I met my current wife (who is also a widow) at senior center.

James I was just wondering how you are doing.
I do not know if I told you, but I no longer drive per doctor's orders. I do miss driving but I can use the mobile van form the senior center, The Ride (this provided by the state) also the best ride is from my wife who is willing to take me wherever I would like to go. I thank God every day for my wife being there for me.

David, Things are going well. The drug for sundowning (risperadol) seems to be working well for me in the afternoons and the depression associated with the dementia seems to be under control with the current medications. I am still driving, but only drive local (within a 20 mile range). I can do that because I live in a very rural area where the idea of an afternoon rush hour is a farm tractor with a 4 row plow running down the highway. LOL. The big city has it's plus sides, but I really like the peace and quiet out here. I am only 2 miles from a town of about 1500 folks(the county seat) so I'm in a good spot. Hope all is well with y'all over that way. So nice of you to check up on me. You are very much appreciated. James

JAMES, i am doing o.k. All the meds I'm on seem to be helping,I am no longer having hallucinations, nightmares and having the feeling of the walls closing on on me.
I'm going on Thursday in Boston to have an Infusion for my low iron.
Take care

Just thought you would like to know have I just had an iron infusion (I have low iron) which may help me stop having rest leg syndrome. It will be 6 to 8 weeks before I know everything. I will let you know.

David, I was going to write you this afternoon and ask how that went. Hope all is well with y'all. All good here.

Jim everything is o.k. I had my iron infusion in Boston yesterday it is supposed to help me with my restless leg syndrome after 2 days so far so good There were times that my legs would literally jump at least one foot
0 -
David, I'm glad your iron infusion went well. Low iron can be a cause of low mentality. Perhaps you will notice some improvement in your cognition in a few wthat
.
I thought I had something like that a few years ago, and I treated with iron pills and a high iron diet. I have recently discovered that varicose veins can be a cause of restless legs. My legs don't jump, but they were painful and heavy and I had trouble walking. I'm treating now and I do feel better. David, check yourself for varicose veins also, they are common.
Also, you should be checked for why you have low iron. Are you having hidden blood loss? Usually this is checked by checking for fecal blood loss. Read about a high iron diet and take foods with vitamin C to increase your iron absorption. If you have a cast iron pan, cook with that.
