hello

Having a bad day today. Everyday is a roller coaster. My 56yo DH has FTD, and within the past week I have now had to put him on Anxiety meds. He is obsessed with dying and now I can no longer leave him alone because he thinks he will die without me here. I have looked into MC, but the problem is, he’s so aware of things that I’m not sure if it’s time yet. And I’m afraid he will just cry the entire time he’s there.

He now won’t take his medicine because he feels that it’s choking him and that he can’t swallow it. I’m starting to come to my breaking point and I don’t want to cry or break in front of him because he hasn’t done anything wrong.

He’s also now just laying in bed all day and night. I have a hard time convincing him he needs to get up and move around

Any advice on taking meds or MC would be great.

I'm so sorry for this. My only suggestion would be to check with the pharmacist to se if you can crush the meds then mix them in something soft like yogurt or applesauce. Or see if there is a quick dissolve or liquid form.

    Others will have more ideas.

I would also suggest asking the pharmacist if you can crush or get liquid form. I have had to crush meds before but some are very bitter and the applesauce didn’t cover that bitterness.

Is he being followed by a geriatric psychatrist? It seems like his medication regimen needs to be optimized.

Hey there jca555, sorry you're having a rough time. Like Plenty Quiet, trottingalong had mention crushing the meds, or see about liquid form and placing them in some type food is the way to go under your circumstance. My DW was diagnose with AD when she was 55 now at 60 and I want through the same as you. I've been crushing her meds for 3yrs placing them in yogurt and applesauce which works great for us. I was a little worried about sneaking her meds into her food. All her doctors informed me, " as long as there prescribe to her and I was giving her the right dosage there was nothing wrong with that." Hope things workout for you.

some meds cannot be crushed. Extended release capsules for example. Talk to the pharmacist. They will know. If they can’t be crushed, get a new prescription for tablets that can be. Or get liquid. I would look into memory care. It will take awhile to narrow and tour several and the intake process takes time. They may have waiting lists. Don’t wait. I would get his medications adjusted so he’s not depressed and crying asap. The meds may take time to be effective.

My husband took meds in chocolate pudding — enough to drown out the taste.
