Hello, this is so heart breaking. My mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s about 5 years ago. She is 70. This terrible disease has her 6/7 stage. We have decided to be her caregivers. My 2nd dad and mom bought a huge home with my husband and 2 kids. We came together to take care of her. Sadly it is in the aggression stage. She hits, pinches, cusses us. I have never heard my mom cuss. She is very agitated when it’s time for bathroom and showers. This is been so hard on all of us.

My mom just entered stage 6, so that has not been an issue for me. I am dreading the day when it comes.

Welcome. So sorry about your Mom. Agitation and aggression is common in dementia especially in late stages when time for showers or for diaper changes and cleanup. Is she on anti psychotic medications? If not I would speak to her doctor. Read the book “The 36 Hour Day” which talked about the many reasons people with dementia don’t want to shower. Also search online for dementia caregiving videos by Tam Cummings or Teepa Snow. I saw one video about showering and it suggested making it a spa day, shower, nails painted, etc. she said it worked. Put a seat in the shower, hand held wand, warm not hot water, bathroom warm, towel warmer, are things that might help.
