Just need to talk to my friends (213)

Good morning
Another bad night, the drive to Springfield and back has brought out more aches and pains. I wish for just one day to be able to go out dancing again. Don’t know if I would fit into the songs that say “I don’t need no rocking chair “ or “I’m getting to old to cut the mustard anymore”.
What I really miss is talking to my friends here about baking my Christmas cookies, baking Lou a cake and especially dancing with Lou and seeing her smile.

Lorita— What Judith said.
I got Moderna as my 4th booster after Pfizer. I avoided COVID when mom, DH and DS all came down with it. Since I assumed I had already contracted it for driving mom around, hanging out with DS and sharing a bed with DH.
I used to favor the Dept. of Health for flu shots. It was so quick and convenient. And painless— the gave a good jab. One year about 15 years ago they did an epidemic drive-thru drill where you didn't even get out of the car.
Eaglemom— I want to throat-punch that surgeon on your behalf.
Carl— I don't know about tossing cinnamon in the furnace, but you can simmer it on the stove in a pot of water. That's an old realtor trick.
Ron— That's such a nice picture of the two of you. I do hope there's something that can be done for your pain. That's no way to live.
Gothic G— Ah, Rocky Horror. Those were grand days. I remember heading into the city with a stash of TP for the midnight showing on South Street. Speaking of which, my bestie who babysits her grand-twins twice a week broke out the soundtrack and did the Time Warp for them. It got a belly laugh out of the boy; his sister was not amused.
Iris— Did you sign an NDA or can you tell us where your trip was?
____________________________________________________________________________
I did a little online Christmas shopping yesterday, made a trip to IKEA and will take mom out to shop today. She's hell-bent on catching the 50% off sale at Talbots whether I want that or not.
I also stopped by bestie's house to visit and see the grands. They're filling out at 5 months. The boy is quite the chonk.
I hope all have a pleasant day.

good morning.
Ron, I’m not sure, but I think it’s just called spousal benefits.
I may have had cinnamon sugar toast when I was a kid, but I’m not sure it does sound good but I think I won’t go there.
Lorita I hope you are feeling better today.
That’s a nice picture Ron.
I think I’ve told you Lorita, I have had Pfizer Moderna and Novavax
take care

Got back from the vet about an hour ago. Had to be worked in but it didn't take long. He is fast, but thorough. Max and Lily got allergy shots and they had fleas so got Braveto to put on today at home. They both have Prednisone to be given daily. Dread that neither one likes it so will crush it, dissolve in a couple of drops of water and hope I can get it down them.
Got probiotics, pain medicine and Dura Flex for the Pyrenees. He will come out and given them allergy shots, then they will get e.Prednisone daily. All of that came to $333. People come to him from other States so his reputation is good. He told me an easier way to help get Sheena up so it won't hurt my back as much.. I am worn out!! Lots of cute small dogs there. One little gray poodle was shaking because me knew were he was.
Darwin has an eye appointment at 2 and he dreads it. He had the same thing done a few months ago. The best I understand is they give him an ocular injection. He doesn't know his diagnosis or doesn't remember. HB, it may be the same thing your mother has. What is her diagnosis? Travel time is about two hours each way so it will be a long afternoon for him.
Going to be a really cold few days so will get my covid shot next week.Would prefer Pfizer but will get what is available. Good to know you all have mixed vaccines without a problem.
Iris, anxious to know about your mystery trip.
GG, your workouts sound very tiring to me. Years ago I dud half an hour of exercises along with the TV every day before I went to work and I felt much better. I should do that again. I know there is at least one everyday. Back later.

Yikes…Lorita you are are an advertisement for not living in the county. Lifting and carrying/ fleas, guns, no close medical help, bad to no TV reception, snakes, no mail delivery to front porch, can not get repair people or any other help, impassable roads, fleas and deliveries left 1/4 mile from the house….Too hard for me!

Ron, I know how you feel. I woke at 3 AM hearing Kathy calling me from the next room. Dreams can be pretty realistic.
I learned Monday that the senior center recreation specialist who teaches chair chi and runs the bus tours likes to embroider. She had traced her children's hands on cloth and was embroidering their names and ages during the bus ride. I am giving her Kathy's collection of embroidery hoops and accessories. She is planning to start an embroidery club and is glad to have them.

Good afternoon. I'm up! I slept 8 hours last night.
Carl and Mint, thanks for the chili recipes. I can use them.
Lorita, if you would like the texture of meat without the meat, you could use seitan, which are vegetarian crumbles that look and feel like ground beef. They dont have much flavor so you have to season them up, but in a veggie chili they will have flavor. You might be able to find veggie crumbles at Walmart.
Ron, I'm sorry you had a bad night. I hope you can get in to see the neurosurgeon soon and get get some relief!
GG, isn't CostPlus nice? They have nice inexpensive gifts. I hope you aren't affected by flooding.
Eaglemom, is DH's neck pain affected by his pillow? My neck hurts terribly on some mornings, and I believe it's from my pillow being too flat. A new pillow is on my To Do list for the new year. I still have a lot on my To Do list for the few remaining days of this year, so a new pillow will have to wait.
Judith, I read a long time ago if you have had Covid to wait 90 days before getting a vaccine. Did you read that also?
Lorita, vet bills seem to be more expensive than doctor bills! I hope Lilly and Max get good responses to their treatments. I have been able to get Adam's prednisone into him in his food for a few days, and so far, he seems to be improving. At least he has not vomited in a few days and he is accepting more food.
Carl, your damsel in distress needs a ride to Branson? Be careful if she comes along with a box of cookies or sandwiches. 🙂
The sunset photos are lovely. Here the sunset was just okay, nothing special.
The Christmas Mystery Trip was do popular that a second bus was commissioned, so we had 90 people attending. We started off by visiting the Hilton Hotel in Costa Mesa where we had a DIY cookie decorating activity accompanied by hot chocolate with marshmallows. Then we drove to Burbank to the Smoke House, a long-time steak restaurant close to Warner Brothers Studios. We had an excellent buffet luncheon of brisket and chicken marsala, with salad, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables (broccoli, carrots and green beans), pasta salad and carrot cake for dessert. The food was tasty, not salty and not greasy. Many restaurants serve greasy food, even in trendy LA, so I was pleasantly surprised and pleased. If anyone visits the LA/Burbank area, I can highly recommend this restaurant.
The next stop was truly unexpected. We visited the Bob Baker Marionette Theater in LA for their Winter Wonderland Show. The whole show was of singing and dancing puppets that were so full of expression and movement, seemingly life-like! It was truly enchanting! Here are some photos.
Trees on skis
These little pups "woofed" Jingle Bells
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Rudolph and Santa
These photos don't do the puppets justice, because they are remarkable moving. The puppet masters could match lip movement to speech and create facial expressions with eyelashes and lips. The could walk, run, dance and ski.
Bob Baker created puppets for many movies, including the aliens at the end of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Visiting thus theater would be a treat for all, including children and seniors.

That was a great trip, Iris. The puppet with donkey looks like he is singing "Feliz Navidad!"
I'm glad to share my pantry cooking recipes. We're expecting cold weather this weekend and I plan to make some veggie chili. It will be "chili con maiz y frijoles" because I will put corn and beans in it.
It's only nine days until the winter solstice and only 13 days until Christmas. Countdown!

Hello Front Porch Friends.
Lorita and GG, thank you for asking about me. My DD and SIL and myself have been pretty sick with the flu we were all running fevers of 102 and slept most of 2 weeks. I had to go meet my new Boise doctor yesterday to get my meds refilled. The doctor told me with a temp of 102 I should have been in ER. I will remember that next time. We're all feel better now, I still have a cough. She also said elders with temps that high, could have seizures.
I have been keeping up with all Your post, and enjoying all the pictures.
Lots of cold weather here. It makes me miss Arizona, a tiny bit.
Your all in my daily prayers, Hugs Zetta

I finally have an appointment with a neurosurgeon. After the phone call, I noticed it’s the same day as yesterday pulmonologist. Shouldn’t be a problem, in fact save me an extra trip since they are just one building apart from each other. The pulmonologist is 9:00am and Neurosurgeon is 11:45am in February 3rd. I wish it was sooner, but at least I’ll have a appointment. I was told by my nurse that getting in to see a specialist takes awhile here, she had one patient had to wait 6 months.
Carl, at first I was a little worried about your friend wanting a ride, but I remembered cars aren’t like the old days. Back when, you didn’t have a separation between the passenger and driver, so at least we wouldn’t have to worry about her snuggling up to you and taking unfair advantage while your driving.Ron

Ron, I remember those cars with bench seats. I learned in a '58 Ford that, when a woman scoots over to left of center as soon as she gets in the car, she's not there just for transportation.
One of the other senior ladies has taken an interest in my appearance. She was picking grey hairs off my shoulder the other day and today was brushing cake crumbs off my thigh while sitting next to me at lunch. You need to get better soon. I need backup or protection or something. 😳

Zetta, glad you all Are recoverimg. Was it the flu or pneumonia?mine very careful until you are fully recovered. So good to hear from you.
Ron, glad you got your appointments and great they are close together and on the same day.
Carl, chili sounds good. I think I will Make soup for the weekend. Sounds IIke it's going to be really cold for a few days.
Love you, Judith, I bet you would enjoy living in the county - no noise except cattle bawling and wolves and coyotes howling. Maybe the sound of a truck horn honking for cattle to come to feed. It's just what a person is used to. I would not want to live in town at all. I would. be terrified and claustrophobic at the same time. I need to.be able to look out at ponds and cattle grazing- in green pastures -no cars or people. I have lived in town about two years with those two years spread out over 65 or 70 years of my lIfe. I hope I never have to leave the country. I think most people who live in the country feel The same way. I understand the convenience of Iiving in town and that is great for those people who need that and are used to it. I might feel that need if I had been born in town, probably would. It is differences that make the world go around.
Carl, I learned to drive on a tractor just like most county kids. Also remember the bench seats and sitting in the middle next to someone. Parking would be difficult with a console. Ron, you better get better and rescue Carl.
Going to watch Rachel and go to bed. Sleep well - goid night.

Zetta, I'm glad you're recovering from influenza, it can be dangerous. Feel better soon!
It's time for bed. Good night.

Carl, I might try going back to the center one day next week. Sitting around all day might be surprising my pain some, but it sure isn’t helping my mental well being. I’ll try holding off on pain meds some morning till I go to the center, I’m worried about you with that many women. You know your not a spring chicken anymore!

Zetta I am glad you are feeling better.

Lorita and Judith i enjoy your banter.

It's snowing again! 2 Saturdays ago we had 9". Last Saturday 3". This Thursday 1". Now (Saturday) we are getting more. The snow has ruined some plans. I don't drive in it if I don't have to. 2 Sundays ago, church was cancelled. Last week we didn't go. Thursday I was supposed to go to a Christmas luncheon but didn't. Today I am supposed to lay wreaths on Veteran's graves for Wreaths across America. Not sure if I'll make it or not.
Zetta, I'm sorry you have been so sick. I'm glad you are on the mend.
Iris, the puppets are fantastic! Glad you got to go.
Stay safe everyone.

Morning, looks cloudy here and it is cold. Going to be much colder later today. Lots of Christmas parades so they will be cold marching.
Ron and Zetta, take it easy and don't overdo. Ron, it sounds like Carl might need help with all those ladies.
I dread getting up and trying to get the Prednisone down the cats. Iris, did you say the Prednisone doesn't taste bitter? Maybe I could crush it and mix it in a bit of food instead of liquifying it..
Better check in on Darwin. He was hurting last night and hasn't called yet

@Lorita
My son's cat took his prednisone crushed and mixed with a tablespoon of Gerber strained chicken baby food. Much easier than wrestling with him.0 -
Good idea. Don't have baby food but will order some. Thanks, HB. Just fed birds. Need to get more bird feed, too. Going to be uber cold until Tuesday so won't bring someone out to deliver in that cold. Girls are going down to graze.

Mint…lorita and I have been friends her for probably 12 years. We have been through a lot together and have a strong bond.
That said, my street is uber quiet and my back yard totally private. Most of our lots are close to an acre. If two neighbors are visiting our front everyone who goes by to find out what is going on.
Ken Burns has a documentary on Leonardo de Vinci. Looking forward to watching.
Here is a "sweet/short/user friendly" Greek architecture lesson to watch

Weather here will be glorious for a week.

After a week of 70-80 degree weather, I woke up to fog and cool weather.
Lorita, I try to get the crushed meds into Adam via his food, but I sometimes put the evening med into his treat because he sometimes picky about his dinner, but he will eat the treat. I use these Delectables sticks.
They are sold individually and also come in a box of 20.
There are several brands of sticks but these sre most often in supermarkets. Do you have a pill crusher?
Adam vomited a few hairballs during the night. I have to be more diligent about grooming him or maybe taking him to be shaved all over.

I have a couple, Iris.. Couldn't find the one I like this morning so used a couple of spoons with a couple of drops of warm water! I just found it so I crush the pill with a little water then suck it up in a syringe. It is still hard to give. They seem to know what I'm doing and hide.
Got two kinds of pain meds for the GPs , a stronger one for Stormy. I wrap them in cheese but I think they know. I have all kinds of dog and cat meds jus like I used to have.things for the calves. Even found some flea meds for.cats. Wish I had known that because the kind I got yesterday was $55 each.
Do you use Catalax for hairballs? My cats have pretty short hair so not much trouble with hairballs-yet. I have tried the cat soup in IIttle bowls and the kind.you showed.pictures of so will order some-anything to help.
I just found a tray of chocolate marble.brioche I had frozen. It is so good. I have a recipe for brioche in the breadmachine so should try that.
Judith is so right-we lost our husbands just a few months apart almost eleven years ago. She went to doctor's appointments with Sarah and did other things to help with Sarah and my sister. Our friendship is strong and very important to me.
Better go and take down the trash because it will be too cold tomorrow.

It's in the low 30s and feels like 23. It will be just above zero WC in the morning. Beth, do you have a lot of snow?
Going to get ready for bed and watch tv a while. Good night sleep tight.

We do have a lot of snow. Some melted Wednesday, which was a nice warm day. Snow totals this season so far are approximately 17", which is more than we had all of the '24-'25 winter season.

It’s 21 here feels like 8, suppose to be down to 11 by morning. I believe that a good book and bed sounds like a plan for this Louisiana boy. According to my son I haven’t seen anything yet, just wait till it gets cold.

The wind is really.blowing hard and that makes it worse. The GPs went out and Sheena didn't want to come in so I.went out after her-didn't stay long. Feel sorry for anyone who has to be out in this.
Just took a loaf of.bread out of the bread maker-smells so good. Everyone stay inside tonight. Will leave the water running a little so It hopefully won't freeze. Ron, do the same. Good night again.

I feel bad for you all in the freezing cold. I also feel bad for me. It's mid-December and we've only had a few days below 60. It's hard to feel like Christmas when you're out in your shirt sleeves.
