Feeling so Sad

Hi there - DH was diagnosed with MCI due to AD in July. He's 66; I'm 58. I posted last month and many of your responses to me were so helpful. I'm meeting with a counselor for my newfound anxiety. I'm anxious about his/our future. Although he's doing so well and he's in the early stages, daily I'm witnessing his forgetfulness. I feel so sad for him. I know he's embarrassed, said he feels stupid; he's scared about the future. It's so hard to witness and I find myself not talking, not sharing events in my day because I know I will have to repeat myself. This whole thing really stinks!! He attended an online support group yesterday and said it was helpful to talk with others who have dementia. He realized it's not a death sentence. I'm just venting and I do appreciate you allowing me to. thank you!

I am sorry you are here with us. My husband is early stage. When we received the diagnosis, I was where you are now. The depression and anxiety of what was to come ripped me apart. This site has been a lifesaver for me along with a private therapist. Read The 36 Hour Day. It will help you prepare for the future. Get your legal affairs in order immediately. We are living each day to its fullest while we still have this time. We planned vacations, day trips, time with friends and family. Don’t waste this precious time to build memories and enjoy the time before the tables turn on this disease.
