Just need to talk to my friends (215)
Happy February! I'm glad January is over. Maybe February will be a better month for weather and everything else. Only six more weeks until Spring. Almost time to order caladiums. Hopefully, the daffodils are okay after the freezing weather we have had this past week.

All this talk of hamburgers over the last couple of days made me want to have one - so we made burgers today! My s.o. made a regular cheeseburger for himself, with lettuce, tomato, and avocado. Mine was an impossible burger (so plant-based), with everything he had except no cheese and lots and lots of mustard. It was all pretty good. Tonight we're having salad. 🙂
Temps today were in the 50s! I was shocked, but over in Charleston where my mom-in-law is, it was snowing and in the 20s. The wind was making it feel like 11 degrees. Man, that's cold for Charleston. It also made me glad she's in a facility and not on her own.
Hopefully Feb. will bring better weather for all of us.
I'm like you, Lorita - only six more weeks until spring. I'm counting the days.

Lorita, those daffodils will be fine. They are tougher than they look. I have some daffodils that have been in our family since 1962, and the only care they ever got was when I dug them up to move them to my yard about 15 years ago. They are sleeping under a foot of snow right now, and I'm not worried a bit. 🌾

Is it February already? My, how time flies!

Good morning. Is it just me or did January seem 43 weeks long? Seriously, it's been one cold, dark and unpleasant slog. On to February with tomorrow, Groundhog Day, being the "hump day' of winter.
All this talk of burgers. I'm glad you had a decent burger at Buffalo Wild Wings. I'm with you, Ron, I don't get the appeal of wings— too much anatomy to get through for meager pay-off, IMO.
Lorita, few places smell as heavenly as a BK but I find their food repeats so it's not for me. They do have Impossible Burgers though. I agree with Carl, the daffodils will be fine. If they're not already in full bloom, you'll likely get your usual display out of them at the usual time. They're remarkably hardy.
Gothic G It's got to be a relief that your MIL is in a safe place with others to tackle the storm. It looks like my BIL in Dirty Myrtle got 6 1/2". He grew up in the Indiana, so he is familiar with snow but his southern belle wife and dogs are probably losing their minds about now. Neither of them is fit enough to clear snow and I suspect they don't own a shovel, but it'll be in the low 50s in a couple days so they'll be thawed out fairly soon.
I'm engaging the boys in some housecleaning today. They hate this, but they've been warned. Tonight, we're meeting friends for Thai food. I'm looking forward to not cooking.
I hope all have a pleasant day.

Morning I have been awake since 5. Sheena was restless, wanting out so couldn't get back to sleep Now she is panting and won' ea. She is getting thinner every day.
HB I know your mother gets eye injections and now Darwin is having to have them. He doesn't know his diagnosis but I think it must be Macular Degeneration- is that what your mother has? He had an injection Friday and has to go back in two months. He says they hurt like the dickens.
Have fun, JeriLynn. Hope you're going to South Texas.
Cold and sunny here but up to 35 so it will be a little warmer. Did.not run water for the.girls so hope the ice on the pond melts soon. I think this is feed day so maybe they will cut the ice. Also have to get the trash down today. They didn't run Last week so there is plenty. How can one old lady have so much trash-part of it is cat and dog food cans-my excuse.

JL…wondering if you were on your way. Port Aransas or did I make that up.
Barely any snow out my window…now it is 35 degrees. Time to get out the beach chairs?
Sister report…..she is progressing in the right direction but slowly. Younger niece is ready to throw her sister under the bus…lol. I told her to call me any time, day or night, to talk.
A gold star to those of us who made it through this storm and a gold star to those who listened and cared about those of us snowed/iced in. We are truly good friends. Good friends who have never…will never meet.
A hug filled with thanks!

Yes Judith, Port Aransas then San Antonio next week for the Rodeo.

@Lorita
Eye injections are given for 2 types of macular degeneration— wet AMD and dry AMD/Geographic Atrophy. Mom had the latter which is treated with eye injections every 8 weeks. My aunt's AMD has progressed to "wet". Wet is considered more severe, but her vision of late is pretty terrible and seems as poor as my aunt's.
My mom claims her injections don't hurt per se, but that there is a feeling of pressure immediately and they can feel irritated/gritty for a day or so. Her doc does use numbing drops twice before the injections. That's said, mom has a weirdly high pain threshold compared to most mortal— she's not wired like most of us.

HB, good luck with your surgery! Keep us posted when you feel able.

Thanks HB, it sounds like Darwin has Macular degeneration with injections every two months. I sure the doctor does e numbing before the injection and he gave him drops to put in at home. My.mother had a mild case.but only m took Preservision. Carol takes that and I have started taking it.
I just talked with Mike about Sheena to see if he could do anything to help. He said it could be some underlying problem but she had blood work when she was there a while back and it was normal. She eats very little and is so thin. She had lost over ten pounds when we was there. He said twelve is very old for Great Pyrenees and sounds like she has given up. I help her get up and she walks very slowly and carefully. I have to help her get up the steps. When she lays down her back legs lay straight along her sides toward her head. I bend them back and that helps.her want to get up. I don't want to aggravate her trying to get her in the car and to the vet if it won't help- just want her to be comfortable and happy at home.
Just read Beth's post-HB, when will you have surgery. Prayers it goes well.

Sorry about Sheena, Lorita. I know you love her and will miss her. I think you are right to make her comfortable at home. My mother's geriatric specialist told me on our last visit to not bring her back. She had 96 years on her, much of it off the paved road, and medicine has no cure for that.
I put my trash out today. It wasn't picked up last week, but the roads are clear now. Otherwise, I'm eating soup, reading, and deer watching. Maybe tomorrow I'll feel well enough to want to go to the senior center (or Geezer Center, as one member calls it.) We expect 52 degrees tomorrow, so that will help.
My calendar says there is a full moon tonight. It's pretty cloudy here, but maybe it will be visible later.

Lorita - I'm sorry that Sheena is where she is now. It's so hard. We do for them what we can. And they're family members.
JeriLynn - Have a great time on your trip! You're off and running.
HB - Ha! It did seem like January went on and on …. and on. And it was so cold, so dark, so dreary, just unfun.
I hope all of you enjoy the Thai food tonight.
Judith - I'm glad your sister is heading in the right direction.
How do you know we'll all never meet? Ron and Carl have met. You and Lorita have met. I'd say it's unlikely, but not impossible.
Carl - Were you not feeling well? I hope you start feeling better.
As for us - the weather is the usual - cool and rainy. But - for a brief moment the sun came out and the leaves on the trees and bushes just glittered in the sun. It was really pretty. By the time I grabbed my phone to take a photo, the sun was behind the clouds.
Also with the weather - I looked at the big camellia tree in the backyard. It usually blooms in late Feb-early March. Well, yesterday I saw one lone bloom on the tree! Way too early! And one of the other trees is covered in vivid pink flowers - also way too early. It usually blooms in March. I'm hoping that we don't have snow in Feb. (it happens).

GG…No. Lorita and I have never met although we are less than 2 hours from each other.

Thanks, GG, I'm OK. I just have my usual midwinter combo of depression and head cold. I'm thawing some strawberries and planning to go to bed early. Tomorrow will be warm and I'll be fine as 🐸 hair.

Carl, I might go to the senior center tomorrow myself. I’ve had a rash on my legs for several weeks and this morning I noticed it turning purple on my right leg. I went to urgent care and they prescribed some medicine. I can’t pick it up till tomorrow at the VA so I’ll be in town anyway.

GG, years ago we had to take Barclee ,our ShihTzu to OKC for eye surgery to a vet near Judith's house and we had planned to meet. However, Judith was ill so it didn't happen. She and I have talked on the phone several times and she was.very good to Sarah and did meet my sister. Good friends anyway.

Lorita and Judith - that must be why I thought the two of you had met - you live relatively close to each other and you've talked on the phone.

About bedtime so will say good night, sleep tight.

Lorita, I'm so sorry Sheena is not doing well.
HB, when is your surgery scheduled?
JeriLynn, enjoy your trip!
Ron and Carl, be careful if you decide to get out to the senior center tomorrow.
February is a short month—I have to pay close attention to my To Do list if I want to get things done.
Good night.

Good morning. Moderating temps here today— we may even rise above freezing. The sump pump came on a few minutes ago. Sometimes the exterior discharge hose freezes and needs to be swapped out, but so far that doesn't seem to be an issue. I'm hoping it remains clear as it can be a real PITA to dig it out of the snow and swap it out with a new one and the laying the frozen hose in the paved driveway to thaw in the sun so it can be swapped again. Should this happen, it'll be on DS to manage. Fingers crossed the snow is providing insulation to avoid a hard freeze.
The rodent has predicted 6 more weeks of winter. I am not surprised.
Beth—Thanks for the good wishes. Tomorrow is the big day. I should get a text around noon with a report time. The house is mostly in order. I need to dig out my ice machine/wrap and shower chair and set up a nest for myself on the couch. A friend loaned me a favorite book (The Frozen River) and my prescriptions are filled.
Lorita— It must be hard to watch Sheena not doing as well as you hoped.
I understand sometimes diabetic retinopathy and vascular issues sometimes are treated with injections, too. The kind of injection mom receives is fairly new; there was no treatment for dry AMD/GA aside from Preservision AREDS2 late February of 2013. Mom started in late summer; roll out was slowish because it took a bit for the insurance companies to add it to their formularies. She thinks it's been helpful. For a while her vision did actually improve based on her vision tests, but she didn't do so well at her last injection.
The specialist initially told mom Aetna wasn't covering it, but it turns out her prescription plan is separate from her MAP. Only U.S. senators have better health insurance than my mom's retired teacher plan. I called the prescription plan which led to an absolutely ridiculous exchange with customer service. Turns out she was covered and when I asked about the co-pay, she told me it would be $10 cheaper at Rite Aid then mail order. I asked if that meant we would pick up the medication and bring it to the doctor and she said "no, you'd inject it at home". I gulped and said "lady, it gets shot into her eyeballs, surely I have no business doing that". She burst out laughing and said "Lordy, that can't be right". Turns out it wasn't.
Carl— I hope you and Ron can meet up at the Geezer Center. This isn't a great time of year for anyone's mood.
Gothic— Camellias sound really lovely. I hope you don't lose a season of bloom to the cold. We have a few magnolias in my neighborhood that are early blooming and most often have their blooms destroyed by a late frost. I was careful to find a cultivar that was bred to bloom later on the advice of the lady on my street whose yard looks like something out of a magazine.
Ron— I hope the medication clears your rash quickly. It seems like it is always something, doesn't it?
I hope you all stay safe and have a pleasant day.

Morning….
Well dang it, somehow I've gotten the flu. I'm not one to be sick, so this is strange. I had the flu & bronchitis in 2005 then nothing until Covid in 2022. I've coughed so much my ribcage is sore. Nope, not fun at all. Of course I'm trying to keep DH away from me and going through Clorox wipes like crazy. Ugh. Back to bed for me.
Please e safe everyone.

HB and Eagle hope both are feeling better soon.
Carl is probably right about the daffodils. Will be a long time before Ohio sees them

Looks like s pretty day in store. Supposed to be in the mid 60s. Hope everyone feels better soon. Eagle be careful with the flu. I never took the flu shot until 40-45 Years ago. I had the flu and was off work three weeks. I was as weak as water. Always have gotten it since..
Got up once with Sheena just to let her stand a while. Must have twisted some weird way lifting because my right side is really sore. They have been out twice. Don't know what I will do if she gets unable to walk.
Got a text from Todd last evening. He is Sarah'.s husband. Has been and is, in the hospital with pneumonia and sciatica. Found several other texts from him I didn't know about.
HB, pray everything goes well tomorrow. How long will you be in the hospital?
Mint, how much snow did you get and I guess most if it is still there. We had probably 6" with some drifts. Still quite a lot still here but will probably disappear today. I heard this morning it's 47 days until Spring. I bet you are looking at seed catalogs. I got one in the mail three weeks ago.Daffodils look okay. Haven't checked on the wild violets. Back later.

met up with Carl this morning and enjoyed the visit. It was mentioned that none of us on the front porch would probably never meet. I’m welling to meet any of my porch friends for coffee as long as it’s within a hour drive from me. I could probably even talk Carl to ride along with me.
Speaking of Carl, I must have scared all his girlfriends off. They say me sitting at his table and probably thought they had been to aggressive with him and he hired a bodyguard to keep them away.
