So Frustrating
This is one part of this terrible disease that just frustrates me so much. How can you have a great day with your LO in a great mood enjoying each other and all of a sudden they just start crying uncontrollably for no reason in my mind what may have caused the change.

Sometimes the emotional control part of their brain is affected. Just as I may hear something that reminds me of a certain song, or even smell something that takes me back, they may have some thought that makes them sad—no relation to what's going on at the time—but without the emotional regulation part of their brain working it can just wash over them.

Maybe she was feeling sorrow for what has been lost. I'm feeling that right now. Just an almost unbearable heaviness. Maybe she feels it and doesn't have the regulation to control the tears. It's so hard to control the tears when we have our sensibilities… I can't imagine what it's like when the brain is not working like it should.

Also Uncontrollable crying in dementia, often due to Pseudobulbar Affect (PBA), involves sudden, intense emotional outbursts (laughing or crying) disconnected from actual feelings, caused by brain changes from conditions like Alzheimer's. It can also signal pain, fear, depression, or feeling overwhelmed, as cognitive decline hinders communication of needs, making caregivers look for physical discomfort or emotional triggers like noise, confusion, or unmet needs, with strategies involving reassurance, distraction, and medical evaluation. There are medications that might help. Ask her doctor.

Just one thought can change a whole day. It’s an up and down disease. My wife started crying herself to sleep 2 weeks ago because she thinks I don’t love her anymore. That I’m just a caregiver with no love attached. I do everything for her. She’s mostly happy during the day. Then at bed time it all changes.

My DH was in stage 6 when he started crying. I asked him what was wrong, why was he crying. He said he didn't know and couldn't help it. I spoke to the Dr. about it and he prescribed Lexapro which helped tremendously. No more tears.
