Seroquel

Based on posts I’ve read on here, I asked my husband‘s neurologist for Seroquel to help with sleep and behavior. I’d like to know from others experiences how long it took for the medication to work? How long before a noticeable difference was noticed? The main thing that I’m hoping for is successful sleep through the night. I’ve mentioned that he’s been on Trazodone but lately that doesn’t seem to have same effect that it once had. Thank you all.

My DW has been on Serequol for about a couple months now. Dr started her on a low dose at the beginning . She is also taking Zoloft. She was getting very anxious and agitated just on Zoloft so Dr prescribed Seroquel. Started with 25 mg twice a day. Didn’t notice any improvement so went up to 50mg twice a day. Then went to 100mg twice a day and so far this seems to work, less anxiety and agitation. Still had these but way more manageable. She sleeps through the night maybe getting up once to use bathroom.

About a week or two

Seroquel and Zoloft combined was effective almost immediately for DW, now in stage 6. Sleeping through the night within a few days, reduction in hostilities and paranoia in a week or so.

My DW has been on seroquel for over a year. She started on 25 mg twice a day and over the course of the year it was gradually increased to 75 mg three times a day. She has been stable on this dose since mid March. She sleeps great.

My thought was that it makes your LO sleepy. Wouldn’t taking it at different times of the day make them sleepy all day? I not clear on how that works. Also, did it increase appetite?

My wife was sleeping 12-16 hours a day before she went on Seroquel. She is about the same now. Seroquel did increase her appetite and she gained some weight (which was beneficial).

My DW is on seroquel 50mg twice a day. I expected it might make her drowsy during the day but I have not noticed any of that. We were sleeping pretty good before seroquel. We probably sleep a little better now. In terms of managing "agitation", it is hard to tell, but it does not seem to have made things any worse.
It is strange that her current and previous doctors are willing to defer completely to me on medication and dosage for agitation. It is up to me if we want to try a different medication or different dosage. I can understand why that is the case, but it feels like a lot of responsibility to decide if we should change medications or dosages. It feels like figuring out which drug at which dosage helps with which symptom is all experimentation and I have been thrust into the role of lead scientist.

This conversation is very timely for me. DH was first given seroquel in hospital about 3 weeks ago. He slept well and was refreshed all the following day. He came home on day 4 and you would think I was giving him caffeine at 9 pm! He was up, rummaging through drawers, tore up a pillowcase and tried to wear it like a shirt. Of course, he slept all day after that. In the past 2 weeks I never know which effect it will have. He slept last night but kept waking, wanting to get up but too groggy to stand. (He had been on 25 mg and increased to 50 mg last night.) New pcp adjusted dosage yesterday but visit was very brief. I worry that doctors aren’t getting full picture.
curious to know if others have had unpredictable response to Seroquel.0 -
My mom just started on Seroquel as her Alzheimer’s progression has led to aggression, mood swings, wandering, and at times physicality. Seroquel has helped tremendously with these behaviorial issues and helps her sleep which is not only good for her but for my dad who cares for her in their home. Our goal is to try and keep her at home, Seroquel has really helped so far.2
