I love the beautiful colors in the sky every morning and evening. Besides the sky, God has created so much beauty all around us, all we have to do is open our eyes.
Wind is trying to blow me away this morning!
Ron

Very windy here, too Ron. The sunset pictures were beautiful, Sandy and JeriLynn. Our weatherman shower some pictures of the sunset in the Tulsa area that were similar to yours. It didn't look so red here, just pink and blue.
You're so right, Ron, only God could create all the beautiful things in nature and our wonderful world.

Hello
It is noon. Just had some white chili. It turned out good. Beth the chicken fritters are ok. I make them quite a bit.
Always enjoy pictures of the skies.
My nephew got his CDL yesterday. Now I hope he is blessed to find a job that works for him.
3 -
Good for him Mint. Hope he can find a good job. Does he still live with you? How do you make the white chili? I have seen recipes that use all kinds of beans. I would like to find a good vegetarian chili. Looks like you may be. getting a lot of snow and cold weather? Stay warm and be careful to not fall.
Very windy here today. Trying to trim Sherman's nails - not an easy task.
Made an appt. To get my covid shot tomorrow. Will get it at the health dept. If they have Pfizer, if.not will go to WM.

Vegetarian chili? Just leave the meat out.

Great job on the pink tree! The "before" picture looked ready for the trash bin, but the finished product is lovely.
Beth, thank you for the prayers. This is our first Christmas without Kathy, and our son wants me to put up a Christmas tree. I'll make him help decorate it if I do. Decorating a tree alone is a pretty gloomy prospect.
I make vegetarian chili by mixing cans: One can each of crushed tomatoes, Ro-Tel tomatoes, kernel corn, black beans, red beans, and great northern beans. Add chili spice to taste and eat chili every day until it's gone or freeze some. Some people add a can of chili, but that isn't vegetarian and doesn't taste as good.
WalMart sells Great Value beans in chili sauce that isn't bad. It contains pinto beans, dark red kidney beans, and black beans. It comes in a ring pull can so you don't even need a can opener. Not as good as my pantry cooking "recipe" above, but totally easy to prepare and a lot less left over.
Looks like some of you pulled an all-nighter last night. I slept right through it and missed the whole thing (and I am OK with that.) Hope you sleep well tonight.

Amy's vegetarian black bean chili is good but it costs about $4/can.

Thanks, May try that this winter.
I agree, Carl, decorating a tree Alone would not be fun. May not get my shot tomorrow. Lilly has to go to the vet. She is scratching like crazy and has bumps all around her neck. I hadn't held her in a while until today. Health Dept. Doesn't have Pfizer. Will call WM to see if they do. Would be a shame to be a mile away from town and not get vaccinated.

Lorita…don't you have a pharmacy or an Urgent Care that has shots???
0 -
One of our urgent cares closed but I think there is another. Didn't think about the pharmacy I use. WM's pharmacy is where I got it last year. I will call my pharmacy in the morning. I can park right in front so wouldn't have to leave Lilly in the car very long like I would have to at WM. Thanks for the reminder.

Guess I must be hungry because I just thought of something I used to like —white gravy with cornbread crumbled in it. Odd because I haven't eaten any kind of gravy for at least 40-50 years. No idea why I thought of that.
Another thing I liked was something daddy would fix for me when I was very young and sat beside him at the table-- buttered white bread sprinkled with sugar. I guess we all have odd sounding memories. I will be okay because I have a bottle of Boost freezing to eat with a knife later. Can't get anything except a knife in the bottle. With that I will say Good Night, sleep tight.

White bread with butter and sugar is really good if you add cinnamon and toast it on a griddle until it all melts together. Mom made that and called it cinnamon toast. I buy Braum's cinnamon nut bread and toast it in a toaster, then spread a little honey on it while it's hot. The honey melts into the toast, and it is heaven.
Don't think I ever tried cornbread with gravy. If I crumble cornbread, it's into a soupy bowl of brown beans.
Sleep tight, Lorita. I think I'll turn in as well.

Iris - I bought a package of those little mug hangers - they are super cute. I'm going to give them to a friend of mine.
The Trader Joe's that isn't close to me is close to a Cost Plus/World Market, so I stopped there as well, since I was in that neck of the woods. I picked up several packages of Biscoffs to give as gifts to people. I even picked up one for my trainer because he let it slip one day that he's partial to those. 😈
HB - My sister and I were not as careful with our Barbies as you were. Peggy's Barbies also had haircuts. I saw the trailer for the Barbie movie and immediately recognized which Barbie Kate McKinnon was supposed to be. 😄
I didn't know what the Silken Flame doll looked like so I looked her up. As soon as I saw her, I thought of one of the outfits my Skipper doll had (remember her?) It's the same color scheme but made for a child. Here's a link to the Skipper dress - you'll have to scroll down just a bit.
JeriLynn and Sandy - I'm going to live vicariously through your photos, which are both gorgeous. No sun for us in the PNW. We had a lot of wind and rain last night and today. I've got my candles and lanterns out and ready to go should we need them.
Carl - the first Christmas (or any anniversary date) is always the hardest. Take it slow.
I'm a big fan of cinnamon toast, even if I don't have it very often. My version is a seedy slice of wheat toast, with melted butter and cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on top.
Lorita - My dad used to do that - white bread and butter with sugar sprinkled on top. He had a sweet tooth!
With all of this talk of cornbread, I think I'm going to make some over the weekend. It sounds really good.

I'm glad you liked the mug cookies, GG.
Lorita, which one is Lilly? I hope she'll be okay.
Carl, I like your vegetarian chili recipe.
My Bunco luncheon was today, it was so nice.
Temp was about 80 today in SoCal.
Tomorrow I'm going on a Christmas Mystery Trip, I don't know where to.
Good night.

good morning
Lorita if you Google taste of home white chili, the recipe will pop up.I fried up some chicken just till it was no longer pink, then I added broth two cans of any bean, I used white beans. And I just added some dried onion, some oregano, some cumin, garlic powder, green chilis and a little onion powder. It called for sour cream and cream. But I did not use those instead. I used cream cheese. It was very good a little thick so the next time I’ll cut back on the cream cheese & I might add a little sour. no reason you could not make it without chicken. I was thinking it would be good with like potatoes, carrotd and broccoli in it. I might add some fine noodles or a little rice you could do about anything you want with the recipe.
I think I found some help with getting my mom on Medicaid hopefully. They were very knowledgeable and can tell they know how to do it. It is definitely not their first rodeo. I know I’ve heard people say area on agency was very beneficial . I found them very unhelpful. They told me I had to go to job and family services and I just did not want to do that. I felt like I’d be one unnoticed cow in the herd if you know what I mean, very thankful that I’ve found this person.
My mom won’t become medicaid eligible until toward the latter part of the year. We had applied for VA . They told us that she is on the cusp that we might not get it and it takes a year to find out. So that year is not up until I think either February or March. If we do get it, I know a lot of things they backpay so if they do that, it may be a little bit while longer before we would need Medicaid, but I’m not counting on that.
There is one other option. I kind of forgot about. I thought about this earlier because lady I helped was there and I knew she never had money to pay one month much less two years and so I assume they took Medicaid without a waiting period. They brought it back to my memory as an option if there’s no Medicaid bed available where mom‘s at.
there’s also a new AL home being built right now. It is huge. And the article I read said that they take Medicaid upfront if you are unable to pay. If you are able to pay then, of course you would have to but as soon as you become unable to pay anymore, they will get you switched over to Medicaid. So I drive by there every once in a while, and I will be checking it out whenever it’s available.I hope my mom can stay where she is because she’s very happy there. My mom will be 90 in July so there’s a possibility also that none of this will ever be needed. We could need it a few more years. No way to know that. But I know the one who knows that and he will help me through this.
Take care everyone

Good morning,
I hope I’m alive……….didn’t get up until a little after 4 this morning. I guess it reaches a point that your body says enough is enough.
I like cinnamon toast, white bread with butter and sugar and bow a hole biscuit. When you first take the biscuits out of the oven, bow a hole in the end, stuff butter and sugar in it.
Mint, VA does pay back pay on disability pay, I’m fairly familiar with VA programs; what did your mother file under for VA benefits?

Mint, I like your chili recipe too.

Morning.
Oh the power of suggestion. I've not thought about nor had cinnamon toast in years. Any guesses what I'm hungry for right now?
We saw the neck surgeon yesterday. He was pleased with DH's progress but I could tell he thought it should be somewhat better. He asked DH if he did his home program every day and DH honestly said no, I try but forget. The surgeon then looks at me and says "why aren't you helping him with this, its all we've got to keep him out of the operating room?" A million not nice comment immediately came to mind, but I said "I'm doing the absolute best I can do with our situation, I will add this task to the one million I do daily!" He then turns to DH and say you don't need help brushing your teeth, right? Put the band on the bathroom counter and after brushing your teeth do them - then they are done. Now that's only part of his 'home routine' but it was a good idea. I'll see if it works.
Looks like its going to be a beautiful day, then cold again. It's mid December, its suppose to be cold so I'll take it. Our trees still haven't dropped all of their leaves.
Off to make some cinnamon toast. I can't wait to hear where Iris's trip takes her. Let's be safe everyone.

I was too old for Barbie dolls but I still have a box of Story Book dolls. And just now I am reminded that a high school friend designed the American Girl dolls.
I learned from living in NM that chili did not have meat. If it had meat it was chili con carne.
Now I want some…with corn bread/honey.
Funny where your mind goes…yes?

Morning, trying to decide if I feel like taking Lilly and Max to the vet. When I got up I had, and still have, an awful backache and my legs hurt. Not sure I can take care of two carriers.
Iris, Lilly is the little female Darwin found living among big bales of hay in mid winter. He caught her and took her home but his cats did not accept her. They gave her to me and she and Max got married (love at first sight ) and had kids. I kept Sammy and the others went up north to new homes. Max is scratching, too., so he needs to go. It's chilly and really windy. I think I may reschedule.
Judith, my pharmacy isn't giving covid shots so will have to go to WM to get Pfizer. Health Dept. Has Moderna. I guess you can take that even if you have always had Pfizer.
0 -
A booster shot with the Moderna vaccine offered older people better protection against COVID-19 if they had previously taken Pfizer jabs, researchers at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) have found.
1 -
No open appts. appointments tomorrow so will try to go at 10 and be worked in. He is just too busy anymore. Covid shot will wait until next week. I'm not around people much anyway.
Mint, I so hope you can find a way to get help for your mother. I know how stressful this is for you. The recipe sounds good, thank you. You sound like me - Charles always said I never used a recipe without changing it in some way. He was right. I like to say that might the sign of an innovative cook.
Ron, the first year is hard for holidays and special days. Not sure I can say it gets a whole lot easier as time goes by. Some holidays and years are harder than others, for some reason. I know I have frozen brown beans - froze all I cooked last time. Bet I also have some frozen cornbread. Cinnamon toast - good idea. I used to make that often. I think I made a loaf of cinnamon bread once.
Just took another acetaminophen so hope it helps. I probably need a new mattress. I have been sleeping on Charles' side of the bed- no one sleeping there for almost eleven years, except Max. Would like to have a full sized bed instead of king.
Ron, that biscuit idea sounds goid. I used to make biscuits but haven't in a long time. Saw a recipe yesterday to make five of then in a skillet.

One of my friends used to bring canned biscuits on camping trips. He cooked them on a bed of coals with butter, sugar, and cinnamon to make cinnamon rolls.
Oatmeal is good with cinnamon, sugar, and butter too, as are sweet potatoes. The heel of my boot would probably taste good with that stuff on it, but I haven't tried it. 🤗
I went to the senior center and ate fish sandwiches, tater tots, and coleslaw for lunch today. Someone was handing out cans of Campbell's spicy tomato soup. It has cayenne pepper and paprika in it. I'll either eat spicy tomato soup this weekend when the temperature is expected to drop back into the teens or mix it with corn and beans for veggie chili.
One of the women I eat lunch with wants to go on the bus trip to Branson in January but doesn't have transportation to and from the senior center for the trip. She asked me if I'd take her home after the trip, and I agreed to do it. I have already seen the "World's Largest Toy Museum" but it will get me out of the house, and I wasn't raised to refuse a woman a ride home from a party.
It's 55 and partly sunny today. I'm going outside for a while and enjoy it. TTYL

At the VA outpatient clinic for another appointment. Care in the community appointments are beginning to happen. Neurology appointment, cardiology, pulmonary. Still waiting on neurosurgeon to call me back, they do have the paperwork from VA, but have do something before they can make appointment for me. They said enter it into a folder, which doesn’t make since to me, just get a folder and put it in.
C3/C4 has severe spinal stenosis with suppression of the cervical cord. So, to me I need a neurosurgeon opinion asap on options. Physical therapy didn’t help, shots didn’t help, so other than heavy drugs what’s my options. If surgery even possible with achalasia if the esophagus, copd and pulmonary fibrosis. I’m not as bad sitting around doing nothing, but just the drive here has me hurting like the dickings.
Carl, if one woman gets her hooks in you what will happen to the rest of your ladies. Guess I’ll have to hurry back!
Ron

That interesting , Judith, would be easier to just park in front of the health dept and walk in instead of finding a space in the big WM parking lot and walking a block. Just took Stormy for a ride around the reckon east of us. He seemed to really enjoy it. He is being very careful getting out of the car. Really hate to see him havimg. problems. Sheena is outside and doesn't want to come in. My.back and legs still hurt.or seem sore but seem better. Can't imagine what happened.
Ron, how far do you have to drive to the outpatient clinic? Hope.you can get an appointment soon.
Carl, you better be very careful. That lady may have an ulterior motive.

Y'all crack me up. I think we're good for one another. At least I know your good for me. I've learned so many things and for that I'm thankful.
I've played catch up on things all day. Only one more thing on my list and I'm just saying it can wait until tomorrow! I'm trying to pay a bill and the companies website has been down for several days.
After the cinnamon toast DH decided for his afternoon snack he wanted a cutup apple with cinnamon on it, some brown sugar and zapped in the microwave! Apparently my house is stuck on cinnamon.
Let's be careful everyone.
0 -
Let's be careful indeed, Eaglemom. There are flood warnings in the Pacific Northwest, and snow/ice warnings for several northern states.
I'll bet a handful of cinnamon thrown into the furnace would make the whole house smell like burnt cinnamon. Not sure that's a good idea though.
Ron, do hurry back. We have added another lady to the table since I saw you last, and we're having meatloaf tomorrow!
0 -
I remember the meatloaf sandwiches we would make from the meatloaf Charles made. We added sliced onion and mustard. So good. He was working as a chef when we.got married so he did a lot of cooking for us and I did the desserts. Talking about cinnamon-I put a little in my cream of wheat.
It was really nice here today except for the wind. A little cooler tomorrow, then much colder Sunday, then another warm up. Hope my.back is better tomorrow so I can get these two cats to the vet. Dread giving two cats pills, Iris.
Good night, sleep tight

Iris - I'm curious where you went for your Christmas Mystery Trip today.
Mint - I hope your mom gets to stay where she is, especially since she likes it there.
Lorita & Judith - I've heard the same about mixing covid vaccines, and I've done that myself. I think I've had every different kind there is. The last one I had was Pfizer, I think.
Carl - canned biscuits?
Meatloaf? Every time I think of meatloaf, I think of Meatloaf, the singer, and in particular, his role in Rocky Horror Picture Show. At a point in the movie, it is appropriate to yell at the screen, "meatloaf again??!!"
eaglemom - I know everyone here is good for me. I was just thinking today about how grateful I am for all of you, and the site in general.
Over here in the PNW we're dealing with flooding and weather. We almost lost power last night, but held on. We seem to be okay, flood-wise. We're on higher ground, but some of those places you're seeing on the news aren't that far away from us. Fall City and Carnation are each about 20 min. away. Today it was dark, dark, dark. One of those early winter days where you just want to sleep all day.
Of course I didn't do that. 🙂 I went to the gym for a cardio heavy workout. We did escrima almost the whole time. I don't know why I like stick fighting so much, but I do. Maybe it's because it can be so graceful? My trainer put on the goth radio station for the workout and I was surprised how well some of the old goth rock songs go with escrima. One of the songs that's still stuck in my head is So Alive by Love & Rockets. It's from the '80s, and sounds like it's from the '80s. It's one of the softer new wave songs. I'm still humming along.

Chili con carne—that's right!
I had a very nice Chrustmas Mystery Trip today. I'm tired now, since I got up at 5:30 am, so I'll tell about the trip tomorrow.
