HB, love the rock you showed! I made a Key lime pie Saturday - so good and so easy. I bought a graham crust and mixed the following, then baked it at 350 for 10 minutes. I used regular limes.

    Key Lime Filling

    • 28 oz sweetened condensed milk
    • 1/2 cup light sour cream
    • 3/4 cup key lime juice
    • zest from 2 regular limes or 4 key limes

Girls have gone to the shade after I explained why the gates to the barn were closed. You know I have never had key lime pie but it sounds good.

Reading here is always educational. Had to look up sous vide fillet and jacket potatoes and aren't all hash browns made from shreaded potatoes? What it the world is a mashed potato pizza? Something not quite right about that.

Now re Key Lime pie…you can order Nellie and Joe Key West lime juice. It is the real thing.

Judith, they actually had key limes at the grocery store. They are quite small. I thought maybe dealing with the larger limes would be easier. ???

Judith— For me sous vide has been life-changing. I can season steaks or chops and cooked to the internal temp I want and then reverse sear in a cast iron pan or over charcoal. Perfect every time.

I've seen diced potatoes passed off as hash browns in some diners. I would normally think of that as home fries.

Mashed potato pizza, aka "Masher", is a whole wheat flatbread with a layer of Gruyere topped by mashed baked potatoes with some thinly sliced red onion and baked until the cheese melts. It's lovely, especially with a glass of red wine. It's weirdly craveable.

My local store carries that lime juice although sometimes they have bags of key limes, too.

Off to fold some laundry and hit the store.

Iris, you asked about the Freedom Rocks. Created by artist Ray “Bubba” Sorensen, The Freedom Rock was designed to honor veterans and provide a unique piece of art to each of Iowa’s 99 counties. They are large boulders, painted in various ways. None are alike. Here you can see what some of the other Freedom Rocks look like. https://www.traveliowa.com/the-freedom-rock-tour/ The original Freedom Rock® in Adair County is repainted each May in time for Memorial Day. The other Freedom Rocks will not change.

Speaking of pie, I just put a cherry pie in the oven. Friends at church have one cherry tree and it produced lots of cherries. I was able to get 14 cups! 5 for this pie, 4 in the freezer and 5 to my next door neighbor.

Beth, are the cherries Bing or pie cherries? We used to have a Bing cherry tree and they were so good. Like you, we shared with our neighbor. The tree is gone now. My grandma loved cherries and cherry pies. She got a sapling from a neighbor that grew into a tree with lots of cherries. Before that she would buy cases of canned cherries for pies. Do you serve your cherry pie with ice cream? Probably a silly question.

I have never had hash browns using diced potatoes but you can buy them frozen.

Those Freedom Rocks are amazing. Are they in one area or scattered?

Next thing-- are you all familiar with chocolate gravy? We used to have it pretty often, sometimes for breakfast or maybe supper. Served over hot biscuits. I mixed mine with butter, broke up a biscuit and poured it over the pieces . I haven't made it in years. There used to be a little cafe we would go to sometimes that had it on the menu. Only place I ever saw it on the menu.

It's 86 degrees with heat index of 97. Fed and let the GPs in and their hair felt very warm.

I love potatoes fixed any way but not sure about that Masher. I have a friend pkg. of frozen, seasoned potato wedges on the freezer. They're really good but the ones from WM deli are better. Now I'm hungry for potatoes, and I like instant ones, Idahoan and baked in microwave sweet potatoes with butter.

Chocolate gravy?? Chocolate gravy?? I was going to write a normal post, but then I saw chocolate gravy and my mind turned off. 😄 I've never heard of this on biscuits — I'm sure I'd love it!

Beth, those Freedom Rocks are truly amazing! What a wonderful tribute to your counties' Veterans.

HB, I also live in the Long Beach area. Here it has been mostly quiet, except for demonstrations at City Hall. The difference is twofold, both demographic and economic. The population of Los Angeles is 40% foreign born. Of course, not all of them are illegal aliens but a good many are. Thus the risk of deportation is very personal to many residents. In addition, the economic situation in LA has been tenuous, since they have a $1 billion deficit in their annual budget. The two major industries, entertainment and hospitality, are declining. LA residents are already on financial banana peels. The Long Beach and South Bay areas are more stabilized economically.

I live in a residential area, away from downtown, so it has been quiet. But I still do not want to drive to Paramount or go out of my area. Most of LA County is in bad shape financially.

I am just reading that AI is taking over entry-level college jobs. It's not only the working class who are struggling financially.

Okay, now I can post again. The chocolate is out of my brain now.

Iris - I remember those caterpillars from when I lived in southern California. Monarch butterflies like to spend the winter in Santa Cruz. Natural Bridges was one of my favorite beaches when I lived there.

Also, Peggy's best friend M (part of Team Peggy) spent many years in Long Beach. He loved it there.

JeriLynn and Lorita - eggs in hash browns … I've never heard of this. So many foods here that I'm unfamiliar with.

HB - hash browns in a waffle maker. I've never had this either - but I kind of like the idea of it.

I love that rock photo. I hope you guys had a great anniversary.

Today was quiet, yet good. I got a lot done, starting with the gym.

Now, I'm sitting here reading this, listening to the Death Guild stream (Tainted Love is on right now - can't go wrong there), and chatting with folks.

Tomorrow afternoon I'm going to do my Tuesday DJ set - it's going to be The Beach Boys and Sly and the Family Stone in honor of Brian Wilson and Sly Stone - two bands I've always loved.

GG, the egg goes in leftover mashed potatoes with a little flour, then you make a thin patty and fry it. Potato patties/pancakes. Crispy, yummy. No leftover mashed potatoes here yesterday. Salmon, roasted potatoes, fried squash, carrot/apple salad, cantaloupe. I cannot get enough fruit for some reason.

Chocolate gravy. My friend from 50 years ago sent me a picture of a package of that she found in a country store and reminded me she had this for breakfast at my grandparent's house. She's coming to visit in July for our Jubilee class reunion. I haven't seen her since she moved away our sophomore year. I'm already menu planning for her visit.

    Good morning, lol.

DH has lab work at 8am today. Then, garage cleaning (again). He had a scooter (like a hover-round) he loaned to a friend that has now been returned. Where to store it? Maybe the barn at Huntland. I need a rug from the corner of the garage; It goes on the patio. I need to weed the back flower beds. Cleaned house yesterday. More rain today.

I'm having a sliding barn door made for the entry into the laundry room/pantry. That means I cannot put an entry table by the garage door or hang pictures in that spot. The hallway looks "nekkid". A decorating dilemma.

Ok, I'm rambling. Time for the news. Have a good day, TTYL.

WM has it- 7.5 oz. For almost $16. It's just cocoa, flour and sugar- equal parts, I think. Need to check my recipe. Mother used water instead of milk and it was not too thick.

    Morning……

The absolute best Key Lime pie I've ever had in my life was in a dive on the beach at Destin. Key Lime Pie, banana Daiquiri on the beach at sunset. Yup every day, it was wonderful. The pie was huge and oh so good. Makes me want a long road trip for a piece of pie!

I've not heard of Chocolate gravy but I vaguely recall eons ago, DH saying something about his grandmother making something like that. I thought he was joking. Apparently not.

Hot, hot and hotter here. But its to be expected, its summer. Our neighbor kids are in their pool almost all day. By 8:00am I can hear them playing and it continues all day until around 8:00. They must eat in the pool! They certainly have fun.

Time to get lunch. Then I'm going to make a run to the fresh produce stand. Let's be safe everyone.

Nice and pretty cool here right now. We just missed a big rainstorm but as soon as the clouds move out we will be sweltering... Heat index south of us is already 100.

Having problems with the ice maker again. I have had to mop the water off the floor a couple of times and water gets under the crisper. Turned it on last night and no ice but water again. Must be stopped up. I'll freeze some cubes in a couple of silicone containers made for that. I don't use much.ice except for iced tea. I do have a contract and they would come.out and fix it again, for $100 and will do that later. Don't want to fool with it right now. If it isn't one thing, it's another, or two.

I think it's time for a nap. I fell asleep in my chair a while ago and everyone else is sleeping.

I never heard of chocolate gravy but I have heard of red gravy, which I believe is tomato sauce for pasta.

Lorita, since you don't go to a grocery store, do you do all of your grocery shopping online?

It seems like the June gloom is over. The sky is clear blue today. Summer is coming!

No idea, Cookie. No techiness here. Several of us are so they can tell us.

Iris, there is a redeye gravy which I think is mostly grease with something added. I have never eaten it but I think my folks did occasionally. Oh,I think you add a little coffee to the grease. Someone on this thread will know.

Bright and sunny outside now. Warmed up to 87 with 99 degree heat index.
