Richard, I had a kind of a shock today. I got diagnosed with heart failure by my cardiologist. Up until now I have had only hypertension.

I was diagnosed as having cognitive impairment not otherwise specified several years ago, but not Alzheimer's Disease. I have been using Exelon patch and memantine for several years, and they are helping me.

I have learned quite a lot about living with a progressive debilitating illness. I like to help the newcomers. I hope you and the others continue to support each other.

(M72) diagnosed with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s 2 days ago. Was put on Memantine and Donepezil , currently at 10 mg. Each, Mem. 2X/day,- Don. 1X a.m. The medications have been phenomenal. I have clarity, focus, energy, and motivation. Before that it was a daily struggle to function. I have underlying health problems that exacerbate my situation. I have been forthright and open regarding my health. The only unknown is my rate of cognitive decline. My wife is my #1 cheerleader, but doesn’t handle this sort of thing very well. However, she is buckling down and helping tremendously. We have appointments with our estate attorney and financial advisor next month. Both practice in the Sun City AZ. Area, so we’re confident they’ll be positive and sympathetic partners in this process. We are just now starting our process of support and discovery. Any suggestions to expand our levels of knowledge are appreciated. Thanks

Welcome Ilkahl. I'm sorry you have received that diagnosis. It's good that the medications have made an improvement in such a short time. Please read about the Mediterranean or the MIND diet to enhance your brain health. Continue to exercise, to socialize and to stay engaged cognitively. I hope you will continue to post and feel free to start your own threads with questions or concerns.

Thanks. I have made diet, lifestyle and meds changes already. The meds are the biggest difference, much better. I have 3 more appointments scheduled in the next 4 months with the neurologist . We'll go from there.
