He gave up his license!
DH's driver's license expired on his birthday at the end of January. He has been compliant with not driving after the kids and I expressed concerns six months ago and he failed an evaluation set up by his neurologist but still believes that "He deserves one more chance until something happens." I had been dreading taking him to get a photo ID, knowing that it would bring the issue back to the surface. We almost had to bail when the DMV clerk had him initial the statement indicating he was relinquishing his license because DH insisted he still needed to keep his motorcycle license - cuz that's much safer, lol. (He also hasn't been on a motorcycle for 25 years.) Luckily, I convinced him to just initial the statement so we could get going - the line was long. I'm taking the win!

Yes this is a big win! A big step in the journey is done. Great work!

that’s great. However please keep all set of keys with you or locked up. He’s likely going to forget he no longer has a license… especially in light of the motorcycle license discussion.

A big Win for you!!!…. @Quilting brings calm is right. I sleep with all the car keys under my pillow. My DH drove himself to the local police department (without me) told them he had to turn over his license cause he didn’t want them to come to the house and arrest him. The clueless cops let him drive himself home😳 Unfortunately, he doesn’t remember any of it and still wants to drive everyday. It’s the primary reason he needs an anti-psychotic medication. It heartbreakingly sad to have to see this each day. You may get lucky tho, there are alot of folks here with no issues. Just be extra cautious with car keys.

That’s definitely a WIN!
My husband willingly gave up driving about 5 years ago, probably around stage 2. That said, his driver’s license was going to expire on his birthday last year and he pitched a huge fit when I told him we weren’t going to renew it. Once I explained he’d have a Real ID card instead, he settled down. Surprisingly, without prompting, he handed me his keys to my truck a few weeks ago. He still tells his son he’s quite capable of driving. Big nope!
