Morning. Carl. I'm with your dad. That's the kind of stock I would invest in, too. I know nothing about the other kind.

Had a pretty good nights sleep. Stormy woke me once or twice scratching. I had meant to ask .like why the shots did not last as long but we got to talking and I forgot.

Watching morning news shows, then will Watch the Thunder win tonight, I hope.

Everyone have a good day. Weather is pretty now but storms and rain. Predicted tonight

"Those plates are amazing." @harshedbuzz These are my everyday china that I don't get to use because every time I set the table with them DH asks "who's coming over, why are you getting those dishes out?". LOL

Those put my very plain ones to shame. Dinner on the porch @ 6:30 cst? That will give us enough time to get home for the moon. Well, enough time for those of you who will not be on a severe weather watch.

Possible black tie cocktail party? Put me down for that too.

Having never had a Lava cake I decided to google. Wow, wonderful. Wow too hard to make, Could someone bring one of those to the dinner tonight?

The clematis might do well here in OKC. Does it bloom all summer? Wish "rodos" and "hydros" lked it here. They are so beautiful.

Dave Ramsey is interesting. I love the market so will leave the bulls to you, Carl and Lorita. I almost touched a cow once. That was enough.

Mint…your summer food shopping is always so interesting. Maybe there is someplace to get fresh things here.

added: JL…love the color of the wall behind the plate pic.

Judith, I had to laugh when you said you "almost" touched a cow once. You should have been around so Jasper could give you sugar. Nice to be kissed by a 2200 lb.bull. If we were out in the pasture in the Jeep he would stick his head in the window and give sugar. I Miss him.

Two questions: How do you get rid of little black ants? They bite! Vinegar and water spray? Lemon juice and water spray? Or vinegar and Apple juice in a dish? I have curious cats do have to be careful what I use. Zevo spray works for a little while and isn't harmful but I can't spray everywhere.

Second question: do you all wash new clothes before you wear them? I don't because I like the feel of new things but...

Thunder game tonight and the moon. Never made a molton lava cake but sounds good.

I use Terro. Ants take it home and feed it to the queen and it kills the whole colony. Just killing the ants in the house doesn't get to the root of the problem.

I wash the filler out of new clothes before I wear them.

Thanks, Carl. I think I have some Terro things. Got it to put in the generator when ants got in there. Safe for cats?

    Filler?

I think I would try to use the Terro where cats couldn't get to it. I don't know if they would lick it or not, but it wouldn't be good for them if they did. Maybe put it in a wire cage that ants could enter but cats could not.

New clothes have a stiffener, kind of like starch, that makes them look nice on the rack or in the package and makes the clothing appear to be made of heavier fabric than it actually is. I once wore a new pair of jeans to school without washing them, and they were so stiff that they chafed me raw. It was a hot September day and my perspiration made the dye run, and I had a blue "tattoo" in the chafed area for about a year thereafter. Since then, I wash everything before I wear it. I have recently heard (maybe from Judith?) that the filler contains fungicides and such so the clothes don't mold on the boat from the country of origin, so that's another reason to wash them.

Used clothing should be washed in hot water as soon as you get home with it. "Flea" markets are called that for a reason.

Carl, ugh, re: " flea" markets! I had never washed new clothes. But since the pandemic shutdowns, I have been buying my clothes at Aldi's. Yes, I am an Aldi's fashionista 🙂.

JeriLynn, the plates are so pretty. I too have trouble using my nice things everyday.

Beth is having trouble posting. I hope it's just a momentary computer glitch.

Good morning - I can say that because it's still morning in my neck of the woods (at least for 8 more min). My phone tells me it's 80 degrees outside - a perfect temperature.

I got everything done yesterday that I needed to get done so today is strictly a play day for me.

JeriLynn - I love that photo of Oliver Kitty. Cats are funny. Peggy's cat Jezebel liked to play in running water. She would sit in the bathroom sink with just a drizzle of water washing over her. She just loved that.

Also - I love the plates! Our everyday china is white - and boring. I like to liven things up by using my grandmother's depression glass for plating cold things (like deviled eggs or cheese). The depression glass brings some color to the table.

HB - I hear you about capsule wardrobes - it's the only way to travel. If I have one superpower, it's packing. I have gone to Europe for three weeks using only a carry-on bag - and it wasn't overstuffed. When my s.o. and I took Peggy to Italy in 2019, we only did carry-on. Peggy was like your mom and often did "aspirational packing" (I'm going to steal that from you). But, she let me pack for her and I got her into carry-on only.

jfkoc - I'm not sure I've ever touched a cow. I rode a horse once. Love the sunglasses.

Carl and Lorita - I also wash new clothing as soon as I get it home. I'm pretty allergic to flea markets and if someone somehow managed to convince me to go to one, clothing is the last thing I'd buy there.

Sounds like party planning! I'll attempt that lava cake. I'm not so big on strawberries, so strawberry daiquiris aren't quite my cup of tea. How about if I bring a pitcher of pomegranate margaritas? They have pomegranate juice + raspberries. They barely taste like alcohol at all - and kind of the epitome of a girly drink. I'm good with the black tie! I'll just come as my romantic gothic self - black lace and black velvet, it'll pass muster.

I’m also in for pomegranate anything.

I will bring Bombay Sapphire (just in case)

GG…I am like you. One carry one and I am good for a month. Now that did not include anything for the impromptu black tie party. I can ride a horse…lol

Carl…I like doing laundry. How come I did not know about the washing of new clothes.

Iris…get out your good stuff and enjoy it. I use my silver and Wedgewood all the time but have been known to eat leftovers out of the plastic container from the frig. with a plastic spoon from the deli.

I am going to check some other threads for David.

Good afternoon. I'm waiting on a last load of wash to finish so I can pack.

Lorita— The Terro traps are very effective and would be great outdoors, but I wouldn't have them in the house because of the pets. They're effective because the ants take the poison back to the nest which eventually kills it off. Even if you secure the traps away from the cats, if they eat the ants (for sport or in the food dishes) it could harm them. Mom's cat snacked on insects. YMMV.

I absolutely wash anything washable first. Fabric is sprayed with all manner of chemicals. Not just the sizing they gives it that new clothes feel, but also insecticide and mildewcide. Since many things are made off-shore or from imported fabrics, there's no way to know what has been used on them to protect them during shipping.

Carl— Canadian whiskey? That was dad's liquor of choice. Preferably Crown Royal. I'm more of a bourbon and soda person. I like my alcohol to taste like alcohol. I can bring some craft beers. I have quite the orphanage in the fridge at the moment— things I wasn't wild about, things gifted to me to try, and some old favorites.

Gothic G.— I tend to be a carry-on traveler, too. I did a summer semester in the UK with a large duffle and a tote in lieu of a handbag. DH makes me look like I overpack. He's been known to do business trips with a blazer, one pair of pants, a handful of socks and briefs, his toothbrush and a couple shirts. I once met him in Strasbourg after he'd done business in Scotland, London and Nice for a week's vacation. He'd ripped the center back (butt) seam out of the trousers somewhere in the UK. The wife of a friend gave him a needle and thread to make the repair until I got there with another pair. When he met me at the airport the seam was sewn up with large "X" stitches much like a turkey would be to hold the staffing in.

    _____________________________________________________________________________________________

I've got most of mom's emergency DME stowed in the car. I packed her bag. She has coordinating pieces from Talbots early spring 2025 centered around "heritage green and cream". She agreed to just wear her (cool girl) Rothys and stick to her silver Yurman necklace/bracelet and her fancy sapphire ring. The goal is to impress the sister more than anything.

I even laid out her travel outfit. She kept saying she wanted to wear her new dark gray pants but we couldn't find them. Her closet is very organized, and I found 2 pair of gray pants that were the wrong ones. Turns out her new gray pants are navy blue. AMD is robbing her of her ability to see colors which is so sad.

She kept bringing up a dress "just in case we go to dinner". She'll be hanging with her 89-year-old-sister and her 90-year-old boyfriend; they're lively but I doubt they're mixing it up after dark. She has room if she wants to slip one in.

    Wish me luck this week.

Let me just say this, y'all just crack me up. Flowers, packing, cake, laundry, cows we are diverse for sure.

I've been know to overpack, but I've gotten so much better.

I don't mind doing the laundry, putting it in the dryer or even folding it. I don't like putting it up. I don't like putting up groceries either. It's not that I don't have the time or space, I just don't like doing it. I've long ago learned once its folded I put it away immediately. DH love going to the grocery store with me. I don't always have the time for him to tag along, but usually I do. When we get him he opens cabinet doors and starts shoving stuff in randomly. I have to be behind him and take it out to put it where it belongs. He thinks he's helping and I will let him 'help' as much as he wants.

I had a garden bed put redone last week. Now I've been replanting, etc. Of course I wait until its a thousand degrees out!!! It was a huge bed with mulch, and I was tired of the puppy eating the mulch or mushrooms growing. Its now a rock bed, and I really like it. I'm thinking I'll do nothing else until fall.

I have an Android phone and use OneDrive for my pictures. I used to like it, but they've changed things and I don't care for it anymore. What does everyone use? And no, and Apple product is out of the question!

Weather heading our way, I'm going to go put the umbrella's down, etc. Let's be safe everyone.

Well, I'll bring grape Gatorade and Pepsi. That's my speed.

Judith. Looks like you will be getting storms during the game. More rain for later in the week.

Bryon got his mower fixed so he will mow when it's dry enough.

I use an.HP laptop and Amazon Fire tablets. Haven't really used the laptop for some time. Easier to just pick up and use the tablet.

Stormy and I took down the trash and.got the mail for last two days, then filled the water tank in the lot. It is really humid- 86% and 87 degrees. Looking pretty dark in the north.

Thanks for the information about the ants. I think I might try.vinegar and juice. I have never washed new clothes, just didn't think about them putting something on them to repel moldI just like the feel.of wearing something new. But. I might begin washing them.

You ladies don't know what you have missed by not pulling a new calf and seeing him take his first breath, then struggling to.finally stand up and nurse. I cried the first time we pulled one.

About time for tip-off so will close for today. Sleep well. Good night. Beth, hope you can get it fixed so you can post.

Carl - Okay, I'm so embarrassed. I had to look up Black Velvet because I didn't know what it is. Now I know.

HB and Carl - you guys are way tougher than me. I'm pretty sure I'd never be able to drink Black Velvet or bourbon and soda. Waaaaaay too strong. I need something with an umbrella in it. 😄

HB - I'll be thinking good thoughts for you this week.

eaglemom - I'm afraid I'm no help for you in the device department. I've used Apple products for years. Eons ago I had a tiny little Sony Vaio laptop that I absolutely loved (smaller than a MacBook Air) but it ran the Microsoft operating system and I got so sick of getting inscrutable warning/error messages. Finally I gave up and got a Mac. I wasn't happy about it at the time. I also have an iPhone and an iPad mini. I'm not super wild about Apple as a company, but Microsoft is more evil (imo) so I'm not going back to them. I've contemplated using devices that run Linux, but I'm kind of afraid. I have some tech skills, and my s.o. has mad skills, but Linux feels a little too advanced for me.

Lorita - I bet pulling a calf like that for the first time would have the same effect on me that it did on you.

All of you with weather - be careful out there.

Got home at 9 from the first night of Vacation Bible School. A room of 4 year olds zipping through 20 minute sessions including The Lesson, games, painting crafts, supper, outdoor activities, music and singing.

I’m exhausted and too old for this 😂 They had fun. Nobody cried, got hurt or peed their pants so I guess a successful first evening. Thanking God for the Room Leader who had a 40 year teaching career. Give me sick folks any day. Teachers are the bomb!

    Now you're talkin'

@eaglemom Funny how Android vs Apple has become the new Ford Vs Chevy.

I swing both ways, as it were. Apple for phone, watch and iPad all synced. The latter two were gifts my niece picked for me as lavish gifts from mom. Mom asks niece "what would auntie like?" and niece goes all Millennial at the Apple Store. I use a PC running Edge.

Are you looking to replace your phone, tablet or laptop? I have a couple friends with Google phones who seem to enjoy them. One is a very heavy user of the photography features.

My mom has an older Chromebook. I can't say I am dazzled by it, but it would be fine for most people. One thing I don't like is that they cease to be updated/supported after a certain date. Most are supported 5-8 years. One thing I do like is that the security suite is baked in rather than needing it as an add-on service.

Jerilynn— Sounds like a successful evening for VBS. It must be a long day all around for those kids with a full day at camp/daycare for the kiddos and VBS in the evening, too. I bet everybody slept well last night.

Morning, bright and sunny for two days, then back to rain.

We had a tragedy here last night. I went out to feed the birds and found two of the little barn swallows on the floor of the porch. They had fallen out of the nest during the night or early morning. I had noticed they would be right on the edge while waiting to be Fed. Picked them up and they were covered with ants so had been down for a while. I buried the little things thinking bow sad mom is. Finished feeding the birds, looked up at the nest and there is still one in the nest. I'm wondering if there is always three. Really hate that. I imagine that often happens.

I put Vectra on the cats this morning so they are hiding out now. Not sure they had fleas but.. I found the three vials of Vectra with their names on them. Not sure if I put it on the last year. I can't remember when Lilly had her kittens. I know it was during the pandemic.

GPs are so much better, no scratching since early yesterday. We all slept well. They wanted out about 6 and are laying on the south side of the house watching the pastures.

Eagle, looks like you're going to get rain and storms later today or tonight. News just now said McAlester had quite a lot of damage from their tornado a couple of days ago. Also one around Tshlequah. So many this spring and so much rain.

Beth, hope you can get back on our thread today. This is really weird. Back later.

looks like I forgot to say good morning

sorry about the barn swallows Lorita.

very cloudy dark day here in North Ohio. We've had some rain but not a lot so far. Yesterday was nice and a lot of my flower seeds had popped through the ground. Now, if I can slugs be OK. I did bait on all of them. None of my tomato seeds sprouted yet though. They were little deeper though so maybe in days I’ll have some I hope so. I’m try to go out between the raindrops in case new sprouted and I need to get some slug it
