Weird, I had posted good morning earlier at 4 something, but when I opened the thread just now it was in “Leave a comment” but not posted.🤔

DIL wants to go to a Karaoke Bar tonight, so guess I’ll tag along. Might even dance if I can find a woman strong enough to hold me up if I start fall. 💪🏻💪🏻

Be careful if you go Ron. I bet there will be plenty of strong ladies to help.

Beautiful warm day here. Just got back from going to the mail box. Also.took a.big.bag.of Lindor chocolates and.half.of the angel food cake to Darwin and Donna...He was.coming out of.his.house in his robe to walk some.

This.morning I saw Billy down by the pond so fixed.his feed.and called him.He came up to eat. Glad he did because it wasn't half an hour until they came to feed. I have enough for one more time so will have to get into town for more.

I jusr.got a Christmas card back that I sent to Todd.. Talk about snail mail. Just checked and I had the address off one number. Did the same thing with Carol's birthday card. I must be losing it!

I watched the women's competition in the skeleton this morning. Looks dangerous to me.

They are still feeding and it has Stormy upset. I think I will take a nap.

    Good Afternoon.

Ron. Sounds like fun going with your DIL, to the karaoke bar, make sure you get up and dance. If you like to sing, do that as well. Im looking forward to hearing all about it.

Lorita. Darwin and Donna. Im sure will be enjoying the chocolates and the angel food cake Yum. I know I would. I would think with the address being 1 number off the postman, would figure that out. Sheena, is in my prayers.

My daughter and I are taking care, of a cat, her name is Poppy. Her owners left this morning going to Egypt for 3 weeks. So we will go over to her house and feed and clean her box daily. I was a pet sitter in Oregon, so I really enjoy doing this. Nice day here, the sun is shining and it's a bit warm outside.

Good day to all of you, Hugs Zetta

Iris - Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, and especially Prince are all good for me. I'm not as familiar with Kendrick Lamar, although I saw a headline at Rolling Stone that discussed how influential he is.

My record album theory : everyone has a copy of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and Michael Jackson's Thriller.

Prince is my favorite though. I got to see him on the Purple Rain tour (still have my ticket and program!). He was fantastic.

Ron - what a nightmare with your plumbing. It sounds like it's all fixed now - which is great.

I hope you have a great time at karaoke tonight!

Hi MInt - I hope all is well with you.

Lorita - I bet Darwin is thrilled with the angel food cake and chocolate. I know I would be.

Hey there Zetta - Enjoy your time taking care of Poppy. I've always enjoyed looking after other people's cats too. 🙂

As for me - it's been a long week, but now I get to start the weekend. I'm looking forward to that. It's on the chilly side and raining, but at least there's no snow (fingers crossed it stays that way). The camellia flowers are starting to pop. There's a good number of pink flowers now, and I hope it continues to go that way.

I've been able to catch some of the Olympics, mostly while I'm at the gym on the treadmill. Today I watched a chunk of the men's halfpipe competition.

Happy Valentines Day to those who observe. 💝

Good morning. We're headed for 46F this afternoon which is welcome indeed. DS has agreed to take mom food shopping in my stead. I'm not up for her pinball approach to shopping which makes me crazy under ideal circumstances.

Ron— I did see your early morning post yesterday. I wonder why it wasn't visible to you. This site can be odd at times.

I am impressed by your late-night karaoke crawl. Sounds like you've fallen in with a tough crowd. LOL. I'm never out that late unless it's an ED run with mom. And I've never done karaoke. DH used to get roped into it when he traveled to Japan, where they took it very seriously. He's a real introvert and loathed those evenings so it's not something we ever did.

Dad did the ADT shots every 6 months, too, Ron. He seemed to tolerate them well and they were successful in keeping his cancer localized once it recured.

Iris— R&R would be nice, but I'm cleared to do whatever I feel up to doing. We've got a couple more meals frozen and some soup but didn't feel like eating any of it. The meds have started to upset my stomach which has resulted in picky eating on my part.

Lorita— 3-5" is a lot of rain. I hope it isn't inconvenient.

    ___________________________________________________________________________

I'm hanging in there. I'm doing PT 3x a week. It's kind of a PITA as the facility is in the county seat and a 35-minute drive, but they're part of the orthopedic practice and I like the vibe of the PT and facility. Unlike the past, I have one PT who I will see for all my sessions. The space is new and nicely set up with very calming atmosphere. It's work, but I am feeling better when I leave which is good. The PT removed my bandages (and several layers of skin- ouch!) and the incision looks to be healing nicely. I will have staples removed on Wednesday.

I developed side effects (nausea and a headache) to the powerful pain meds I am on, so the doctor has switched me to something gentler on my stomach. It doesn't work as well, but it's enough to take the edge off.

I hope all have a pleasant day.

    Good morning.

Happy Galentine's Day to those who observe!

Ron, I'm glad you had a nice time at karaoke.

Lorita, that was nice of you to treat Darwin and Donna. Is Billy walking better?

GG, is it hard rain or a drizzle?

HB, that's a long way to drive for PT. Do you drive yourself? I'm glad it's helping you.

Zetta, it's nice that you can get back to cat-sitting again.

Addendum: I just discovered that Galentine's Day is celebrated on February 13th, so I'm a day late. But I'm going to celebrate today.

    Happy Valentines Day!!!

In Ancient RomeLupercalia was observed February 13–15 on behalf of Pan and Junopagan gods of love, marriage and fertility. It was a rite connected to purification and health, and had only slight connection to fertility (as a part of health) and none to love. The celebration of Saint Valentine is not known to have had any romantic connotations until Chaucer's poetry about "Valentine's Day" in the 14th century, some seven hundred years after celebration of Lupercalia is believed to have ceased.

    Good morning

    Im doing ok GG.

HB That is about our high for the day too.

Hope you have a safe trip home JeriLynn.

Guess I will lose my roomie tomorrow. He got a job with a trucking company and will be going to Indiana for 3 weeks, I think, for training. Then he will be based out of Deleware, Ohio which is about a hour south of here so will be getting his own place. I hopeit all goes well for him and happy for him but i will miss him. People have lived with me several times before when they needed a place. It is sad when they leave but I adjust.

Safe trip,JeriLynn. Cloudy and sprinkles this morning. Very little rain, hardly enough to make a puddle.

I slept in until Max pulled on the cover Sammy rattled the doorknob and Sheena barked so I gave up at 10. I haven't stayed in bed that long in a coon's age. Fed Max and the others and got the meds down the GPs, had breakfast and am watching Arrow in the Dust for a while but will go back to the Olympics soon.

    Happy Valentine's Day.

I'll be back later, but here are a couple of quickies…

For those of you tracking ice skating - here's a discussion of Ilia Malinin's performance. I feel so sorry for him. And here's a youtube link to his performance.

Happy Valentine's Day to those who celebrate it! As I was waking up and reading the news I saw this short article about Prince and his song Kiss - We still swoon for Prince's "Kiss" Such a great song. Very minimalist for Prince. Enjoy!

JeriLynn, enjoy your journey back home!

Mint, it's so nice that you could help your relative when he fell upon a hard time.

Lorita, isn't it nice to sleep in once in a while?

GG, thanks for taking me down memory lane with that article about Prince's "Kiss". It was forty years ago!

    Good night.

Ron - I'm glad you had fun at karaoke night, and that you stayed out until 1am!

HB - I'm glad things are starting to warm up a bit for you. 46 isn't warm, but it's way better than weather that's in the teens.

I don't like pain meds either, I have a very low tolerance for them. Years ago I had a prescription for valium, and I took it for about a day. It put me in the ozone; I couldn't think straight, or really think much at all. Ugh, I hated that. I decided I'd just live with the pain.

Iris - the rain has been a light rain, more than a drizzle but far from a hard rain. Kind of typical for this time of year.

Prince was a good one. And you know what? The Purple Rain album still holds up.

JeriLynn - that's a great photo of the two of you. I love your glasses! I hope you had a wonderful Valentine's Day. Safe travels back home.

Mint - I know how you feel about roomies leaving. My s.o. and I always had people staying with us when we lived in San Francisco. I'm not exactly sure why, but we did. My two favorites were my cousin who used to do roller derby. Her teammates moved her in. Imagine my surprise when the whole team of really buff women showed up hauling really heavy stuff around. My other favorite was a friend of mine who did a lot of work on Mars stuff. He mapped some of the dust devils on Mars. It was always great every morning when he'd show us the latest from Mars.

Lorita - I didn't see any of the Olympics today. But I heard about the all the drama with the Canadian and Swedish curling teams. Wow.

My s.o. made paella today for Valentine's Day. It was so good. He's got that recipe down pat. It's been a nice, relaxing day.

    Good morning.

GG, Valium is more of a sedative than a pain medication. Perhaps an NSAID, such as ibuprofen, would have given you pain relief. Since you sre exercising so heavily now, it appears the pain is no longer an issue.

    I like JeriLynn's glasses too.

Morning, cold and windy here but the sun just came out.. It's so windy on the porch I had to put the bird feed in pans on the floor.

Didn't have a very restful night because of Sheena's panting. I can't figure it out. She breathes normally when asleep but just pants so hard when awake. It is quiet now so maybe I should take a nap.

    Lol

GG I didn't see or hear about the curling match you mentioned. What happened? Curling will be on later today.

I looked out the window this morning and there are two bumches of daffodils.blooming! It's the smaller ones, not the tiny ones, that bloom earIy. The.big King Alford ones are a little later. The grass in the yard is green and even the pasture in front of my.House down to the pond is getting green. We're supposed to be in the seventies all next week.

I hope everyone is feeling better this morning. It takes a while to recover when we are older (.speaking for myself).

The flu and measles are pretty bad in our State. I need to go in and get my rouine.blood work but hate to be in the hot bed of sickness in the doctors office.and so may wait.

I missed feeding Billy this morning. Heard the girls bawling looked out and they are feeding. Saw Billy walking up along the fence. He won't eat with the others and I'm sure it is.because of his vision -afraid they will hurt him.

    Back later.

Speaking of pain medications, when I was working as an RN in the hospital they started a new thing of asking people their "pain goal," that is "on a scale of 1-10, what would you like your pain to be?"

I thought, "that's the dumbest thing I've ever hear of—everyone wants zero!" But I had a job, so I did it, and I was surprised to learn that I was mistaken. The most common goal I got among people who had pain was 3-4, and I'd ask them, "why not zero???" the surprise showing in my voice. They'd often say that by the time they got their pain down to zero they were woozy or too tired to do anything. 3-4 was the sweet spot where the pain wasn't too intrusive and they could do the other things they wanted to do in their lives.

    Good morning everyone!

Ron, we camped overnight in the Great State of Louisiana, just outside Baton Rouge. This is the sky as we pulled into the campground. There was also a beautiful water view, a small lake I think but I didn’t get a picture this morning. But I sure enjoyed my coffee looking out the camper door.

    IMG_4337.jpeg

Had breakfast at a truck stop this morning; good sausage gravy and biscuits.
We’re rolling through Harrisburg, MS now and, God willing, should be home before dark.
    Ya’ll be safe today ❤️

    JeriLynn, what a beautiful sunrise.

Mint, as a systemic lupus patient, I had been taking Celebrex, a prescribed NSAID, for several years. It is not at all sedating. At the dosage I was prescribed, my pain level was about 4, like your patients. One time I was late refilling my prescription for one week. I noticed that my pain level off of Celebrex remained at about 4. So after that I stopped the Celebrex completely. The pain level has remained the same.

If on occasion the pain becomes higher, I will take a couple of aspirin or a couple of acetaminophen. That is usually enough.

All of the NSAIDs have the potential for kidney damage, so long term use has to be done cautiously.

This is cool: A group of former City Council members from the 1990s meet regularly in my city. They call themselves the OWLS. This stands for older, wiser, leaner and seniors. They got this name because when people would ask about a former council member, the response often was, "WHO is that"?

The OWLS are still active in civic events but none are in politics. When one was asked if he would run for office, he joked, "I'm not running for anything. I'm running away from everything."

The newspaper today had an article about an entomologist from Caltech who had been researching ants in the area that was devastated by the massive wildfires last January. He had feared that all of his ants had perished, along with a decade of research. He was surprised to learn that 13 out of 15 ant colonies had survived. They had taken shelter in the trunks of coast live oak trees, which is a fire-resistant tree species dominant in the area.

If you look at photos of the devasted area, you will see thousands of destroyed homes and structures but many tall trees are standing. The ant colonies were already inhabiting the live oak tree trunks. The researchers want to know, how did the ants know these trees would protect them from massive fire? Could these trees be useful in building fireproof homes in the future?

These ants are velvety tree ants who set up colonies in the bark of a tall oak tree. These are not house ants, which are invasive ants from South America. These velvety tree ants are important to the ecosystem of the area and they can shed light on survival techniques for both animals and humans.

Safe travels, JeriLynn. I read that tourist traffic in places like San Diego and Florida is down 25% this winter due to the trade war with Canada. I should have gone south and missed the record cold we had here.

Looks like Spring here now. Sunny and 60 today after a rainy Friday and Saturday, maybe 70 Monday.
