Just need to talk to my friends (207)

Judith, I didn't get on the stepstool, stood on the floor and used a mirror. Hopefully, Beth will be able to post on 207 now.

Walmart prices are going up. The Boost, 15 cans, has gone up about $3.00 from the last time I ordered about a month ago. Guess that's to be expected.
I moved the sweet potato vine onto a tall wire planter out in the yard, about four feet tall. Guess I'll see what happens now.
Warm and sunny today but rain beginning late tomorrow for two or three days. I think I mentioned we've had about two feet of rain since April first, about half of our average annual rainfall.
I.hope Beth can post so we can all get together again.

Good afternoon all. Why I thought scheduling my dental cleaning @ 9:30 was a good idea, I just don't know. It's not that we're not up or anything, it just has me hurry to get DH settled for our Zoom before I leave. Good report from the dentist, yea! My only issue is I have to take 1200mg of antibiotic prior to going. That sets me up for the worlds worst heartburn, ugh. But I'd rather have heartburn than an infection set in one of my knee joints.
Its drizzling rain here and grey. I'm not one to take a nap, but this is nap weather! I've got things to do, I just don't want to do them!
Let's be safe everyone.

Eagle, I always like to have early appointments, especially in the summer. but does make me hurry. Sometimes I wonder how I ever got up, had breakfast. Got dressed and drove half an hour to work and get there by 8 a.m. Could not do that now. Glad your dental appointment is over.
I just saw the weather and thought about you because it showed some rain In your area. All but a couple of areas in the western part of our State is out of any kind of drought, first time since 2019. Should be ba!ing hay but it's too wet. Ranchers haven't been able to even spray or fertilize.

Well, we have 2 days of sunshine on tap and DH has mowed while he had the chance between showers. He's still a little puny and I've convinced him to just rest for today.
I've cleaned a little. Making some turnip greens, bought some potato salad (cause I'm lazy today) and putting together some pan fried pork chops with dried figs. I haven't quite figured out the sauce yet but butter and some broth and maybe some jelly will do the trick. I have to be back at church for Bible School by 5:30 and thought I should get DH some supper before I go.
I have more sad news. I guess I should preface by saying I may have been wrong about Boogie and her goat mothering skills. We lost Peanut today. He just stopped eating, DH gave him some electrolytes and he drank that but it didn't help. Boogie may be smarter than I gave her credit for since her babies died in spite of all we did. Nature is just hard sometimes. I won't go to the pasture today.
The geese are enjoying their corn out at the front pond. I'm watching them from my office window. And the barn swallow babies are chirping away as Mama darts in and out with food.
My turnip greens should be about done so I'm going back to the kitchen to work on those chops.
Y'all have a good day. 💜

JeriLynn, so sorry about Peanut. I know how hard it is to lose one of our animals. I've sat with calves and cows as as they were dying and nothing could be done. Heart wrenching. You and your husband did all you could. Will Boogie grieve for Peanut or were you all doing all the care? If we have animals or pets we know there will be times when we lose them but it hurts anyway. I have had big, strong men tell me stories about their losses and it hurts them must like it does us.
I'm missing our little barn swallows, just can't imagine what happened to the last one or why the others fell out of the nest. Darwin has had several nests on his porch and says all of the babies have fledged. I wss looking forward to seeing ours fly away.
Just showered and put on daytime clothes.I found a blue and white striped seersucker suit I had forgotten about. Guess I should just shop my closet instead of QVC. Speaking of - time fo r two hours of Denim & Company. Back later.

Good morning. It’s been raining and/or foggy since we got here but should be lovely tomorrow.
Lorita and Jerilyn— I am sorry for the loss of the dear little creatures who brought such pleasure. This is sad news however wise Mother Nature allegedly is.
I’m glad to have Beth back on board.
Eagle— I hate early appointments with a passion. I’m an early riser, but don’t like getting myself out in the world much before 11 am.
Do you have some special risk around your knees? Neither mom’s ortho or mine believe in prophylaxis for TKR; thy’d only recommend it if the patient had an active infection that would be treated anyway. Even so the hygienist always warns me to take the med or else I might die. The dentist is OK with a letter stating I don’t need to premeditate. Mom does it now because of her TAVR which is riskier. She’s already on daily Keflex after 2 bouts of septicemia last winter but she still gets amoxicillin.
The weather here has been ghastly. Chilly and rainy. We have a lovely view so is actually kind of nice to have the touristy places to ourselves and a cozy place to watch the storm. We had blueberry muffins and tea at a cut coffee shop and then toured the local art collective’s gallery. There’s no nice way to say this but, most of the painting weren’t great. The individual studios for the big gun artists weren’t open today. We were looking for an anniversary present to each other. DH said he might do one for me instead. Tomorrow should be a a perfect day and I’ll finally get my lobster roll outdoors on the deck. It’s a chowder kind of night tonight.

I'm sorry about the loss of little Peanut and the baby barn swallow.
JeriLynn, how do you cook your turnip greens? Do you add turnips? I do know how to cook greens with ham hocks or neck bones, but I have not done so in many years, I buy canned greens.

We're hot and bright here, 80 degrees and sunny. Forecast is for humidity and popup showers starting Thursday. The sun will set in about 60 minutes, and the Strawberry Moon will rise at the same time.

Hi Everyone! Thanks, Lorita! Back on the porch.
I'm so sorry about the losses of the swallows and little Peanut.
We also have a swallow nest; I think they are on brood #2. I cannot see them but hear them and see the parents; the nest is up too high. Regarding birds…we have a feeder and seeds do fall out. We had adult and baby ducklings here 3 times today to eat. One mama had 8 ducklings! So fun to watch.
We have a town summer celebration and there will be fireworks tonight. I hope we can see them from our yard, but not sure as there are trees and houses between us and the site where they are launching them.
HB, enjoy your trip! Sorry you got some poor weather. May tomorrow be a better day. And Happy Anniversary!
Hugs to all and a special thanks to Lorita for re-starting the thread.

Hi Beth, so glad to have you back and have all of us together again. All of that posting problem was so weird. I bet that mama duck and babies were so much fun to watch.. I don't think either pair of geese who were around our ponds had little ones this year. At least I haven't seen them.
HB. Where are you? I must have missed that post. Have fun and Happy Anniversary.
Carl, it has been hot and humid here today, Heat index was 95. Going to try to see the Strawberry Moon. See you all tomorrow. Good night.

What a view HB
Yea Beth!

JeriLynn & Lorita — I'm so sorry about the loss of Peanut and the baby barn swallows. 🙁
Beth - I'm glad you're back!
Just a quick post - more later on tomorrow once I'm settled in. We're on the road, well right now we're at a motel in Redding, CA on our way to SF. But what an adventure it was tonight.
We were just south of Yreka and there was a lightening storm above Mt. Shasta. No rain, just lightening. There was probably thunder, but if there was, I didn't hear it - road noise + music. There were these huge clouds by the volcano - kind of like the ones that JeriLynn posted. So much lightening. And right next to it a clear patch of sky - we were able to see the Strawberry Moon come up. It was spectacular when it was huge and low in the sky. We were wondering if there were any lightening strikes, and as soon as the words were out of my mouth, I looked to the left and the hillside was on fire. Emergency vehicles were on their way, thankfully. I'm hoping they get the fires under control sooner rather than later.

Welcome back, Beth! Computer glitches are no fun!
I was too tired to look for the Strawberry moon tonight, perhaps tomorrow night.
HB, you are so close to the sea! Enjoy your anniversary!

Best I could do with my phone as I left church last evening. Strawberry Moon over Belvidere, TN. It really was magnificent shining over the corn field.
Iris, I also used canned turnip greens (Glory brand) and do not add turnips. I start with a dollop of butter and bacon grease to sauté onions and bacon, add the greens, red pepper, a dash of garlic, rice vinegar, worcestershire sauce and hot sauce then Simmer. Most often I serve with cornbread but yesterday I didn't really have time to make that.
HB, that view is amazing. Happy Anniversary to you and DH. I hope you have a wonderful trip.
Beth, it's good to see you. Do you have any recommendations for a Climbing Rose for my arbor? Should I plant now or is it too late? The spot is full sun.
GG, are you on the I-5? It's a beautiful drive. When we lived in Yakima we could see Mt. Ranier on a clear day. Being from the South, those mountains were just amazing to me. Our "mountains" are what Washington State folks call hills, lol.
Ron, what's happening with you? Have you made the move yet?
Tonight is Family Night to close out Vacation Bible School. It's been really fun. The Mom's tell me the children have excitedly recounted their evenings on the drive home. My group is the 4-year-olds; they are adorable to watch as they sing and use sign language to illustrate the songs.
Well, it's 4:30 am so I best get up from here and start the day. Y'all have a good one and be safe.

Good morning, group!
That's a good thing you've done, JeriLynn. One of my happy childhood memories is VBS, 70+ years ago. Those children will remember this for the rest of their lives.
We had clear skies for the moon watch here also. The sun set like melted gold, and soon the moon rose above the trees. It was a lovely, bright night.

good morning
we have clear skies too, but I’m not catching the moon, I think I’m getting up too late.
hope you have a peaceful trip, looks relaxing

The moon was beautiful last night. The TV meteorologist said the reason it is called the strawberry moon is because it is the full moon at the time when we're getting strawberries (yes, I know southerners strawberry harvests are already done). He said it has nothing to do with color of the moon, and the pinkish-yellow I noted was due to haze from the wildfire smoke coming from Canada.
JeriLynn, choosing the right cultivar (variety) is key in the south. Here is an article naming some varieties that work well in the south. Some are climbers; some are not.
GG, are you on your way to talk with the friends you are concerned about regarding one having dementia symptoms? I didn't realize you were a lawyer until recently. Tell us about your law career, if you are so inclined. My career was in nursing: ICU/CCU, ER, Infection Control, Quality Assurance, Utilization Review, helping set up electronic medical records for a large group of cardiologists and Disability and Medical Case Management for an insurance company.
More later, I need to post this as I have a fear of losing it. 🤷♀️

JeriLynn, Jackson and Perkins website says it's never too late to plant bare root roses. They have a lot of info on their website including a "late season bare root rose planting guide." As far as I know, they are a reliable provider of roses. Now regarding Bible School: congratulations on a successful teaching experience. One year I was teaching junior high kids in VBS. The boys acted up so much, that one of the pastors had to come and sit in the room every night the rest of the session of VBS! 🤣
I am enjoying the photos! HB, where you are looks fabulously beautiful. I liked seeing the moon from Alabama, JeriLynn.
Ron and Carl, thinking of you often and praying for peace and adjustment to new circumstance. You both are heroes in my book, in how you cared so lovingly for your wives. It's not an easy job; I don't have a spouse with Alzheimer's but my mom had it and I helped her. She's been gone for almost 8 years now.
Eagle, glad your dental check was good.
Lorita, did you get your TV fixed? We have one of our two tvs that is constantly a problem. For example, many days it will go to "Air Play" and I have to mess around to figure out how to get it to the tv channel. Well, yesterday it defaulted itself to the Google TV home screen. We had already planned to get a new tv as we're tired of dealing with this. I suspect it is the tv more than the Direct TV service as it's an older smart tv. The new smart tv we have works well. We also can stream Direct TV on the internet which I like. Are you excited about the Thunder? Wow, are they ever strong. But Tyrese Haliburton is determined to put them away. lol It should be an interesting series; it has been so far.
We had the Summerfest fireworks show last night and were able to watch from our bedroom window. The fireworks were not right over the Strawberry Moon; that would have been even better.
We make strawberry margaritas. I dump a can of Cayman Jack margarita and a bunch of frozen strawberries into a blender container. Let it freeze slightly, not solid, and blend. Makes two. Don't forget to salt the rim of your glass!
Have a good day, everyone!

Good morning all. Last nights moon was a dusty haze covered moon. I'm hoping tonight we'll be able to see it. Gentle rain falling right now, its lovely. You can almost hear the ground sucking up the moisture. I could sit on the patio and listen all day. I won't, but I could!
I forget who ask, the reason I take the pre-med is my knees. My left has been replaced once. However, my right has been replaced 3 x's. The third time a custom extra long rod was used in my thigh. Out of an abidance of caution I take the antibiotic.
HB it is our anniversary also. We were young, 19 turning 20! High school sweet hearts who went to different colleges and got married before our junior yr. We promised our parents we'd both finish college in the next two years and there would be no babies until well after we graduated. Yes, we both graduated, didn't have any babies.
Time to get ready for our Zoom. DH did remember our anniversary, and for that I'm very thankful. Let's be safe everyone.

Morning, groceries have been delivered, wiped down and put away. Rain forecast this afternoon, moving up from Eagle down in Texas. Guess that takes care of mowing this afternoon.
I kept looking out to see the moon last night but could never see it. Finally went out on the porch and it was way up in the sky. It came up way farther south than I had tbought.
I ordered a couple more sweet potatoes. I cook them in the microwave, split them open, sprinkle with a little sugar and eat then with butter. I still had two big ones and they have slips several inches long.. Seems that I remember that is what you plant. I think I'll put them in the light and when the slips green up I can plant them with the ones I have in the planter.
JeriLynn, I remember when we would get bareroot roses we always soaked them in a buçket of water for a few hours before planting. Have also heard adding eggshells to the holes when planting helps.
No, Beth, I think I really have the tv messed up. Doubt I will call Direct today, just not in the mood to deal with it. The tv in the LR is okay so I don't have to deal with it now.
So good to have everyone back together again. Carl and Ron, hope both is o you are all right this morning. Better get to the mailbox to mail my insurance check for the vehicles. Back later.

Good morning, just back from a hematology oncologist visit at the VA. Harmone shot has the psa under control and I was told that as long as I tolerate them, I will be taking them for the rest of my life.
I had a bad night last night, I kept waking up choking. I really don't know if the problem is copd or achalasia of the esophagus. I'm leaning toward the esophagus, but I'm no Dr. After only around 2 hours sleep I really need a nap, but realtor agent is suppose to come over.
Tired Ron signing off!
2 -
Sorry, Ron. It's tough when you can't sleep. Good to hear the hormone shots are helping though.
Beth and Lorita, thank you for thinking of me. I'm adjusting, slowly. I ate lunch at the senior center yesterday, and this morning took DS to the barber shop to get our ears lowered and his beard trimmed. On the way home the radio played an old Hall & Oates song called "She's Gone" so I turned it off.

Hi, called Vizio to see about warranty on LR tv. He went through all the troubleshooting stuff to no avail. Need to take picture of full screen and send it and they will decide about refund or replacement. Now to figure out how to do that. Have taken and sent pictures but a !ong time ago.
One good thing during all of this stuff like getting the tv back to direct tv I thought that might work with the other tv. Tried it and it worked. Something about Input. So, will try to figure out the picture thing,no big hurry since the picture is good and the other tv is okay now. Hate having to do things remotely, makes me nervous.
Rain isn't here yet but it is really sticky.
1 -
Lorita…
Is your screen just shy (or muted)?
Step Three: Hit that 'Mute' button on your remote and hold it down for a good 5 seconds. You might've accidentally muted your screen while jamming to your favorite tunes on a streaming app. Unmuting could bring everything back to visual harmony.
Check if the menu is playing hide and seek.
Step Four: Grab your remote and press the Menu button. If a menu appears, your TV is fine – phew! But it seems like the device connected to your TV might be the problem.or
I'm sorry you're having problems and will try my best to help.
By far the most common cause of this problem is a glitch in the cable box processing.
Please follow the steps below:
1) Shut the TV off, and then disconnect the cable box AND the TV from power (unplug their power cords).
2) If using an HDMI cable, disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cable on both ends when the cable box is unplugged from power (make sure it's secure on both ends).
3) After about 10-20 seconds, please plug the cable box AND the TV back into power and give the box about 5 minutes to reboot.
4) Then turn the TV on and attempt to watch a program.
These are all things you can do

JeriLynn, the Strawberry moon shot is beautiful!
Some of the dangerpus chaos here in SoCal was three miles from my home. But fortunately the Marines came to the rescue. I am supposed to visit San Diego tomorrow, it's in the opposite direction, away from LA. Freeway overpasses are threatened now.

Thanks Judith, The bedroom t v seems okay. I can watch the living room tv without much of a problem because the dark circles are on the far right and don't interfer too much but do want to have the warranty honored. You sound like a real techy and it's all greek to me.
The Vizio guy went through all that might have been causing problems and nothing worked. Years ago we had a new tv and i t developed wide colored streaks from top to bottom. That was within three months so WM replaced it. I have to send a picture of the screen to them so they van see what it is doing. Right now phone is charging. Rain isn't far away so Bryon can't mow. Anyway I am enjoying having grass.
Iris, what did the Marines really do? The news mentioned something about LA having driverless cars for cabs and other things. Is that right? Don't think I would ride in one
0 -
I am not a techy but I can google. with the best of them…lol
I guess I missed about the dark circles. on the TV. I only remembered there were closed captions and no picture.

I tried to call Joan (Telinde) a while ago and her phone number has been changed or disconnect ed. The last time I spoke with her she was going to have more surgery and she sounded weak. She had 24 hour care in her home so doubt she would have gone to a NH. Worries me. Not sure her number was home phone or cell. If it was a cell she would have it with her. I hope we haven't lost out friend.
1 -
Joan passed away on April 14. I found her obituary by googling Obituary for Joan Telinde in Colorado. She passed away a home so guess she didn't have the surgery.
I Think this is the first person who has passed away who posted regularly on our thread. She used to be so active, going for walks and going to livestock shows to see her granddaughters compete. Sad.
