Hair cut and shave while in hospital

If my spouse is in a facility or hospital how can he get a haircut or shave or nails cut if he cannot go out or it is not safe to take him, or should I just risk it and take him to get this done Also he needs a shower He can bathe himself but has trouble with turning it on and off (I have to do this for him and then the rage steps in) And he can dress himself. If the hospital keeps for a few days how do I get these things done?

Trust the hospital staff to provide safe and effective care. While a person is acutely ill enough to be in the hospital, haircuts and shaving take a back seat. If he is subsequently placed in a geri-psych unit or MCF they will have the equipment and expertise to shower and shave a person with dementia. They are very often able to help in ways that do not trigger the PWD as family members sometimes do, making placement a win-win because the PWD does not like being triggered or enraged any more than the caregiver does.

My DW's MCF has an onsite salon where she can get her hair washed and cut. It's an extra charge. Routine hygiene is handled by the MCF staff.

This is great advice. I'd just add that many hospitals and facilities also have on-site or contracted servies for hair and nail care, and they might even be covered by insurance. You can just directly ask the staff, the social worker or nurse about what services are available.
