How to stop DH from getting up at night to pee

DH had a partial amputation of his foot due to gangrene (caused by peripheral artery disease). He is not yet supposed to walk on his foot and I have someone with him 24/7 at sub-acute rehab. He will be going back to MC next week. How do I prevent him from getting up in the middle of the night to pee, forgetting about the amputation? He has already fallen once and fractured his hand….

I would talk to MC about this. They have some experience with the problem with other patients.

I would talk to the MC facility. They may need to put diapers on him and give him medication for sleep. Or he will need 24/7 care which MC facilities don’t usually provide.

Do nursing homes provide 24/7 care?

Nursing homes do provide 24/7 care but that doesn't include having someone in his room to redirect him should he wake up. They might be able to alarm his bed, but overnight staffing levels could mean they don't get to him in time.
My aunt broke a hip and was supposed to call for assistance when she needed to get up. Of course, she had dementia and couldn't remember she'd broken her hip and wrist. The SNF insisted family provide a sitter 24/7 in order to remain there. Since aunt had no money or assets left by this point, her daughter basically camped out there until she died. Her son's widow and one sister (who was guardian to another sister with dementia) took a couple shifts each week so cousin could grab a shower or nap. It was hell.
