Weight Loss Question

DH with ALZ is in mild stage with some moderate stage crossover behaviors. I am concerned about a 12 pound weight loss on his already thin body. He eats as he always has. His appetite is good but this weight has just dropped off over several months. PC doc seems unconcerned (I am seeking another PC). The only thing I can see as a contributor might be his pacing behavior. He paces throughout the day and especially at night before bed.

Has anyone else experienced this with their LO?

My DH has continuously been loosing weight. I've tried everything. His appetite isn't that great except for sweets. I've tried the drinks ,shakes finger foods ,you name it. The Dr's don't seem to worry about. Suggest everything I've tried. He is loosing on average about 3lbs every 2 to 3 months. So if anybody has an answer would love to know.

My husband is down to 127lbs. He eats more sweets than anything and doesn’t have much appetite. I was going to look into protein shakes or something similar.

My experience will not fill any of you with happiness. A note that I recognize that everyone has different experiences, but this is mine.

My DW began losing significant weight and pacing constantly. She lost 12lbs in two months, which was enough for hospice to approve her entering the program. Significant weight loss is an issue with PWD, particularly toward the end stages.

My caregiver gave her sister protein shakes when she began losing weight and it kept her healthy for longer. It also kept her sister and her from getting the help that hospice offers and she told me she regretted it because she could have really used their help.

    Hang in there, all.

My wife is in mid stage 7. She lost a lot of weight too, even though she's bedridden and has a healthy appetite. She eats more than I do. Your husband's loss is probably just a symptom of the disease. If his doctor isn't concerned, then I wouldn't be either.

My wife lost 35% of her body weight in 10 months. She was not eating much and got down to 86 lb. they said she had failure to thrive and she got on hospice. soon after that she started eating more and has gained some weight back. Now she is eating her whole meal. I don't think she is particularly hungry. I think she see's the food and thinks she is supposed to eat it so she does. So many twists and turns.

I would have him evaluated by hospice. Won’t hurt. He may be farther along in the progression than you realize. As BPS posted it can be an indication of failure to thrive. Hospice would know more than his PCP.
