Carl - Yeah, we've fallen back. For us in the PNW it means that today the sun sets before 5pm. Good thing I don't mind the dark!
I saw a poll today that of those polled 56% of people would prefer year-round daylight savings time, while 42% would prefer year-round standard time. Put me in the year-round daylight savings time. Changing the clocks doesn't bother me in any way, but if I had a choice …..
Lorita and eaglemom - I'm jealous of your beautiful weather! For us, we're all enjoying this last day of sun today, starting tomorrow we'll have rain for the next eight days.
Iris - Thank you! I never thought I was the marrying kind, but it turns out, I am. My s.o.'s mom says a similar thing about us - "I'm so glad the two of you found each other."
Your trip to the Maritime museum looks really interesting. Lots of history there. My dad was in the Navy during WWII and spent his time on the USS Colorado. He never tired talking about it, and I never tired of hearing about it. Now, some of the decking of the ship has become flooring in the USO Center at the Seattle airport. (kind of an aside, sorry about that)
On the downside - Star-Kist tuna pie? Oh no. No, no, no. I can't even. 😄
Lorita - I love hearing all about the cows. I'm one who never thought they were dumb, even though I have no experience with them. Mammals all have relatively large brains, and we're all using them for something, you know?
Okay. I'm going out to sweep our driveway again. So many leaves. Our driveway is kind of long, so this is going to take a bit of time.
I'm telling ya, those Snoozies are like little warm clouds for your feet. Just don't tell anyone I have the white sparkly ones - I don't want to lose my goth card!

Eating at my son’s again! Chicken and dumplings and he told me next Sunday would be chicken and sausage gumbo. That boy loves to cook!

Eagle, were you holding your breath?..I know I was. Good game though.
Judith, I think Mr. Rat may have had something to do with it. I left the hatchback up one night and it was ok. Did it night before last, so maybe. Darwin is coming over in the morning to jump start it. A neighbor he talked to suggested a live catch trap so it wouldn't get caught and we couldn't find it.

I am so sleepy so will say good night.

Lorita, indeed there are many interesting places to visit here. That's why I'm glad that LA County sponsors this program to bring seniors to different places as a group on public transportation. I probably wouldn't go by myself, and I don't want to drive to and park at so many places far away from home.
Usually there are two leaders and up to ten seniors participating. There are one or two trips each month. The fare for seniors is 35 cents each way. If we visited an attraction with a charge, often the program will pay for our tickets. On each visit we stop at a restaurantbfor lunch. So it's a nice outing for the day.
I use a couple of drops of Johnson's Baby Shampoo in a bit of warm water on a Q-tip to clean my lids.
GG, I like DST but for only six months in the warmer months. I don't mind switching twice a year.
I'm off to bed too. Good night.

Good morning!
Remember when I was talking about how fast my propane was going down. Friday, my son bought me an electric heater and set it at the end of my camper, in the middle. My heater from the propane bottle did not run all weekend, even as cold as it was. Be been comfortable and shouldn’t have to worry about running out of propane. I’ve got two small bottles, but need to get a larger one.
I’m still hurting a lot and hopefully will find something out this week.
Ron

Ron, your son is quite a cook! Glad you got the electric heater. That plus the propane should keep the camper warm. It will be nice when you have your cabin with central heat and air. I hope you get answers to what is causing and how to relieve your pain. You've been through a lot this past couple of years.
I would like to be on either DST or standard time, either, just not wanting to change twice a year. We have 12 clocks so that is a lot of clock re-setting to do! We got all but the microwave and 2 cars done.
Iris, your trip looked great! Such a good deal financially for your trips, too. Thank you for sharing your photos.
Lorita, I hope you can get resolution to the rodent issues. You have funds; how about building a garage to house your vehicles?
The leaves are so colorful here now. Some are starting to fall. I will mow them up; some will stay on the lawn to decompose there and some I'll put in my compost.
Going to Cheesecake Factory, UPS Store and the mall today. Also exercise class.
Have a great day, everyone!

Morning, WM delivery soon so had to get Billy in the lot and fed. Opened the gate for WM, got the GPs inside and I'm already pooped. Seems like there is always so much to do. I remembered last night that I had one of those Bolt starters for the car. Will try that later.
Beth, no idea how you could even make a garage rat proof. The time we have had trouble with rodents was probably 15-20 years ago when they ate the wiring on our antique car. They cover the wiring in vehicles with stuff rodents like so they chew it. Seems like with all the technology we have they could figure out something else to use. I have sprayed so much Grandpa Gus in the car, you can smell it when you walk by. Not really unpleasant but not too good. Ordered some air fresheners for the car.
It seems like there is always so many things to deal with. Don't know if it's because I'm an old lady or if there are more things to deal with and aggravate us. Makes a person want to go back to bed and pull the covers over our head. I need some hot tea!!

Lorita, son and DIL had rodent problems when they bought this place. They are now rat free after two beautiful cats became part of the family. They are yard cats but have a nice cozy box on the porch with heating pad to keep warm on cold nights.

Good morning.

Ron, we used to have lots of barn cats but they all disappeared, probably caught out in the pastures and gotten by coyotes. Then I had Tom and Jerry. They stayed in the carport, then disappeared. I would love to have a couple but if they got in the yard the GPs would get them. They kill anything that gets in. I don't know what the answer is but it's getting to me.
Glad you have the electric heater. The only heat source I have is a propane heater along with electric heaters. Are you going to have your cabin built to order or buy one and have it moved.
It is a pretty day but the wind has really gotten up. It was calm earlier. Hope you're feeling better today.

The house I grew up in was built in 1938, the house I live in was built in 1941. Both had central heat and central air was added in the 50's. Why is there nothing like that in the country???
added…my friend on Madeline Island has no central heat either but she has a panal. Now she is having her pipes winterized….too much work

Can't get the car started. Tried the Halo Bolt and the battery charger. I know I'm doing it right because I've used both before. It says fuel is low- last time I drove it, it had over half a tank. I guess I can see if Darwin can use jumper cables (I have never done that). Probably have to have it towed in a but it would probably happen again unless I can figure out something, but what?
Went out to the barn to get hay for Billy and a little calf was latching in the hallway. He got up and I saw he has pinkeye in his right eye - looks bulged out and red. A little later I saw a cow and little calf going up to the others but not sure it was the same one. There is pinkeye everywhere. Our cows had it years ago and we treated them with injections. I have told Mike about it, so he knows.
Really getting worn out and disgusted with things. Also worried about Sheena. She has lost weight and wants to stay outside all the time. She will be twelve in January.

well…if you are driving it every other day and the gas has gone down that much and the battery does not start there is something wrong. I would call AAA right now. If nothing else you will get rid of the rat by doing that.

added…I do not think the car is safe to drive!!!!
Rats chew car fuel lines because they are always chewing to grind down their teeth, and sometimes the insulation has a sweet taste. This damage can cause fuel leaks, engine misfires, or a car that won't start and is a common problem in urban areas or for cars parked for long periods. To fix this, the fuel line needs to be repaired or replaced, and preventive measures like using rodent-repelling sprays or protective barriers should be implemented to stop future damage.0 -
Iris…thank you. Your trips have been so enjoyable and educational!

I'm going to call them.in then morning, not to start it but to take it to the dealer. No wet places or smell of fuel!. I think it's the indicator thing. I agree that it isn't safe. I wss hesitant to try to jump it. I was supposed to take it in to have the check engine light checked but that's when I got sick.
Sandy told me about a rodent resistant tape that wires can be wrapped with. Also will have them check for openings a rat can get through underneath the car. I checked under the PU hood and it looks okay. Good night, everyone. Sorry to unload on you all.

Good evening. I just got home from seeing the Daniel O'Donnell show in Branson. It was pretty good but I kept thinking how much my wife would have enjoyed it, and that took some of the fun out of it. Women love O'Donnell. The scene at the theater looked like a field of dandelions with all the permed white heads, with a few men mixed in.
Hope you all get your heat, rodent, and other fall-related problems under control. The HVAC man will be here Thursday to make sure my heat is in running order. I am using the heat and it works fine, but he can clean the furnace, change the filters, etc.
It's after nine. Good night!

Rodents and cars, ugh. I haven't had that problem so far (knock on wood). We live in a fairly wooded area, so there are critters around. On the plus side we have a lot of owls. I usually don't see them, but I always hear them.
Today was a 'getting things done' kind of day for me. Bill paying, mostly, but also pre-travel stuff. We're getting ready to go to Charleston, SC to see my mom-in-law, so I wanted to do some light clean-up, get the last of the laundry done, etc. I always make sure to do a full computer back-up before I go anywhere, so I need to do that as well. We'll get it done. Tonight's Death Guild, but I don't know that I'll stay up for all of it (maybe not even most of it).
We're back to the cold and the rain. 🙂 And now that we're into November - we have the darkness.
Otherwise, all is well in my neck of the PNW woods.

Lorita, if the GPs will chase anything, perhaps if they spent more time in the yard they would deter the rodent. Even if they didn't catch it, their scent would be all over.
Tomorrow is Election Day, I've to get out to vote.
Good night.

good morning, I have been asked about my cabin by several in the front porch and keep forgetting to respond. I have decided to wait until spring/summer and unless I see another I like better, it will be the prebuilt cabin I shared a picture of about a month ago.
Carl, I’m sorry that I’ve missed going to the center lately, but health is keeping me in for now. Along with everything else I’m now unsteady on my feet and lightheaded. This is a big plus right now for my camper, walking space is narrow, so it’s plenty of items for support when walking.Ron

G'mornin'.
Eaglemom— I hope your DH enjoyed his German Chocolate cake. I mean, what's not to love?
Beth— That's some dinner. Wow. I do love an Italian sausage sandwich— the ones at the street festivals or boardwalk especially. My people don't care for them, so they're not something I would fix at home. I had to google Scotcharoos. Fancy Rice Krispy Treats. Cool. I thought I'd seen every iteration of Rice Krispy Treats at scout camp. They were dessert most evenings and they'd swap out the cereal for things like Froot Loops or Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
I'd happily stick to DST. But I think my bigger issue is developing cataracts and the sun low in the sky is the real problem. Afternoon driving is a challenge now. My uncle collected clocks and it took him a week to 10 days to get them all on the same time. My boys don't like chiming clocks, so I don't even bother to wind the 3 I have on the mantle. My uncle gave me a lovely antique kitchen clock as a wedding gift. BIL gave me small case clock "made in occupied Japan" and I have one from West Germany. But they're silent. The range and car are pretty straightforward but the microwave? not so much. If anything happens to me, it will never be reset. Bonus points for annoying— when we lose power the clock stays dark until you reset it.
Gothic G— The idea of the condiments is hysterical. It seems kids today have access to plenty of treats and kind of prefer the novelty of an off-the-wall offering. My friend offers $1 bills, full sized bars and instant ramen. She runs out of ramen. My stylist handed out small potatoes last years which got a chuckle out of the kids who came to his house.
My slippers of choice are the L.L. Bean "wicked good" style. I live in them year round.
Ron— It sounds like your son is a chip off the old block with his cooking skills. You're no slouch.
How does the cabin set-up go? Will it be on your son's property as an ADU or a different piece of land? Do you need to do any permitting or bring utilities in ahead of the installation or does the contractor handle all of that for you?
Judith— Sum and Substance is an impressive Hosta. Mom's garden is pocket-sized and there would be no room for them. What I transplanted from my own garden, aka the salad bar, was good sized. I did the bed in 2019 and it's only this year that the hostas don't totally obscure the shrubs.
Carl— I had no idea who Daniel O'Donnell is. I had to google him. I guess I didn't get the email. It is bittersweet when you see something a LO would have enjoyed without them.

Election Day. DH and I will head out later. DS will probably go on his way to class. The weather is perfect today so mom should be able to walk to her polling place 0.3 miles away without needing a ride.
Mom doesn't have any appointments this week so I am laying low and puttering around the house. My goal for today is to organize my pantry. I'm going to have an avalanche otherwise. I should really power wash my front walk but I don't feel like setting up the hose and machine and then bleeding the outside line which is currently winterproofed already.

Good morning.
Ron, do you do leg and balance exercises? I have started doing them and they seem to help me.

good morning
wow there’s been a lot of chatter on here. That is good.
I have not been on for a day or two
I think it’s tomorrow if I remember correctly that it’s the full beaver moon
those who are not feeling well I hope you’re feeling better soon.
those who are dealing with rats are way more patient than me. I would’ve called pest control long ago.Iris I’m glad you’re still getting out and traveling
see I missed a good meal on the porch also
my nephew is now starting his second week of CDL school. I’m very thankful so far. He is in no way overwhelmed and seems to actually be OK. He has a test either today or tomorrow.
take care

Beautiful sunny day here and just right for pulling wire for the electric fence, which we will do this afternoon.
Dear Aunt is improved. We’re all rotating check ins during the day. The chocolate cake was a hit and is gone so I made carrot cake yesterday and delivered it.Looking forward to seeing the Beaver Moon.
Hope everyone has a trouble free day ❤️

Back from Homeland where I got my Covid shot and roamed the aisles picking up this and that. Then on to the fresh deli for a bit of Tabouli and banana pudding to try.
Do we have a car report???
Ron…did you put up a stair rail???

Warm and very windy here today. My.mother and daddy got married 96 years ago today. She was 15 and he was 22. They did make it to 66 years which was really good.
You're right, MInt, Beaver Super moon tomorrow. It was really bright last night, too.
Glad your nephew is doing well getting his commercial license. I wish an exterminator would help but it's getting colder and field mice and other rodents are looking for a warm, winter home and there would be no way to exterminate all of them. I did get a vicious looking rat trap yesterday. Looks like a small bear trap. Waiting for a callback from my car insurance company, AFR, about payment for rodent damage. My deductible is $1_000 though.
Think I will let Billy out this afternoon because he isn't limping. Mike said he gave me more medicine than he will need. Back later.

Warm and windy here too. I'm not involved in the election this year. The only thing on the ballot is a tax issue in the City of Springfield and I don't live in town, so I don't get a vote.
Italian sausage always reminds me of my cousin who bought a house in the Italian section of Kansas City. He found a little family grocery who made their own sausages, and they were terrific! I miss him, he was a fun-loving guy.
Ron, I hope you get better soon. We're closed on Veteran's Day so we're having a special veteran's program Friday, with lunch at 11:30, flag folding by VFW at noon, and cake cutting at 12:20. Hope you can make it! 🗽

Carl, my.parents always made their own sausage and I can remember how good it was, just the right amount of spices. I bet you remember sausage gravy and biscuits, too. The only kind that ever came close was Blue and Gold sausage sold every year by FFA.

One of my uncles raised hogs, made his own sausage, and shot deer in season. My aunt made a meatloaf from ground venison and sausage that was the best I have ever eaten. The Italian sausage my cousin bought was good too. We grilled it in summer and put it on pizza in winter. I love biscuits and gravy too. There used to be a place in Jefferson City that had B&G ready to eat so you could have some while your breakfast cooked. It was so good that I wasn't hungry by the time the eggs and hashbrowns were ready!
