Still c!oudy and muggy but no rain. . The outside stall door is open again so got on my boots and went out to fix it. It is so very muddy around the barn I decided better not get stuck or fall flat on my face.I had a sorting stick with me and it was going down almost a foot in the mud.I have seen little calves struggling to get through the mud when they come out.Better for them to come and go through the back. At least they have four feet to help. I'm afraid someone might fall put of the door which is about two feet off the ground.

This morning I noticed two wisterias in the front yard. We planted one and it ran up in the tree. Now it's coming up at the base and another new one is coming up about a foot away, probably from the roots.

I was.on a train once. I was three weeks old and mother took me to Waco to see her brother. Rode on a greyhound once when I was seven going to McAlester with my patents when Cheryl (Sarah's mother) was born. Back later.

My youngest brother got stuck in the mud once when he was small, and my father had to pull him out of it. His shoes remained in the holes, which instantly filled with water, and I guess they are there still.

I really enjoyed lunch yesterday. I hadn't seen my friend KP for a couple of years, except at the visitation, and it was nice to catch up. Chipotle-flavored chicken tacos, black beans and rice was a nice meal too. KP wants to make this a monthly event, which is great.

My friends M&K baked cookies and are coming by this afternoon to give me some.

I had peanut butter sandwich and banana for breakfast and bean soup for lunch today. My lunch companion was a whitetail deer who was browsing the native plants (weeds) in my backyard "flower bed."

    My laundry needs attention. TTYL

Carl, I love peanut butter and banana sandwiches - had one yesterday.

I was looking for a particular pair of pants in the closet a while ago and found a few things that needed to be laundered, not from wearing but from when they put in the new floor that got dust on the shoulders. Never did find the pants, probably in a container somewhere. So, I'm doing laundry, too. Usually only have one or two loads a week but do remember I used to have one or two every day.

Glad you had a nice lunch with your friend and cookies this afternoon to boot. Can't beat that.

Carl, I got stuck in the pond when we were in a drought with only a few big puddles of water left. Went in after a calf that was stuck.Charles pulled both of us out. So, there's a pair of my pants still in the mud in the pond that didn't make it out. A friend of ours also got stuck in his pond that summer. Bad drought that summer.

Tried to watch Wagon Train but for some reason can't get Inspiration Channel.

Lorita, I was in San Diego yesterday. The photos of The Kiss and Bob Hope were taken at Seaport Village. The weather was cool because the sky was overcast all day, typical for June gloom in SoCal, everything was gray.

We visited Hotel Del Coronado and were given a tour to explain the ghost stories by ladies in vintage Victorian costume.

    1000001026.jpg 1000001030.jpg 1000001029.jpg

This is an early device before fire trucks. It's purpose was to raise the water pressure to fight fires.

HB, it's so nice to know that Bob Hope and Charles Barkley were kind to their fans in public.

I love train travel. My best vacation was an overnight Amtrak trip from NYC to New Orleans. My mom and I shared a sleeper car with a toilet and sink. I slept on the top bunk. Listening to clickety- clack, clickety-clack made me sleep soundly. I loved it.

Some people in my travel club are huge Uber users, even when we were in foreign countries. Your idea of using Amtrak and Uber for future travel sounds like a workable idea.

Some people had lobster roll yesterday. I thought the lobster would be rolled up, but it was mixed with mayonnaise and placed on a slice of bread. I had blackened salmon. It was so spicy/peppery that I could not eat all of it at once, so I brought it home. It was delicious when eaten slowly accompanied by sips of water.

My two aunts, after they were the last remaining of eleven siblings, kept up animosity that I learned the cause of only after they both had passed. The animosity stemmed from when they were young, long before I was born. I'm glad your mom and her sister were able to overcome their own animosity.

The traffic between San Diego and Los Angeles was heavy. This brings to mind the plan to allow for flying cars in time for the Olympics in 2028. I can't imagine what traffic in the sky will look like with flying cars three years from now.

    LadyZetta, what is aroma yoga?

Flying cars scare me. It's hard enough to watch for inattentive drivers in two dimensions. The train and taxi approach to travel in cities makes a lot of sense.

I think aroma yoga is the aftermath of hot yoga, but I could be wrong 😥

Lorita. The Insperational Channel, INSP, was down a lot today, they had a note that appeared often, apologizing for some problems they were having. If you get MeTv you can watch Wagon Train on there.

Iris. It's called aromatherapy yoga. We all sit, there was 4 of us, we rubbed calming smells all over our hands. Then we laid in relaxing yoga positions, while listing to the gong and the singing bowls. We help our hand close to our faces, to relax to the calming smells. I love the sound from the singing bowls, they are round white bowls, she has 3 of them. I think she just rubbers her fingers around the edges and makes differe t noises. Next time I want to watch and see how the sounds are made.

I love all the pictures you all have been posting.

    Take care all, hugs Zetta

Iris, that hotel is something. So it's supposed to be haunted? That train trip from NYC to New Orleans was a fast one, wasn't it?

Zetta, same here about INSP. I missed the first Wagon Train but it came on for the second hour but the picture quality wasn't good.

Can you do the downward dog? I think that's what it's called. Have you gotten over your soreness from the yoga? Using muscles you're not used to using can really cause soreness. Charles and I were in a bowling league,- VA Hospital vs.VARO and after the first week.my.thighs were so sore I could hardly walk. So glad you're enjoying yoga. I believe one of my SILs went to yoga classes out in Texas and she enjoyed it, too. Years ago they had Tai Chi classes on tv and I did them and was never as sore as then. But, enjoyed it.

Almost time for the Thunder game so will say good night. Sleep tight, don't let the BBB

Zetta, I like the idea if adding aromatherapy to exercise. I think I'll try some oils for my own exercise sessions.

I should have noted that the flying cars for the 2028 Olympics will actually be flying taxis. In other words, they will be specially outfitted helicopters (from what I have seen) transporting people from here to there. Will these flying taxis be just for the athletes and their entourage, or will we peasants be able to get around town quicker too?

I went to Home Depot this evening to pick up a product that I had putchased there for years. I was told that they no longer will carry it, but that there was some product remaining in Paramount CA. Paramount is the epicenter of the rioting. It is not under the curfew orders. I wasn't about to drive into the midst of the chaos and conflagration. So I am having it delivered. SoCal is like two different states. Being in San Diego yesterday was so peaceful. Even though traffic was heavy, it still flowed and was not obstructed by rioters.

JeriLynn - I'm glad you posted that photo of that view from Joan's deck. Man, I'd love to look at that all day!

Iris - I'm loving all of your photos. You know, I'm probably the only one … but I've never seen Top Gun. And the Hotel Del Coronado! I went to a conference there years ago - a bunch of us privacy advocates. It was a good time. Those Victorian ladies look like they'd fit in well at any goth club I'd go to.

Zetta - I'm glad you're doing yoga. I've never done aroma yoga, but I bet I'd like it. I really like singing bowls.

HB - your trip looks amazing. Your husband paints?

Iris and Lorita - I love train travel, and I especially love over night trains. We did a lot of train travel when we lived in Munich. No need for a car when the train goes everywhere you'd want to go.

Carl - I have only one thing to say about flying cars — The Jetsons!! 🙂 Or maybe two things, the other being Blade Runner.

As for me, we're not home yet — spending the night in Roseburg, OR so that we can hit the Creswell Bakery in Creswell, OR. So much yummm in that store. We'll make it home by tomorrow afternoon.

Sooooo, I managed to have the conversation I needed to have with D about V's health/dementia. It was hard, but it went well. He's not in denial anymore. He really didn't want to acknowledge the problem, which I totally understand. We went over all the options we could think of, and I think D will end up moving V to Palm Springs (which V will not be super wild about), but D's condo is only one floor. There are no stairs at his house which is a big plus. When I quizzed D about his "Plan B" he told me he doesn't have one. He also has none of his legal ducks in order. 😱 I told him I'd compile a list of things for him to do, but that he should get a CELA in Palm Springs, not SF so that it's convenient for him.

I went to the optometrist today so that I could hear all about the cataract in my left eye (which has been bugging me). So I'll probably get that taken care of sometime in the next few months. Yay. (that was a sarcastic 'yay') Otherwise, my eyes are healthy.

Beautiful drive over the mountain pass between CA-Or today. Great views of Mt. Shasta.

    Morning,

I'm loving the pictures and glad everyone is having a good time. I would love to be driving the Oregon Coast!

Zetta, I attended a training when I was still doing hands-on hospital patient care. The Leader used Singing Bowls and led a session on "Centering". The purpose was to help find a calm in the midst of the chaos that is often present on a nursing unit. All the noises, stress, rushing and sometimes feeling like you just cannot get to everyone and everything. I found it to be a very effective exercise.

Stormy here today. The music festival Bonnaroo, held annually in Manchester, TN has been cancelled after 1 day. Rain has made the campgrounds a mucky mess. We have a granddaughter there. I know she is disappointed. We are expecting high wind, lightening and heavy rain. DH got all the pastures cut yesterday so we'll just work inside today. Lord knows, there's plenty to do.

My painter has finished his task. The back hallway, laundry room and powder room and all the baseboards and trims are freshly painted. Now to hang all the "stuff" back on the walls. I did have a table/cabinet in that hallway, but it is now relegated to the garage, so I'll have to rethink arrangement of the wall decor. And find at least a very narrow console table for that entry? DH piles stuff on every flat surface, so maybe not. I can't decide.

I slept in this morning. The good Lord blessed me so with those children during Bible School. In turn, the children have blessed me with a chest cold, lol. Nothing like being exposed to 70 little snotty noses.

OK, time to head to the front porch to see the barn swallows. I do believe a second set of eggs are in one of the nests……….

Have a wonderful day and be safe wherever you are…

Helicopters at the Olympics makes sense. Remember the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Olympics in London, when the Queen and Daniel Craig parachuted into the stadium from a helicopter to the tune of the James Bond theme? Of course it was stunt doubles in a tuxedo and a pink dress, but it was great theater.

Flying cars remind me of Star Wars, when the storm troopers were chasing the rebels on flying motorcycles and running into trees. And two days ago, when I had to change lanes to avoid being sideswiped by an inattentive driver. At least he wasn't approaching me from above or below!

    Good morning.

If it's the weekend, it's raining on the east coast. Ugh. Tomorrow should be a bit nicer. Fingers crossed. I need to get out and deadhead some plants. The deer got all my daylilies while I was gone, so no blooms for me this year.

Lorita— LOL, downward facing dog. Funny you ask, my DH thinks that's the funniest phrase ever. He always asks after it if I've done yoga. I am currently restricted from bearing weight on my wrist so no DFD for me.

Mom's pulmo is very into tai chi for his patients and has "prescribed" it for mom several times. It's a terrific practice, especially for fall prevention. They offer it at her club house and the local senior center, but that would require an Uber so she makes excuses.

Iris— Is it accurate to refer to the goings on in LA as riots? Friends on the ground there described it as a peaceful demonstration as of yesterday.

My town fire department has an antique horse drawn pumper they haul out for fireman parades. In 2009, DS and a couple fellow scouts pulled that thing the entire length of the parade on a hot July morning. They were treated to a ride back to town on one of the big new trucks which he described as a hoot. DH and I were gobsmacked— as a little kid with ASD sirens of any kind where a real challenge.

A proper lobster roll is served on a top-split hotdog roll that's been buttered/grilled on the sides. We had cold ones made with just a bit of mayo to hold it together. The hots ones made with drawn better are pretty awesome, too.

Gothic G— I'm glad the discussion with D went as well as it could have. Will the place in Palm Springs be large enough for 2 people living there fulltime or will this mean moving?

DH used to paint and took lessons with a professional. He was pretty decent although he gave away most of his better pieces. My favorite was a study of cutlery in a drawer that he never finished. It ended up in the garage because he didn't want it in the house. The only one in the house is a painting of some rock cliffs out west that's hung in the hall next to a door that's nearly always open and covering it up. I should really move it.

Good luck with the cataract. Mine aren't "there" yet although night driving is starting to be impacted for me.

Lady Z— I'd forgotten about the singing bowls. It is a distinctive sound and quite lovely. At the studio where I used to go, some of the teachers also used brass ones.

Carl— I hear you on the distracted driving. The worst offenders here seem to be the moms in the massive SUVs. It seems like the more $$$ the vehicle, the worse the driving. Of course, driving around MA was next level— the stereotype is spot on. The roads in the small town where we stayed were not designed for cars.

Jerilynn- The new and improved hall sounds nice. But I hear you on the tendency to cover horizontal surfaces. I'm the main offender at my house. I always admire those mudroom makeovers with the cheery cubbies organized within an inch of their lives. Not my reality.

Ron— How is the move coming along?

    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________

DS is working tomorrow, so we'll do Father's Day dinner today. I'll invite mom as she's been chattering about Father's Day for weeks— just a reminder to include her I guess. Tomorrow is my actual anniversary; I'm hoping my favorite bar is open for mashed potato pizza and a glass of wine to celebrate. It's not the kind of place that welcomes kids, so it should work but I'll call just to check.

My landscaper stopped by with an estimate for clearing a swath along the HOA's fence that's about 1/2 of what I expected. He'll get to that next week.

I hope all have a pleasant day.

Good morning. Our internet was out most of yesterday. Its amazing how many times I wanted to look something up or check on something on line. The heat has arrived along with the heat index above 105. I so don't enjoy opening the door and it feeling like I'm walking into an oven. But I'm so thankful I have a house and air conditioning.

I'm going to go back and read what I missed on the thread.

    Let's be safe everyone.

I'm still in Louisiana! I finally received my appraisal back and after contacting a realtor, found out that it really wasn't needed. Whoever the buyers lender is, will want their own appraiser, wish I would have known before spending 300 dollars. Perfessional photographer will be out next week for pictures and realtor will put it on the market shortly after. I wish that this was over, its wearing me out. I will probably go ahead and move after a few needed VA appointments; pulmonologist, gastroscopy and cardiologist. If my home has not sold after the appointments, I'll probably go ahead and move and drive back fir closing. I want to get there where I can look at cabins and be able to get everything in place for septic tank, foundation, etc.

There are 99 freedom rocks in Iowa - one in each county. They were painted by Bubba Sorensen to honor veterans, promote Iowa tourism and to help provide for his family. Here's one. On the front it has Iowa's motto, "Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain."

When I arose at 9 am this morning, my product was waiting in front of my door. I can see why people are enamored of home delivery. I still like visiting stores, but I could get used to this. I'm on my way to Big 5 to pick up a massager.

HB, when people are throwing concrete bricks at cops, cop cars and cop horses, when cars are being set on fire, when commuters going home are being surrounded, when the freeways are shut down, when stores are being looted and when I am afraid to drive a few miles to a Home Depot, yes, I call this a riot.

Itis, I am totally hooked on delivery service. Never thought it would be out here, about 15 miles from town, but it is and people are taking advantage of it. When Darwin was in WM earlier this week he said there were very few customers but many store emp!oyeres filling delivery orders. I am hooked. Also told Darwin if he needs something and doesn't want to go to town or doesn't feel like going, to tell me what he needs and I could order it, have it delivered and take it to him. In fact I think I could have it delivered to his house. I have done that for Sarah.

The rain has stopped for now.but still cloudy and very wet.

I was looking for a spray to get rid of wrinkles in clothes —thought it was under the bathroom sink, so ended up throwing away lots of stuff that had been under there since Charles was here.Didn't find what I was looking for though. Probably in the pantry.

Iris, you buy the greens already cut up and wash them with salt or baking soda by soaking them two to three times. I usually use turkey to cook mine. I boil the meat until it starts to steam, and after washing, I add the turnips and wait for them to cook. It usually takes between 1 and 1.5 hours. The way I can tell is by the smell.

Lorita…I thought you were only about 10 miles from Checotah.

I watched a few minutes of the parade in DC. Actually it is pretty boring after about 10 minutes. Trooping the color is more fun to watch. Looks like not many people there but over 50k in NYC and the weather is bad there too.

Depends on the way I go. Less as the crow flies. I didn't watch any of the parade, watched the protests or gatherings. Everything was quiet. Guess I better put the car in the carport since we may have hail tonight. Had 1.5" of rain today.

    Good night, everyone. Sleep well.

JeriLynn - Oregon was quite beautiful today. Sunny, green, pleasant temperatures - can't ask for much more than that.

I've actually heard of Bonnaroo. Eons ago, pre-facebook, I was on a social network called tribe.net. There were all of sub-tribes within "tribe.net" that you could join - Burning Man, Politics, Privacy and Civil Liberties, The Midnight Buffet, to name a few. It was mostly based in the SF Bay Area, but there were also a lot of people there from South America and Australia. This guy who moderated the Politics tribe went to Bonnaroo every year and so he'd tell us all about it. Its sounds like its a lot of fun.

Mint - I'm with you about the clam chowder! That sounds so good right about now.

Carl - I always forget about the flying cars in Star Wars. I saw a couple of the Star Wars movies, but I'm more in the Star Trek camp. Star Wars does not have tribbles.

HB - D's condo has two bedrooms. There will need to be MUCH downsizing, but they can both live comfortably there. V's house in SF is an old Victorian with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a huge dining room, kitchen, breakfast nook, and what V calls a "parlor". And the whole house is filled to the brim with stuff. The 24 steep steps are the stuff of nightmares.

Beth - I've never heard of Freedom Rocks. Did he do all of them in 2013 or did he do them over time?

I read that there were over 5 million protesting today. I saw a guesstimate that the parade had about 250,000, but I couldn't verify that number. I'm kind of out of touch because I was driving for most of yesterday and today.

All of you with weather, be careful out there.

We got home today right around 4:30pm. Pretty drive from start to finish.

Laundry waits — but it will wait until tomorrow! 😄
