Good evening
HB I don't know what his plans are. We first have to get through the class, then get a job, and see how it goes.

Ron, I slept poorly last night, then slept late and missed you by about ten minutes. Sorry I didn't get to see you. One of "my" women brought a new man, a neighbor with whom she walks around the block. I think his name is Bill. Nice fellow. Looks a lot like you (very handsome) so we clearly have competition.
Iris, one of my diabetic uncles was a minister, and those church ladies nearly killed him before he learned to say "no" and mean it when they pressed him to eat the baked goods they brought to church. Their generosity landed him in hospital at least once. As Dirty Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) said, "A man has to know his limitations."
I'm off to Griefshare and it will be late when I get home so I'll say good night now. Safe travels!

Iris, Lorita is correct 👍 those are soybeans. Harvest is underway all around us. My farmer is still working cotton and the beans were planted last due to all the rains we had.

Ron, glad you have water again. We don't know how much we use and need it until we no longer have it - same with electricity.
What a handsome young msn you were and still are. Bet the girls swooned.
Be sure to let your water run a small stream, hot and cold, tonight. Supposed to be cold again. It's nice outside now, a bit cool but not bad. I fed Billy this morning and just gave him hay.
The PU started!!! Drove it a couple of miles and saw the girls. Whatever Darwin did worked. Talked to the service dept.. at the garage. My car is next to be worked on They don't work tomorrow so it will be a few more days. Going in the bedroom where it's warmer. GPs are outside and don't want to come in yet. Sleep well. Good night.

I never would have guessed soybeans. I don't think I ever ate soybeans, although I have drunk soy milk and I have eaten tofu.
Yea, the PU is working again!
Carl, unlike your uncle, no one was urging me to eat the sweets, I just have a sweet tooth and sweets still call my name.
I took Adam to the vet this afternoon, he's lost another pound, now 7 1/2 pounds, down from a high of 17 pounds a few years ago. He had an abdominal ultrasound performed, a blood pressure and blood tests. They will call me when they get the results. He was supposed to have a sanitary shave because he no longer cleans his hind parts, but it doesn't appear to me that he was shaved. I may have to take him back. He gets so stressed out from going to the vet, naturally because he gets poked, prodded and stuck.
Good night.

We made it back home from Charleston. I'm so relieved. When we got to the airport this afternoon there was a sea of red on the arrivals/departures board - so many canceled and delayed flights. Miraculously, our flight was on time. I feel like we dodged a very large bullet. I'm going to sleep now - more in the morning.

Good morning
I’m looking forward to my grandson’s High School Veterans Day celebration. I’m supposed to meet him for breakfast in the School’s Cafeteria, and assembly afterwards.
I left my faucets dripping last night and still froze last night. My son had ran a industrial hose from their well to my camper, but I guess it needs to be buried.Happy Veterans Day to all Veterans!
Ron

Ron, are you using a heated water hose??
0 -
II've never heard of a heated waterhose. We always brought ours inside when we weren't watering. That would be grest. What will they think of next?
JeriLynn, you mentioned 'your farmer', were you referring to your husband or do you lease your land for farming? I really miss seeing fields of cotton, from the time it comes up until it's ready for picking. Machines were never used for that around here, just our hands. Guess I'm really dating myself.
Cold this morning, sunny and windy but will be near 60 later today and maybe up to 80 by the weekend. Guess I better go feed Billy and leave the gate open so he can go out.

I'm glad you made it home without delay, GG.
I woke up early at 5 am, it was foggy.

Lorita,
I lease part of the land to my neighbor whose father farmed alongside my grandfather. This year there was so much rain at planting time, most of the cotton and beans were late to the ground. They're pushing hard to get the cotton picked and then will proceed with beans.
We have a heated water hose for our RV in cold weather. I don't know how it works but we have one, lol.
We're pulling out for the campground in about an hour. I'll post fall pictures while we are away.
Today is SIL's birthday so I have a nice fall bouquet of flowers for her in the motorhome. With a spaghetti sauce mason jar and pretty paper to wrap that in and a string tied bow, it will look nice in her camper while we are away and when they're done, she can just throw away the jar.

off to Morgan Stanley…taking Eloise, Madeline and Pippi Longstocking books for the new baby girl.
1 -
Good morning all.
My car's in the shop with brake issues <gulp> and the handyman stopped by to dig out my old mailbox and install the new post/box. It's funny how the mailbox looked enormous when it was sitting in my office but doesn't outside.
Since I'm grounded at home, I've decided to tackle the pantry which is hopelessly disorganized. So far, I haven't had to toss too much out.
HB1 -
Judith, isn't Morgan Stanley closed today because of the holiday?. What new baby girl?
Had 'the' call from dealership. The rat has chewed through wires in the wire harness so that has to be fixed before they can figure out the fuel thing.Asked if they had found the rat .No, but he is still in there- tried to build a nest last night. They found a round place it had chewed somewhere around the spare compartment. So far the cost is just under my deductible of $1000. I may lower the deductible. I did ask about the wired tape and they will check to see if they have it or if it is available.
Darwin said the neighbor north of him has had rodent problems, too.

Thank you for your service, to the Veterans!

For sure, Iris. We owe a lot to each of them. At the VA Hospital where I worked, they had an avenue of flags around their circular drive in front of the hospital. Absolutely beautiful. There is a National Cemetery in our area and I know they will have the flags there, too.
Just heard the new VA Hospital in Tulsa will only have 58 beds! Cost is in the millions. When I.began work in 1961 our hospital had over 450 beds. I don't think the Tulsa hospital was needed. They had an outpatient clinic. The veterans in far SE Okla. Will have an extra 60 miles to go to get care. We used to lodge veterans overnight so they could keep their appointment the next day. Everything has gone outpatient.
0 -
Lorita, the VA clinics I go to both are outpatient; Branson and Springfield. If I had to have a hospital stay it would be the VA hospital Fayetteville Arkansas or care in the community.
I had a great time at my grandson’s high school, he did oversleep and I missed breakfast, but the program was good.
Ron

Ron, glad you had a good time. How old is your grandson?
I haven't been inside the Fayetteville Hospital but have been by and saw the grounds, very pretty. You know before I retired our hospital was sending our laundry to Fayetteville to do.. When I went to work our hospital had a laundry and our own fire department but as time went by, things changed. Guess everything does though. The grounds of our hospital were pretty with huge Magnolia trees and a big rose garden but eventually concrete parking lots took over.
Been a pretty day here and it really warmed up. It's 66 right now.Started the PU and drove it some. Did put a bar of Irish Spring under the hood, wedged in. That's what the salesman said to do two years ago. I did but it still didn't work.

Trying to catch up …
Thanks Carl and JeriLynn - your good wishes helped. We got back more or less on time, and the flight was smooth. I couldn't really ask for more.
And Boise to Portland in 6 1/2 hours? Piece of cake.
JeriLynn - I've never seen how soybeans grow, but I like to eat them. 🙂 I hope you have a great trip!
Lorita - I've never seen Steel Magnolias. And yay!! You got the PU going. I'm sorry about the rat problem. Ugh.
Iris - I hope you're doing better now. If you go to a Japanese restaurant you can get warm soybeans with a little salt on them. They are delicious.
Ron - You were SO young in that photo.
Judith - Madeline!! I loved those books.
Heated water hoses? I've never heard of such a thing!
Happy Veterans Day!! I still have my dad's flag, neatly folded.
As for me, I think I'm fully recovered from my travel day. I worked out at the gym this morning, and raked leaves when I got back. I'll feel that tomorrow! 😄
I'm getting ready to do my Tuesday afternoon DJ session. The set for today is Soft Cell. Remember Tainted Love from the '80s? I think everyone knows it via osmosis. You just couldn't get away from that song. So anyway, I'm playing that album (which is still good!), plus a few other things.
Here's a photo I took of my mom-in-law's back courtyard (at her independent living facility) at night. It was raining just a bit, and it was warm outside. Not the icy cold that we get when it rains. I thought it was pretty with all of the lights.

Glad you're home safe, GG. What a pretty place your MIL has to live!
Anyone who hasn't seen "Steel Magnolias" has missed out. I have seen it twice and would gladly watch it again. The title tells you what it's about: strong southern women who are brave to the point of stupidity. They kind of remind me of my mother.
My mother didn't get a flag when my father died. His discharge got lost some time or other, probably when we moved in '62, and she couldn't get a copy because some miscreant burned part of the records center in St. Louis during the protests against the Vietnam war and many WWII veterans' records were destroyed. I have photos of him in uniform and remember seeing his medals and discharge when I was a boy, but Mom got no flag, burial allowance, tombstone, etc.
Ron WAS young in that photo. The average age of the men who fought in Vietnam was 19. The officers and sergeants were older, but the riflemen were straight out of high school.
1 -
Glad you're back home, safe and sound, GG. That picture is so pretty.Must be a really nice place. Has your MIL adjusted well?.
Maybe, hopefully, they just might have my car ready in the next two days. But, then how do I keep that thing out of it? There are lights on the PU dash that shouldn't be but it runs good. So that will have to be taken care of before bad weather.
I think I will go in the bedroom and watch tv so will say Good night, sleep tight.

My broker's new baby girl.

One of these days I'll get to Steel Magnolias - I know it's good, and I'm sure I'd like it.
So. I've had an exciting night! There was a strong geomagnetic storm (KP 8) and auroras were widely visible. I saw some photos from as south as right around Sacramento. Nebraska, Ohio, Idaho, Montana were all represented.
We hustled and got out the door before 5pm (cutting Soft Cell a bit short), and we were rewarded. I took a million photos. Here are four of them. I'm still giddy.
That last photo was almost right above my head!
2 -
And here's one from my s.o. I'm giddy.
That's not water right at the top of the trees - it's sky.
2 -
GG, the photos are great! Your MIL's independent living courtyard looks like a nice place to sit in an evening when it's not raining.
Judith, I have a question for you. How was your training when you became a docent at the art museum? Did you have a background in art beforehand? The reason I ask is that one of the historical places near me was asking for volunteers to become docents. Apparently the schoolchildren are brought there to learn about life in the old days. This place was a sheep ranch 200 years ago, until oil was discovered. In stagecoach days it was a day's ride from the little village of Los Angeles. I'm wondering if I can remember all the historical stuff for the children.
I feel like I have to do something outside the house. My life has become mundane.
It's time for bed. Good night.

Good morning. It's chilly this morning but at least the wind has died down. We've has an unusually mild fall and yesterday was 15F below average and gusty which was just rude as we're not acclimated to the cold.
Jerilynn— Have a nice trip and send us some pictures.
Lorita— You've got me sold on Florida Boys. I think I'm going to order some for my bestie who grows them in her back yard along the patio.
Ron— I hope you get your hose situation squared away. Around here, some people use heat tape around pipes to avoid freezing. My previous house was built in the 1890's and the space that had been converted to a boathouse/garage was where the old well entered the building which was less than ideal. We came home once to a pinhole burst pipe which sprayed the entire space with a mist that froze on contact. It was beautiful to look at but not something I wanted to repeat.
I'm glad the program at the high school was a good one. DS's high school always recognized the vets each year. We knew some of them as the American Legion allowed the scouts to have their meetings there. Since I worked with the older boys putting together their Eagle projects in the lodge itself, I got to know a number of those characters.
Iris— I think you'd be great as a docent. I guess qualifications vary. When my mom lived in MD, she worked as docent at a historic house that was open only a few times a year. She'd been an art teacher and talked about the furniture, clothing and paintings in the collection.
Judith— Those are some classics. I'm sure the parents will appreciate them.
Gothic G— Those photographs are amazing. You're so fortunate to have caught that. We didn't see anything here, but it was very overcast. Some day.
That courtyard is lovely. It's funny how it even looks warm.
Carl— I'm sorry your mom didn't get a flag. You are so right about the age of the men in Vietnam. My bestie posted pictures of her late husband. He enlisted after college and the men in his charge referred to him as "the old man" at 23. In the pictures it looks as if he's babysitting them.
My niece posted some pictures of my late BIL when he was stationed at the aid station in Con Thien as a newly graduated doctor along with a Time article in which he was quoted that I'd not seen before.
I hope all have a pleasant day.

Good morning. I woke up at 4:15 and couldn't get back to sleep, so I got up. My newspaper hasn't arrived. I'm sipping my tea.
HB, you're always up early. Have you been an early bird all of your life?

Good morning! We saw the Northern Lights last evening too! GG, your photos are great! There are many photos of the Northern Lights in my Facebook feed this morning. We saw them around 8 p.m. I had never seen them before and it was a real treat! We could possibly see them again tonight. In case you are wondering, that is not my house. I walked about a block away to get a good view, since I live on the south side of the street there were multiple houses blocking my view of the north sky.

Good morning
Have any of you ever lost your mind and didn’t know where to find it? For the past several days I knew that a telephone appointment with my primary care was Wednesday the 13th. I didn’t realize that the 13th was not until Thursday until my Dr had called and I remembered that I had a veterans celebration yesterday the 11th. Also, over the weekend I had a email noticed of an automatic withdrawal pending for the 16th. I called the company to make sure they had all my current information and gave them the id number of where the withdrawal would come out of. It wasn’t till the next day I realized I gave them their own information to withdraw from themself instead of where it should have been. So, if anyone sees a lose brain rolling around save it fir me.
Ron

Northern Lights….beautiful!!!!
Iris…we train 4 hour a month because the exhibits change. Training includes how to lead a tour which is pretty much universal and then exhibit specific. We then sign up on line for when we want to lead a tour. I have a masters in art history but some docents have no art education. A bunch are retired educators. Our newest is a pharmacist. Old timey things would be fun.
GG…do watch Steel Magnolias if for no other reason then to see Shirley McLaine.
