California Fires

I pray to God that none of our dear Members are affected by these horrific fires. We have enough on our plates without having to contend with this.

What a way to start 2025

I can't imagine being in our caregiver roles when something like this disaster strikes. I've been praying for all those affected but until now I hadn't thought of the many who are dealing with situations like ours. We're in Washington state but just hearing the news upsets my DH. Sometimes he thinks it is our community that's affected.

We don't watch the news much, for the same reason. DW doesn't grasp that the devastation in LA, Gaza, etc. isn't coming to get us. Actually, since we are all human beings, it does affect us all. Some of our members are in LA, and I am praying for them.

This thread is what I love about this community. Here the posts focus on others as much as our own issues. Compassion for those on the journey in the many different ways we are experiencing is heartwarming.

I'm a retired fire captain from The Los Angeles County Fire Department. I've been on lots of those types of fires; however, none as large as what's been happening the past few days.

I am certain there are many people affected by the wildfires who are caregivers for others in need. It is a reminder to be grateful for what we have today and to pray for those who carry a far bigger burden than we.

At least two of the people who have died in the fires were disabled people who couldn't evacuate. Another was the father of a disabled adult who refused to let his son die alone. Ghastly.

I've been listening to information from government officials. If you have friends or family in the affected areas and they don't know how to get resources, here are some official websites. There is also information on how to donate.

Here are a few government websites (which I checked) with information about resources.

    Recovery.lacounty.gov

    LAcity.gov

Disasterassistance.gov. This is a federal site.

Fire.lacounty.gov. This is about Ready Set Go, Your Personal Wildfire Action Plan.

Enla.org. Emergency Network Los Angeles is a non-profit for resources.
