My DH had a physical spell early this morning. He wanted up to go to bathroom about 5 a.m. this morning. I made sure he made it to the toilet and let him have some privacy. He was in there a little longer than usual, so asked if he needed some help. Found him weak and very pale and clammy. I helped get him back to bed and called and had a Hospice nurse come to check him. All his vitals were good. Took about 45 minutes to get color back and is now still asleep. Wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this and if so what maybe caused these symptoms???

Kat 63, I will mention that with my DW privacy was a thing of the past. Too many things that are potential disasters to leave a LO alone. My DW was using nail polish as a face makeup was the final straw. Toilet issues also are easier when you are there to provide guidance and assistance. Rick

my DH had 3 episodes of very high blood pressure with sweating, nausea and dizziness. After the first, his primary care doctor said if happened again to have him taken to ER as he could be having a stroke. I did. They kept him overnight and ran every test in the book and found nothing. Someone on this forum posted that if the part of the brain that controls blood pressure etc is affected by dementia it could cause episodes like that and or seizures.

SDianeL, we have had trouble with his blood pressure fluctuating. A couple of weeks ago it was very high and the Hospice nurse wanted to add a third medication, but then it went back down so we held off and lately it’s been low. Unfortunately I believe the best explanation is his dementia has affected the part of his brain that regulates blood pressure. Thanks for your reply.

One of our emeritus members almost passed out while on the toilet. There was some discussion about this being not uncommon.

The vagal response often happens when a person strains while trying to have a bowel movement. It might help to add more fiber to his diet, either by the foods he eats or a fiber supplement. Of course, the danger there is diarrhea, so add the fiber gradually until you hit a happy medium.
