Idk what I’m looking for

This time last year my 72 year old mom moved into AL. 4 months later we moved her into MC in a closer facility. She was doing ‘ok’ overall. (Not sure stage but she is able to walk, can shower herself with encouragement but lots of resistance, remembers us but with confusion. wears pads). Diagnosed with Alzheimers.

she’s rarely ever happy. Misses my dad who died 10 years ago. Misses us. All alone. Etc. it’s so hard to see.

I rarely take her out because bringing her back is very confusing for her. But I had to take her for Moh’s surgery on her face last week.

I feel like out of nowhere she has progressed or regressed I’m not sure. She is saying the same things she said this time last year - I want to go home. I miss home. It’s okay I’ll accept moving to assisted living. I’ll give it a try (while we are in her room in MC).

I don’t even know what I’m expecting I guess I’m just surprised. She’s withdrawn and doesn’t talk that much anymore. She doesn’t watch tv even. She’s more confused than ever. And she keeps getting these cuts on her face and the director tells me she picks at her scabs all the time and that’s why they keep happening.

so sorry. Progression can take steep declines and sometimes plateau or continue to decline. There is no way to know. The behaviors you describe are typical and usually caused by anxiety. Is she on medication for anxiety? If not, it may be time. Read the book “The 36 Hour Day” if you haven’t already. Here’s a link to the 7 stages of dementia. thanks for your response. I think she’s stage 6/7. It just sucks. She is on lexapro for anxiety. And Remeron.
