Sometimes you gotta laugh...
Aha!
Been trying to figure out why I get so caught up in HDW's conversations in the late afternoons. As I explained to my stepson, dad's disease is not bad memory (from which he always suffered) but it's brain processing.
We are huge sports fans. Today is NFL Sunday. Except that today all of the teams playing at noon (Central time) are "not my favorite". So we watched something else.
Then he complained about sitting too long. So he went to the bedroom to "listen to music" (a saving grace at our house).
He lay down and kept asking me to turn on the football game. The 3pm game he wanted to watch, but it's now 2:00pm.
Dawned on me he isn't processing, so I asked if he needed to be changed. He did. So I did. As I finished up, he gets up to go to the living room to "watch his game" which starts at 3 pm, and it is now 2:05pm.
"Game isn't on yet."
"Well, I can sit and wait."
"OK, but you said you were uncomfortable."
"I was but I can watch something else until the game starts."
We start to head to the living room.
He asks me to turn his game on.
...
And then it dawns on me.
The one comedy skit that drove me crazy ever since I was a little kid.
I cringe when I hear it,
I want to scream through it,
I get so gosh darned frustrated:
Who's on First, Abbott and Costello. I literally LOLed when it hit me.
😅😆😆😁

The progression of this disease is most apparent in how he follows sports. And sadly, not for the better.
I use the time travel trick for when our Care Companion comes. It works perfectly.0 -
how do use adjusting the time when caregiver comes.

I can dvr comedy movies pure silliness and no plot lines he can watch many times because of not remembering the last time he wstched, he likes football too dvr them and tell him right before I start it

I have YouTube TV. All games are accessible after they have been played. So when care companion comes, we put on an older game because they have fewer commercials. Sometimes the replay games are available immediately after the live game ends.

Oh, northernlady, I can relate to the “Who’s on First” analogy! I got a good chuckle from your post. That’s exactly how many of our “conversations” go these days. I have often thought if I wrote them down, it might be comical if it wasn’t so sad and frustrating. As you say, sometimes you gotta laugh.
