It sounds like your senior center was like the bar in "Cheers, where everybody knows your name". It's so nice that you met your current wife there.

GOING TO THE SENIOR CENTER

Shortly after my wife died, I went to the senior center to get a tax break. I then volunteered and worked in the kitchen for several years. I have met an awful lot of nice people, including my current wife she was a widow. I also knew her husband for 2 years before he died.
The center has so much to offer they have bingo (which I enjoy) they have a gym some have wood shops all kinds of social help all kinds of programs.
If you are shy (like I was) do not worry it will not take long to friends

Yes everyone does "know your name ". Its a fun place.
