Carl, I had never heard of fritters but my college dining room served apple fritters and corn fritters, and I loved them!

HB, I have not heard of that task, to "tack" the neckline, since I was in school home economics class.

My cardiologist evaluated me for cardiac amyloidosis a few years ago. He didn't tell me how serious it was but of course I looked it up. Fortunately I don't have it. I sincerely hope your mom doesn't have this terrible disease!

Many years ago when I started to enter my car I noticed some children standing around. One child very softly said that his friend was beneath my car. I didn't quite hear him so I asked him to repeat. At that moment a boy of about eight crawled out from under my car. He had been looking for a ball. If I had gotten into my car and started the engine, what a tragedy!!! Now I try to remember to walk around the car before getting in in order to make sure there is nothing going on.

Good morning to those on the porch.

Beth— I hope you're having a nice visit; those meals rival the sort of repasts prepared by Jerilynn and sound great. LOL, when we went to Rockport getting a blueberry muffin was the only thing on DH's to-do list.

Mom's hand surgeon said that repetitive motion is a risk factor for carpal tunnel, he feels her anatomy (petite and significant arthritis) and sleeping with her wrists bent play a larger role in her symptoms. Hence the nighttime splints we fight about. I'm salty about those as they involved several appointments including 2 different ones for the splint fittings as her insurance will only pay for one each day.

Lorita— Fingers crossed the fridge shows up sooner rather than later. Your story about the snake reminds me of the time DH got up real early and saw one of the cat's toys on the floor and thought "wow, that's really realistic— it looks like a real mouse". When the cat walked in, he went to toss it to him and discovered it was, in fact, a real mouse.

Iris— Those tents are very glamorous. Wow!

The hot air balloons remind me of a story about two of DH's work colleagues. These two were a couple for years before parting ways when he was transferred to Europe. Let's call him John Doe and her Jane. They tried to be discrete, but it was an open secret and the subject of much gossip. A few years after the breakup Jane went on a bucket list trip to Africa and did the hot air balloon ride. When she landed wearing a tee shirt with the company's distinctive logo on it, the man helping her out of the basket recognized it and said "Do you know John Doe?" I mean, what are the odds.

Thanks for the good wishes regarding mom. Dr. Google tells me life expectancy after a diagnosis could be 2-7 years; at 87 with multiple medical issues, I don't know how a diagnosis would impact her unless her quality of life went south quickly.

I think I will rope DS into a Costco run today. The weather is much improved and I'm running out of various staples that are mostly too heavy to lift right now.

Have a great rest of your day.

I think anything that compresses the nerve in a carpal tunnel can cause carpal tunnel syndrome. My wife acquired CTS via a blood clot that lodged in a carpal tunnel.

Another hot day today. 70s now, 80 by 9:00, high in the 90s. I can't complain. It's far better than the heat wave in the mid-Atlantic States and the snowstorms in Australia. Actually, it's a normal summer day in SW Missouri.

Morning, already 85 with heat index of 97. Going to be another hot one. The barn swallow is on her nest. I know she gets hot but maybe leaves the nest a while to cool off. As hot as if is I doubt the eggs would cool off much.

D has four big wheels at his entryway and started painting them but ran out of paint. I may order things that don't need refrigeration so hope he will let me order more for him so he won't need to go back to town. We have two big ones at our main gate and two more at the next gate and I imagine they need fresh paint, too. . What was left of my loaf of French bread molded so guess I need to make a loaf today.

HB, sorry about your mothers possible diagnosis. I hope it all turns out okay.

Iris, those pictures are awesome. I just can't imagine seeing all those beautiful animals and it hurts to hear how they're decreasing in numbers. Your sleeping arrangements look comfortable, even the loo. Did the balloon ride scare you? Some years ago we were in Albuquerque at the Balloon Fiesta and saw the mass ascension one morning. The balloons are huge and so pretty. They said the people in the balloons could hear everything on the ground. Looks scary to me.but just imagine what you can see from.one.

Hope everyone is well today. Better get that bread going. It takes about three and a half hours. Back.later.

Here in SoCal we are having June gloom again. A marine layer of moisture rises up from the ocean and obscures the sun, making the morning cool, even chilly. But by around 11 am to noon, the warmth from the sun evaporates the marine layer and the weather becomes warm. The day may become hot but when the sun goes down, the temperature becomes cool again.

Lorita, when I was up in the balloon, I didn't hear any sound except the whoosh of the gas flame when the pilot opened the flue.

There are many programs and rules to protect the wild animals. It's amazing, some of the animals are only about five miles or so from a town. But they don't go into the town.

My brother attended the balloon fiesta in Albuquerque but he didn't go up because he has a fear of heights. I don't have that fear.

    Good afternoon Porch Rockers.

Iris. Thank you for all the pictures, there amazing, looks like you were real close to the animals. Sounds like you ate some of that crocodile, it did not look very apatizing to me. Your very brave. The tents are very nice. Those baby elephants are so cute, look like they drink a lot of milk.

Lorita. I hope there is nothing serious wrong with your car. It's nice your getting a new fridge. Seems like you just got that fridge.

I have had many different types of coffee pots, I love coffee. Iv had the fancy latte makers, but I finally went back to the old glass drip pots. The next will be a percolator, if I can find one that starts and finishes before I get up in the mornings.

I'm still dealing with hip problems. The doctor should have my hip x-ray back today. He gave me some pain pills to take if needed, so far i have not needed to. Were going to yoga tonight, hopefully the stretching will be good. Doctor said don't stop yoga.

It's hard to keep up with all of you, your all so busy. Hugs Zetta

Zetta, we have had that refrigetstor 25 yesrs. We bought it when we moved down to the farmhouse in 2000. It's been a good one except for the icemaker. What's wrong with your hip, Zetta? Do you really enjoy yoga and is it helping your balamce?

Got a call from the dealer to bring the car in next Tuesday at 8:30. She said they had talked with the mechanic who said it wouldn't take too long to fix it. When I was there Tuesday they thought it would take most of the day. I surely don't want to be stuck there too long.

Beth, it looks like you may be getting some rain today. There are storms or rain west of us now but not sure they'll get this far east.

Carl, where in Missouri are those B2 bombers located? They look IIke something out of science fiction.

I have stayed inside all day except when I fed the birds the last of their feed for this summer this morning. I worry about Darwin being outside in this heat. He doesn't know when to stop once he gets started. I can identify with that so I try to not get started.

Need to think about something for supper, maybe potato wedges or French fries in the NuWave oven along with cottage cheese. Never got those microwave muffins made. Maybe tomorrow.

Judith, about 30 miles away. Sears is going to replace it . We've had a policy with Sears for years where if they can't repair an covered appliance, they replace it. It was approved for replacement in January but they never notified me. Now it has to.be reapproved. They replaced an air conditioner a couple of years ago. Is it raining over there?

Darwin just told me he inhaled too much paint fumes yesterday when he was painting his wheels. Said it made him dizzy. He needs a medical guardian.

Yes. Every appliance is covered except the air conditioners, I think, and the microwave. If it was built in, it would be. Not sure about the hot water heater. They charge $100 to come out and repair but if they come back for the same thing within 180 days,no charge.

I was just outside and looked at the caladiums. They are gorgeous. They' re not too tall yet but some of the leaves are huge. They are light green edges with white centers and dark red veins. The others are dark, dark red. Some.of the red veined leaves are about 12" long and at least 8" wide. I have three big planters of them, mixed. I wouldn't have needed as many as I got. Did you get yours planted and are they up?

The B2 bombers are based at Whiteman AFB in central Missouri, near Warrensburg. I saw them from a distance when my son's Boy Scout troop toured the base back in about 1990. They do look like flying saucers. There's no tail, just the specially shaped wings and paint that makes them reflect radar waves in all directions instead of back to the sending unit. A radar operator can't tell them from a small object like a bird.

Most military bases are named for generals, but Whiteman was a 22-year-old second lieutenant. He was one of the few fighter pilots to get his plane off the ground at Pearl Harbor, and, outnumbered about 100 to one, one of the first American soldiers to die in WW II.

Thanks Carl. They are futuristic looking planes. Hate to say this but never knew about that base and who it was named for.. He certainly deserved it.

I was watching Lawrence O'Donnell and the guest said over 350_000 people, babies and adults have died from preventable disease and hunger since USAID was dismantled while medicine and food and plumpy nut was being stored in locked warehouses. The plumpy.nut is made from.peanuts and is a paste that when given to babies can keep them from starving. I think it said it costs less than a dollar a day. Just makes me heartsick.

Time for bed. Will say Good Night for now.
