Which one was Shirley McClain? Are there two Steel Magnolias? I remember Shelby having a hypoglycemic attack but didn't see it in this one but I missed the first part of it.

Did you see the.Northern lights, Judith? I didn't know about them but will watch tonight. I saw them many years ago and hope I can again.

Had my groceries delivered and included was a ditty bag with a couple of protein drinks, a coke, pain patch, cough drops and several other little things. I could just imagine some other little old lady ordering these things and waiting for them. No meds were in the bag. Called WM and they said it was for me- never happened before.

It's a beautiful warm day here. To be warmer each day until next week. Thanks to you all for posting the pictures. Our local news showed some this morning taken a little farther north of here. Bright reds and greens. It said the camera can intensify the colors.Just imagine what people thought when they first saw them!

Wow, Beth, you got some great shots too!!! I'm so glad you were able to see them. I saw my first one just last year, and it was almost overwhelming. Intellectually I knew they moved, but it's different seeing them move across the sky in real life. I also wasn't prepared for the aurora to be everywhere in the sky, including up above.

Apparently last night's geomagnetic storm was huge. People saw lights as far south as Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, and even Florida.

There's a chance of another big storm tonight. My s.o. was checking his aurora app (it's called Glendale, if anyone is interested). The CME (coronal mass ejection) just hit Earth, so in awhile we'll know the strength, angle, etc. I know for us in Washington state, we'll see nothing no matter how strong - we're socked in with clouds and rain. But for some of you others, keep your eyes peeled!

If I get any other good info, I'll post it - hopefully in time for some of you to be able to use it.

Or mine, Ron. It has been a most beautiful day here in Eastern Oklahoma and by what our weatherman says this weather will continue though the next week The Pyrenees are loving it, Sheena especially. They're out now and I may leave them out. Sheena awakens me about 2 wanting to go out so may leave her out to begin with.

QVC has polar fleece sheet sets for $50. I ordered a set of velvet soft sheets but haven't put them on. They feel so soft.. No idea what the difference between the two kinds might be.

Getting ready to see the.northern lights, I hope. Zetta, did you all see them.last night? You all sleep well tonight. Good night for now.

Just a quick note - northern lights info - three CMEs hit today, so there's a strong chance those of you without clouds may see something. Nothing for us in Washington state - we're socked in. 😄 Fingers crossed for the rest of you!!

The sky is overcast here, so cannot see the northern lights, also we are far south. The pictures are great.

Judith, it sounds like you get good preparation for being a docent. It sounds like fun!

I had to take Adam back to the vet to complete his sanitary shave. He got his hind parts shaved to make his litter box runs easier, because older cats stop grooming themselves as thoroughly as they did in their younger days.

He also has to take prednisone and a probiotic for inflammatory bowel problems. I hope he does better soon.

I'm trying to hold onto my brain too!

Morning, woke up at 4:40 and not sleepy so checking out the news. Was going to let the GPs in but they didn't come when I called. Guess only Max and I are awake. I did hear a rooster when I opened the back.door.
Iris, how do you give the Prednisone to Adam? I imagine the probiotics is !lquid so that would be easier. I hate giving medicine to cats because it is so hard. I try to give a probiotics to Max because he upchucks after he eats. I give probiotics, vitamins and glucosamine to the GPs every day. I need to take my vitamins and calcium, too.
The news is making me sleepy so will stop. I think I saw just a bit of pale green northern lights last night.

This picture is from Ms C. Stinson of Mentone, AL; the town is minutes from our campsite.

    IMG_4200.jpeg

I confess I didn’t see this as I had been up since 3 am yesterday and fell out dead before 9 pm 🙄.

We’re eating good on this trip. Breakfast was biscuits made in the electric skillet, eggs, bacon, country ham, oatmeal, homemade raisin cinnamon bread and fruit. Lunch was Brunswick stew with homemade sourdough bread, assorted sandwiches, cinnamon rolls from a local bakery and more fruit. I feel fat🤣

Good morning all. No aurora visible here. Bummer. We've been socked in by clouds for a couple of days now. We should see the sun in a couple hours but it's bringing wind along with it. This has been a windy autumn thus far.

I need to cut down the rest of my perennials, but the wind blows the compost bags around which is annoying. Maybe I'll move a few while I'm at it. The landscape crew pulled out a lot of things last spring. I should make a plan to schedule earlier in the season before things are up.

I should really do a fall lawn treatment as well. Most of my neighbors are all-in on lawn chemical services which can make my yard look ghastly by comparison. I should mow one last time as the front lawn is a bit shaggy and my edging skills are superior to DS's. The back year doesn't need cutting but it will help the leaves break down into the soil faster.

To answer your question, I haven't always been an early riser. I enjoy the peace and quiet before my boys are up.

Good morning. The pictures of the Northern Lights are just breath taking. Here in TX, far away from the city people were saying they had seen them. Where I'm from, central KS, the pictures my friends are posting are amazing. I remember seeing them several times. Whenever we go back home, we are always blown away by the night sky. You see the Milky Way and more stars than you can count. I do miss that living in a city.

Need to get busy before our Zoom. Back later to check on everyone. Let's be safe everyone.

Never did go back to sleep. Darwin said he and his daughter saw the northern lights, not really vivid but there. That was before I went out to check. Maybe next time. It's just after 11 and already 69, sunny and a little windy.

My tablet has changed into a split keyboard. Anyone know how to change it back? About out of power so better charge this. Back later.

Good morning. I fell asleep at 11 pm, woke up at 3 am for about an hour, then woke up again at 10 am. I do feel rested now. But I still would like to wake up regularly around 7 am. I'm going to keep working on that time.

When I worked I was an early riser, no problems with that. Now my sleep is so disrupted. My cousin says that comes with age, because her sleep is like mine, too.

I will give Adam his prednisone this morning, with some food. I hope it doesn't have a bad taste for him.

The second sanitary shave got more fur, but not as much as I would have liked. I might have to attempt to shave him myself with my leg shaver.

Now to feed the cats. People think cats don't need as much attention as dogs, but they do. It's just not the same type of attention. In fact, I think they might need more attention. At least mine do.

IrIs, do you set your alarm for the same time every day? I do so I can be awake when Darwin calls but I wake up just before it goes off so could do without It.

I think both cats and dogs need a lot of attention. My GPs can sleep most of the day but two and sometimes all three cats end up either on my lap or in the chair with me..

Just talked with my plumber and we decided I need a new propane heater. The one I have is maybe 20 years old. He Said there is a slim chance they could blow out this one and it might last a year. The newer ones are safer even to keep on at night but .I probably wouldn't do that. I need to put the feet on the Dura Flame.

Also need to call Bryon about mowing. I need to get rid of the dead crab grass north of the house. There is a lot of dead grass down toward the main road and I worry about someone throwing out a cigarette.

Went to the mailbox and around to the feeding area. Had noticed none of the girls were around this morning so was curious where they were. I saw a feed truck go by the barn yesterday but didn't see them feed. They have begun setting out hay and that is keeping the girls up there. There is plenty of hay so glad they have done that.

Called Bryon and he and his cousin will come Sunday. It's about time to close up the north end of the barn so will check on that tomorrow. Maybe I can close the big hall doors. I know there will be digging to do before the cowshed doors can close and I don't think I can do that. Need to call and check on car. When does everything get done? Going to watch Wagon Train now.

Now that I've recovered from the excitement of the northern lights ….

Iris, Lorita, and Carl - the facility where my mom-in-law is very nice, very southern. She loves it there, and I can see why. It's the main reason why we hesitate to move her to the west coast. She's still stage 4, progressing slowly, and still doing well in independent living. We're all still thinking that if/when she's ready for assisted living, that may be when we move her out here. She's 89 and still pretty healthy.

HB - It was incredibly lucky that we got to see the northern lights. I'm still thrilled by it. We were socked in last night so we saw nothing.

JeriLynn - that's a great pic. The red in that image is so vivid! Homemade bread - yum.

Judith - Shirley McLaine is always good, plus, that movie has an amazing cast.

Carl - so true about cats. 🙂 We don't have cats right now (but will in the future), and every time we have them, we know our place in the pecking order - last!

Iris - you're absolutely right about cats. They need a lot of attention, it's just a different kind than dogs. Cats like to play with you, hang out with you, and they'll talk to you. Our Balinese cats were downright chatty. I'm feeling for Adam.

I just got back from the gym a bit ago - hard workout. It was mostly cardio, stick fighting (escrima) and kickboxing. I definitely felt worked over (in a good way) when I walked out the door.

Right now I'm catching up on everything and listening to the Alan Parsons Project in the background - I, Robot. It's old, probably late '70s, kind of ambient prog rock.

Called about my car. They think it will be finished tomorrow afternoon. I asked about the rat and she said they have looked for it.but haven't found it. I have a couple of live traps, a scary looking trap and Tom cat waiting for.him. I hope we can figure out the live traps.

GG what kind of facility is it where your MIL lives? I was thinking this.morning how nice it would.be to live where everything is taken care of and done for you. But, that won't happen - I love the farm too much to leave unless I have to.

Lorita - She lives in a facility that is considered "continuing care." She has independent living, assisted living, memory care, and nursing care, should she need it. The big benefit is that she can stay there even though her care needs may change. I think the main difference from where she is to where most others are is that there are nursing care facilities on campus (I think of it as a campus - it kind of looks like one). I like her facility — if they had one in Washington or California, I'd move in!!

I saw this article on NPR this morning about foot exercises. They all seem like a good idea, but I confess, I've only done the calf raises, none of the others.

6 feel-good exercises to alleviate sore, achy feet

GG that sounds just like the place my BIL was in for a few months in Amarillo. He had an apartment with two bedrooms, could have his meals in the dining room or his apartment. It also had the other types of care if needed. It even had a pond or two on the campus. He moved back home but not too sure why - probably to be nearer his two daughters. They are within five minutes of his home. I believe there is another facility like that in Enid, Okla.

Thank you for the foot exercise link. I'm going to do those. Hopefully they will help my neuromas.

Doc Martin is on so will say good night.

My cousin was in a luxury independent living facility in Northern CA (Walnut Creek), not a continuing care facility. She had a two bedroom unit with a full kitchen, two bathrooms, in-unit washing machine and balcony. Amenities included two dining rooms for meals (sit-down service (not buffet) and weekly housekeeping.

There were four community centers with fitness rooms and arts and crafts and library, also indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, golf course, and a shuttle bus to go around the campus and to the shopping center off campus. All of this for $1800 per month in 2015, although she did have to buy her unit. I would love to live in a place like that myself.

Lorita, I only use an alarm when I have to get up for an appointment. Otherwise I sleep until my body says it's time to get up. Sometimes very early, sometimes very late. My circadian clock is not consistent, and I am very FRUSTRATED by this!

I'm getting ready for bed now. I don't seem to be able to keep a consistent bedtime either. That's why my awakening times are so erratic.

    Good night.

Good morning porchlings. And a very Happy Birthday to Carl.

@GothicGremlin Those sorts of lovely CCRCs are quite common where I live. There are very nice ones within 4 miles of my house; 3 of them are Quaker-affiliated and the 4th is a non-profit started by an endowment to care for the seniors of the area in honor of the donor's mother and run by the board of the town's Welfare Council. I dearly wish my mom had opted for this when she moved north. Her 55+ community has many of the same amenities, but smaller campus set-up and on-site preschools would have been a great fit.

Iris— I wonder if you'd sleep better if you did have a consistent wake-up time. It's what mom's pulmo/sleep specialist suggested to her when she reported her insomnia. He said that the sleep issue would likely resolve if she did this. Until recently she'd wake for a few hours at night, or sleep until 10am or 6am. She claims things are improving.

Early morning fasting blood draw this morning. I hate these and it was extra awful this morning because DH and I had a late lunch and skipped dinner and it was really cold out. I have a slew of tests to be drawn, but most need to be done closer to the end of December, so I just did the BMP the PCP wanted. I'm hoping I can do the pre-op and hematology blood draw at the same time as early morning treks to the lab are not my idea of a good time.

I want to go through my closets and release some unworn items into the wild. DS has been working on going through his "floordrobe" (ADHD term for piling things on horizontal surfaces) that can go into the bag as well. But first, another mug of tea and a shower.
