Good afternoon all.
HB I'm so sorry for what you DS is having to deal with. That's tough to understand. Just keep him talking about his friend or frankly anything. Sometimes its just hard to explain life.
Lorita that was scary for you for sure. That does sound like a seizure. He'll sleep quite a bit today and possibly tomorrow. Make sure he moves about some and drives some water. In the mean time, don't hurt yourself helping him!
Good news Iris on your numbers. Good work.
On a positive note, the lung specialist has really helped DH. This morning DH had a pulmonary function test. I didn't go back with him, but when he came out he said it was much much more detailed than any he's had before. He's off 3 inhalers he took twice daily and has done remarkable. Now I'm wondering if he's not been misdiagnosed all along. I think the asthma medications were causing some of his issues. Now that he's on one COPD med he rarely coughs. or wheezes. We'll see what these test results reveal.
I've told him I'd get some cookies going today. So I'm off to the kitchen to create a big oh mess and have some fun. Have any of you tried the cranberries and powered sugar? I'll be making batch number 3 of that today - yummy.
Let's be safe everyone.

Good morning. I got nine hours of sleep.
Ron, I thought I had Alzheimer's because I had bad short term memory loss and word finding, also I couldn't read anything because I couldn't remember what I had just read. My MRI showed hyperintensities which as HB stated are due to cardiovascular changes. Well, after some medication, treatment for sleep apnea and a lot of other work, my short term memory is improved, my speech and word finding are improved, and I can read entire books and remember what I have read. I am certainly not like I was in my 20s or even in my 50s, but I am satisfied with where I am today. I say all of this to say, don't give up. You have been through a lot and you have medical issues. Get the doctors to work on your medical issues and balance. Be especially aware of your blood pressure if it is elevated. Work on diet and exercise, such as walking. Lower your salt intake. I know you Soutnerners like your salt.
Keep stress out of your life, especially rogue roosters! You might think about some spa treatments. I'm serious. You need intensive R&R to recover from your past few years. Watch some nice movies and enjoy your countryside.
One cannot diagnosis dementia until there is a decline over time. Give yourself time. In the meantime, take care of yourself! We'll help you!

Good morning porch friends.
Lorita . I'm so sorry to hear about Stormy having a seizure this morning. I'm glad you were there with him too help him through it. We are all our fur babies have.
No iris, your not too sentimental. Years ago I had a pet lamb named Rambo, since then i cant eat lamb. So its best I don't have a chicken, pig or a cow for a pet. It's good your taking better care of self, I'm trying but things always seem hard at times. You only living 25 miles from Beverly Hills, you probably see celebrities often
Ron . I agree with your care giving ideas, with us all knowing the challenges of a caregiver. That is something I would not want my family to have to deal with. They all know my wishes. You sound like you take good care of yourself. We are all forgetful at times. You need to start hanging around with Carl and away from them roosters. Good luck with your doctors appointment.
Carl its good you had some trees removed. With all the wind we were having yesterday in Bosie, the trees were really getting a workout. Now I'm missing the Arizona weather.
HB. I hope today is a better day for you, sorry to hear about your DS,s friend passing away, 20 seems to be way too young to pass away in your sleep. Sounds like that dinner place owes you a dinner. I do hope you enjoyed your dinner at the other place.
Your all in my thoughts, Happy Holidays. Hugs Zetta

Lorita…Luke had seizures. Our vet was always called afterwards would always book an appt. No apparent cause ever found. We were advised to leave his body alone during an event…especially not to go near his head. What does Mike have to say.
I found this for you:

Luke had seizures. This is the info I have:
I did always talked to him but stayed clear as advised by our vet. I saved touches until the seizure was completely over.

Thanks, Judith for the link. I will be seeing or talking to Mike in the next couple of days. The last time Stormy had a seizure was in the clinic. One of the girls kept her hand on his head so he wouldn't hit it on the floor so that is what I did along with talking to him to let me know I was with him. I did ask Mike about phenobarbital and he said not unless he has them more often.. We had a poodle who had them and I gave him pheno. every night. I remember you telling us that Luke had a seizure on your stairs and you sat with him to keep him from falling down the stairs.
Eagle, he has slept quite a bit today but has been outside some too. Getting ready to feed them but no pain med today. He seems back to normal just like Jellybeene did after his seizures. Both of them are older-Sheena almost 12 and Stormy almost 11.Mike says the lifespan of these big dogs is about nine years. I talked to him about another puppy but he thinks they wouldn't adjust well to one since they are older. I wonder if me.being gone yesterday contributed to this. He has to know where I am all the time. if I get up he raises his head and watches til I sit down or he comes and finds me. I know I can:t keep them forever but I wish I could.
JeriLynn, will you be watching when Alabama and Oklahoma play football tonight in Norman?

Lorita…good memory. It was on the stairs and I remember about your poodle. You really helped me through what Luke was going through. Was it a million years ago???
Did Mike say no Meloxacam or reduced dose?

When I got their medicine I didn't remember Stormy taking that one so he said to give either that or the one Sheena takes that.is not as strong. That is what I.gave him until I got this. It seems that long ago, doesn't it? He ate well. Tomorrow is only walk-ins at the clinic. Only open til noon. Almost got Prednisone in my eye when I.gave Lilly hers
Forgot to say-- BOOMER! SOONER!

We had a holiday dinner at the senior center today, and the recently widowed man I mentioned the other day was there. I invited him to join me at the monthly men's breakfast for widowers run by hospice, but he eats breakfast with his girlfriend every morning and has plans to cook dinner for her. When I got him alone, I learned he wasn't as depressed as he seemed, just shy at a table full of women. I think I can quit worrying about him and go back to worrying about Ron. Ron, have you thought about wearing spurs on your boots when you herd the chickens? That might impress those roosters! 🐓

Carl, when you said “girlfriend” I knew he wasn’t griefing bad enough to hurt himself. I think when we get past Christmas I’m going to try coming to the center again. I’m about to go stir crazy and recently my Dr told me I could do as much as I’m able to tolerate.
I had a terrible night last night! Woke up right before midnight vomiting nothing but liquid and just a mouth full. This kept going on and I would sit up for awhile, get better and lay back down. As soon as I’m in bed flat on my back it starts again. I finally got up and stayed up! Took my blood pressure which was 158/90, rested and took it again 148/88. Blood pressure finally got to normally, but later today it was high again.
My regurgitation and blood pressure is ok now so maybe I can sleep tonight.

Ron, that does sound terrible! I sleep in a recliner sometimes, just kicked back in my clothes with a lap robe pulled up to my chin. Maybe if you don't lie flat you'll do better. We're praying for you.

I agree….sitting up might help. Or maybe come out to the rocking chairs…one of us might already be there.
0 -
Yes, Ron, you would probably do better sleeping a bit on an incline. I hope you're sleeping better tonight.
Lorita, poor Stormy! It's so hard when our pets get old and have difficulties and we can't do too much for them.
HB, I'm so sorry to learn of DS's friend passing away so young. What a tragedy and a shock! Will DS attend the funeral?
Zetta, I never see any celebrities! They live behind gated communities anyway.

Lorita, Sooners were ahead when I went to bed and DH was pulling for them to beat Bama! He says Alabama doesn’t deserve to be in the playoffs and he was disappointed to wake up to their win

Morning, looks like another windy day on tap but should.be warm. JeriLynn, OU started out so well.. Don't know what went wrong. Did you see that reception by Alabama where the guy reached.over the OU player and caught the ball on his back? What a catch. Oh, well There is always next year. It was so noisy. Bet there were a lot of headaches last night .
Fed the birds and cats and would like to feed Billy but all the girls are around, so can't right now. Stormy and Sheena slept well and are out in the sun. Iris we have lost so many of our pets over the years and it is so hard. Guess I better stop and give those cats their Prednisone -three more to go!

Morning , ladies and Ron . Hope the weather is.nice for all of you.
I have been suspecting this for a while. When I would call Sheena, she would come the same route each time or might wander a little. She has been outside all morning so I went out on the porch and called her. She was laying down and looked like she might be having trouble getting up. I went to her, got hold of her collar and she got up. She had fallen backwards a couple of ones coming up the steps so I hold onto her collar to steady her.
We came in and I brushed her and.looked at her eyes She has ripe cataracts. Her eyes are grayish - have always been amber until now. This has happened rapidly. We have had other dogs with cataracts and she will be okay-I will take care of her. Cataracts, weak back legs, Allergies, hip dysplasia and we are all getting older. At least we are together and the sun is shining and there are our friends on our thread so there are things to be thankful for. We will be all right.
I am a bit worried about Darwin. He thinks he has had a little stroke. He seems okay to me.but his memory is so bad. He thinks it happened yesterday.but it was Tuesday morning. I don't think he has told his daughters..
Going to stop and go to the mailbox. Stormy will go with me.

Lorita, I’m don’t know if you remember me talking about our Shih Tzu that was 18 when he passed. He left me just a few months before Lou and if there would have been anything I could have done to keep him with me pain free, I would have. I know your Sheena is just like family just the way my Littlebit was to me.
Ron

I do remember Ron, and how hard it was for you to lose Littlebit. They do become family. I Lost our Shih Tzu, Barclee a couple of years ago. Shih Tzus are sweet and very smart.
Stormy and I took a drive around the section north of us. We stopped and talked to cows about their babies- Lots of little ones right now. We passed a grove of trees that must be a roosting place for crows.and they were there and.very noisy. Have you ever heard if you split their tongues they can talk? I wonder if that is true.
Time.for local news so I will stop and say good night.

HB - I'm so sorry to hear about your DS's friend. It sounds like it was out of the blue, which at 20, probably makes it even more difficult to come to terms with.
Lorita - How is Stormy today? That seizure sounds very scary.
Do vets take care of cataracts in dogs in a similar was as humans, or do dogs just live with them?
Zetta - I think Idaho would be too cold for me. 🙂 Some very pretty places there though. We've also been having wind storms - I'm not a fan.
Iris - I haven't seen many celebrities either. I do remember standing behind George Clooney in a short line at a fancy restaurant near Beverly Hills. This was years ago, probably in the late '90s. And then literally walking into Stephen King at a book signing. That's about it for me.
Ron - My dad slept in a recliner for years. It really helped him out. He mostly had back problems (fairly severe), but he also had similar issues as you.
Hi Beth, JeriLynn, Carl, eaglemom, and Mint - Hope you're all well.
On my end of porch it's 38 degrees, dark (even though it's daytime), and raining - par for the course. 😄
I was up last night until around 3:30am - I didn't get off the phone with Karyn until almost 2:30. But it was good, we made plans for the rest of the unedited blog posts. And I finally convinced her that we should have a short paragraph about her in the "about" page. I just want to make sure she gets credit for this.
We didn't get up until almost noon today - which is pretty much my perfect schedule. Then we made enchiladas (no cheese for me) for lunch. So spicy, so good.
We're getting ready to go play a board game and then I'll move on to some editing.
I hope everyone has a good night!

Winter solstice tomorrow! The 🌞 is coming back north!
2 -
GG, I heard about that gruesome story as being in New York, I hoped it was an urban myth.
I had two cats that went blind, the vet never said if it was due to cataracts.
Solstice tomorrow, yea!
Good night.

Hi Ron, can't you sleep? I let the GPs out over an hour ago and.now I'm wide awake. Nothing much on tv right now. Both of them are sleeping and the cats are asleep. All I hear is a clock ticking. Hate it when this happens. Both of them had to have a drink so may start bringing their water pan in here at night.
Be careful if you let the chickens out in the morning. How many are there? Going to try to get back to sleep. Good.night.
