Neurologist Recommendation?

Can anyone recommend a good geriatric neurologist who diagnoses dementia/ Alzheimer’s in the Capital District area of NY? Not sure if I’m allowed to even ask this. New today to this website and discussion forum. Mom is in AL but they are recommending MC, and I don’t know if it’s because MC is more $ and they have more room there or if it’s a legitimate recommendation. She has never been properly diagnosed by an appropriate medical professional, so I’m not quite sure what to do. I thought my first best step would be neurologist. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum. Certainly you're allowed to ask, anyone who might know can message you privately. Honestly though, what you're facing is not uncommon, and i don't know that having a specific diagnosis is going to change the fact that she needs MC. I very much suspect that is a real recommendation.

it's commonly said on these boards that by the time most families consider assisted living, that ship has long sailed and what is needed is memory care. We all tend to view our loved ones through rose colored glasses and to underestimate their impairment. So your story has a very familiar ring. She'll probably do better if she gets the right level of support, and seeing a neurologist is not going to change that. The cost is eyewatering though, you are right about that.

YYou have come to a good place for advice and support.
