Dizziness

Good morning all. We are in this journey now for about 10 years. My DW is in stage 4.5-5 or so. Two days ago she got very dizzy at the physical therapist and while it’s gotten better she continues to complain of being dizzy. At the PT a paramedic assessed her for the emergent problems of dizziness. Before we head to Urgent Care I was wondering if anyone has had this experience with their LO? She is healthy and no history of heart problems.
Thanks

Could it be vertigo? There is medication that can be prescribed for dizziness.

There are many causes of dizziness and she needs a thorough evaluation.

My DW has vascular dementia from long term (>60 years) type I diabetes. Her initial (12 years ago) presenting complaint of dementia was dizziness. She underwent physical therapy and it improved but as the years went on she developed the more typical symptoms of vascular dementia.

Yes, I’m aware that there are many causes of dizziness. Just curious before seeing the doc if anyone has had a diagnosis of dementia related dizziness.

I have not heard of dementia related dizziness, but I experience vertigo myself. I hope they can find out what’s happening with her.

A couple months ago my DW experienced periods of dizziness and she said she felt very hot. During these periods her pulse was high, blood pressure high and glucose level high ( she is also diabetic). I took her to the ER after 8 of these episodes in one day and the ER Doc said he would have to guess that she was suffering from anxiety. The doc said he thought the pulse and blood pressure were reaction to the episode and not the cause. he simply dismissed the glucose. After that one day she experienced only a few episodes and now they have stopped. I wish I could give you something more definitive.

Can you check her blood pressure when she is dizzy? Could be low blood pressure, especially if she's on donepezil or arecept?

my DH often had times when randomly he would feel dizzy, sweat and feel weird. They would pass in about 10 minutes. I often wondered if he was having a tia. My guess, he was early stage 5. He still gets it periodically late stage 5 with foot in stage 6. I did portal his Dr initially and was told if it didn’t last long and he seemed ok after not to worry but if I wanted to bring him in I could….obviously they didn’t seemed concerned.

my DH had 3 episodes of sweating, dizziness, nausea. His blood pressure spiked very high all three times. He went to the ER and they ran every test and found nothing. Later someone posted on a forum I was on that when the dementia or Alzheimer’s affects the brain stem that it affects their blood sugar, blood pressure and many other autonomous brain activity. That made the most sense to me. There is so much they don’t know.
