Iris - the valium I took was for something years and years ago. It didn't have anything to do with the gym. That said, if a doctor ever wanted me to take that again for something, I'd ask for something else.
And yeah, @sandwichone123 , I'd want my pain to be zero too, but if it meant I'd have to do heavy drugs, I'd probably be okay with pain at 3 or 4.
Lorita - the curling match between Canada and Sweden was drama-filled! Apparently a Canadian team member double touched the stone near the hog line (whatever that means, but it's fun to say). A Swedish team member called him out, accusations were made, swearing ensued, complaints were made. Here's a very short article about it.
I'm so excited right now - we have sun!!! And it's 50 degrees! Not warm, but not that cold. I might go outside.

Interesting about the ants and Canadian tourists.

Good morning. We got a couple of inches of snow overnight— the sticky kind that clings to tree limbs and looks pretty but not so much as to be onerous in terms of driving or cleanup.
Jerilynn— I hope you made it home as expected and that you returned to everything in good order. I imagine the various critters were happy to see you.
Mint— Well done you to support your nephew in reaching his goals. I'm sure you'll miss the company though.
Gothic G— I've never understood the alure of benzos like Valium. They used to prescribe it for all manner of things like back pain and even situational high BP.
I always found it just makes one fell kind of stupid. My current use of pain management has put a ding in my Wordle streak.
Sandwich one— Pain reporting is much on my mind of late. I think it would be very helpful if those doing the asking provided more context as I have clearly been under-reporting my pain. I told the PA my pain was a 3 the other day when it really is more of a 6. My goal is to balance relief with side effects— the oxycodone is great for the pain but upsets my stomach (even when taken with Zofran) and gives me a headache but the hydrocodone doesn't really touch the pain overnight. An added degree of difficulty is that the hydrocodone has 325mg of acetaminophen included which needs to be subtracted from my OTC dose of 4000mg/day. You've heard of "Girl Math"? I'm doing "Liver Math".Iris— 23 out of 15. That math isn't mathing as the youngs would say. It is interesting that the ants would opt for the safer option. Nature is pretty incredible at times.
Carl and Judith— About half the folks to whom mom rented before selling her place in Florida were from Canada. The couple she eventually sold to were from Ottawa. A reduction is visitors could have a big impact there. I hear numbers are down at WDW as well among international travelers, too.
___________________________________________________________________________________
I have PT later. The PT told me to take it easy over the weekend and allow for some recovery; I read books and did the simpler stretching work he suggested. I'm pretty stiff this morning after another rough night. I always feel better when I leave and I look forward to that. Staples (29!) come out on Wednesday so now I am perseverating over what that will feel like.
DS took mom food shopping on Saturday and caught her off her O2 concentrator. He was warned to check her O2 with the pulse ox before letting her leave without the concentrator. She was down to 78. Ugh. She bounced back to 94 but still.
Niece is taking her for her eye injections later today. In addition to sending niece the time and location, I had to fill her in on the level of assistance mom will need immediately after the shots which basically leave her blind for a bit. I also had to warn her about mom's shenanigans around the O2 concentrator. I swear I left her more detailed instructions for taking care of her grandmother for the afternoon than I ever did when she was 15 and babysat DS. Crazy. Mom is supposed to see her PCP for her annual Medicare Well Appointment next Monday; DS is going to handle that one.

Morning everyone
We made it home safely and found everything in order here. That’s always a relief but my daughter and grands visited the cat every day so we had some insurance against surprises.
The littlest Huntland great grandson had an ER visit for pneumonia while we were gone. His Mama texted last night to let me know and to explain that she didn’t want us to worry while we were away. And QUICKLY reported she WOULD’VE called if he had not improved after the ER visit. 😂❤️ I’m wondering if he needs allergy testing or evaluation for asthma. I’ll talk to her about that this weekend.
Mint, do you have pediatric asthma experience that you could share some insight with me? One of my kids had asthma as a child but that was 40 years ago!
Unloading the RV today. DH has put it up for sale. Doesn’t like the way it drives or having to pull a vehicle behind it. He’s decided he wants to go back to a 5th wheel camper to pull behind the Dually truck.
HB, good luck with your therapy and staple removal!Back later; laundry is calling 🤪

Good morning.
JeriLynn, how old is your great-grandson? I was a pediatrician and I treated many infants with pneumonia, usually in the hospital. Asthma in younger children may present as chronic coughing.
HB, thank you for catching that typo (23 out of 15 colonies). It is supposed to be 13 out of 15 colonies. I try to check my posts but I missed that. I corrected it, because otherwise it doesn't make any sense.

Good morning.
HB you'll be a new woman once the staples are out. They are restricting some movement and just over all it feels good getting rid of them. Balancing pain out is an issue. Frankly elevation and ice are your best friends for that. Are you icing all night? You can't over ice. Try to move the ice to the back of the knee occasionally for difference relief. You've got this - that baby knee just isn't happy right now.
JeriLynn I'm glad your back safely. I would think now would be a good time to sell you camper since its almost spring time. People will be wanting to be camping and exploring. My parents had several motorhomes - that was just what they liked. I will admit their last one was quite fancy and quite lovely. I'm glad your great grandson is fine now.
GG I missed the curling drama. Did you see when the "stone" split? Now that was crazy in my book. Enjoy that sun.
I've got to go to the store and I so don't want to. Today's the first day I've even felt like it in two weeks. DH said whenever I go it will be like the national debt!! The man can still make me laugh.
Let's be safe everyone.

Morning warm with a strong south wind. The geese are on the pond.. Hope they nest and have little ones. Fun to watch them swimming.between their parents.
We bought a motor home when I retired.but never took a trip in it. I lost my parents 13 months apart just after that so had to take over working the farm and caring for the girls. We did drive down to the lake a couple of times and Charles went fishing with his.brother once.
Didn't get much sleep last because of Sheena's panting-just can't understand that.. Generator guy came to inspect it this morning. Driveway alarm keeps going off because of the wind so Stormy is upset.
Watched one curling match and.now another is on.
Iris, that is amazing about the trees and ants. Nature and all the animals and insects are very smart and can adapt to climate changes. Looks like they will really have to be on top of it since we were pulled out of the organization that helps regulate things that cause changes. The goes for humans, too.
Think a nap is in order this afternoon.

Curling…had to look this up
Lorita…what does Mike say? Can you take Sheens to be looked at? Sounds like at best she it really uncomfortable.

It's 66 degrees, in February, in Iowa! Many people are out walking, with or without a dog; hubby is driving the convertible with the top down; neighbors are playing bags (corn hole). Just a splendid weather day!
I went to the gym this morning and spent 2 1/2 hours exercising. I am meeting a lot of nice people. It's been enjoyable for me. I have assigned machines to work out on (by the trainers); once I'm done with that I go do other exercises that I like to do; today that was dumb bell deadlifts, lunges, step ups, lateral step overs, lateral hops, suitcase march, farmer's carry, rowing, bridge and bird dog. My goals are to have strong bones/muscles and heart/lungs, meet people and have a good time.
Yesterday I raked mulch around the perimeter of the house and the day before that I rode my stationary bike for 53 minutes. As of the moment, I'm well exercised! lol
HB, sorry you are in so much pain but the light is at the end of the tunnel. I watched a video on exercises to strengthen the knees and one thing the ortho. surgeon said was that muscle weakness is often the cause of knee pain - whether that be in someone who hasn't had any knee surgery and also in someone who's had a knee replacement and continues to have pain. So your PT will help, eventually. Just takes time for healing too. Eaglemom knows! I think she has had more than a dozen knee surgeries. I can't even imagine going through all that.
Lorita, I hope Sheena gets to feeling better. It's hard to see a pet suffer.
JeriLynn, glad you had a good trip and things were in order when you got home.
Eagle, I am glad you are feeling better. Be sure to continue to get rest.
Mint, glad your nephew is succeeding in his field. He has worked hard for that. I am sure you will miss him.
GG, hope you are having a good day. It sounds like a lovely day weather-wise. Congratulations on getting your legal continuing education requirements completed.
Zetta, hope you are getting some warmer weather. It must be a shock to your system to go from Arizona's heat, to Idaho, but you will enjoy it this summer.
Hello to Judith, Ron, Carl, Iris, Sandwich and all others who read and/or post here. Have a delightful day and week!
Hugs, Beth

I've talked to Mike several times and had her to the clinic about five weeks ago. She is on pain meds and he doubled those had a round of two antibiotics, finishes today. Also had bloodwork which was normal. Only thing left is x-ray and if it is something that would require surety she is too old. He said it could be mental knowing or thinking she can't get up -she can if she is on her bed or a rug or outside. I don't think she is hot because the house is cool. If.I was her lungs you would think she would.huff and puff all the time but when she sleeps she doesn't.
I took Susie.over a few years ago and he x-rayed her and found liquid in her lungs and she didn't get to come.home. I am afraid that will happen again. She is 12 which is very old for a Pyrenees. He thinks she has.given up. She eats and drinks.. She can't get up the front steps but puts her front feet on the bottom step and I.boost her up. My back and sides hurt from lifting. I don't know what to do but want to do aLL I can for her but just cannot let her go to sleep. She is quiet and sleeping now. Maybe nerve pills?

Iris,
He is 4 1/2 and is DH’s grandson.
He appears small (to me) for his age and in comparison to the other two girls plus his parents. They would be (politely) on the hefty side. His sisters (10 and 12) are obese.
He has frequent URIs during winter and requires at home inhalation treatments and antibiotics. He attends a small in home daycare. He has a perpetual snotty, runny nose and he just “looks”sickly.
The parents are renovating the home currently and there is normally 1 elderly dog in the home. During renovations they are staying with the Grandfather who has 4 inside dogs (I know this isn’t helpful for his respiratory health).
He seems to be a very bright child but I have observed stimming behaviors when he is excited or stressed or doesn’t get his way.I worry about him. Something just isn’t right but I have to be careful with my questions and suggestions. I’ll be blunt and say the Mother comes from a dysfunctional family of drug/alcohol addiction and mental health issues. Mom herself is a high school graduate who thinks she is a rocket scientist. She’s not. Sometimes she’s open to suggestions and sometimes she just blows off things that to me are pretty obvious and potentially serious concerns.
Do you have suggestions for me? This little guy is precious to me. He calls me Grandma and piles up in my lap ❤️

Oh, JL. Maybe the mom can met up with my niece who has delusions of medical competency.
My most successful approach has been to forward information from sites like The Cleveland Clinic. I have not sharted my own opinion for some time now.

HB - I don't understand the allure of valium and the like either. Codeine is also difficult for me. I remember having a bad case of strep throat once and the doctor giving me codeine, and all I did for a couple of hours was lay down and see things out of the corners of my eyes. It was really unpleasant.
Impressive that you can do Wordle at all!!
I'm glad people are stepping up and helping out with your mom.
JeriLynn - I'm glad you made it home safely and that everything is all in one piece. That's always a nice feeling.
eaglemom - I didn't see when the stone split!! More drama!
Beth - I'm jealous of your 66 degrees! 😄 We were up to 45 today and somehow it felt much colder.
2 1/2 hours at the gym is impressive! It sounds like you're enjoying it, which is great. What is the "farmer's carry"? I do walking lunges everyday. I'm getting results, but I'm not a fan.
Things are quiet on my end of the porch. I spent a lot of time yesterday going through photos for the blog. We're trying to do between 4 and 6 photos per blog post. It all adds up.
We're also making plans for my aunt's 95th birthday party in early May. Yay, her!!

GG, Farmer's carry is walking (300 steps for me) with a dumbbell or kettlebell in each hand.

JeriLynn, allergic rhinitis is very common in young children. Many of these children have a horizontal crease on the nose due to rubbing their drippy nose all the time. A nasal smear and a complete blood count searching for elevated eosinophils can be helpful.
The potential allergens are all around, including dust, animal dander, grass, weeds, or trees and even foods, such as cow's milk. This is definitely a matter to discuss with the pediatrician.
Allergies are so common that parents may feel complacent. But allergies cause the child to be uncomfortable and irritable, and may result in behavior problems and poor learning. It's best to evaluate as early as possible, as I'm sure you already know. I hope you can bring this to the parents' attention. Does he have a pediatrician?

Lorita, I thought of you when looking at freedomfarmhouse on Instagram. They are a sanctuary; they moved to a property and there were 15 cats that came with the property! This couple had not had cats before but they adapted. Subsequently more cats have showed up (they're all inside cats now). In addition, they have adopted goats, donkeys and just recently a retired Holstein dairy cow. The cow is named Clarabelle and she was pregnant when she arrived. And the good news is, this baby she could keep and love on! Clarabelle has a large brushy item that she scratches herself on, plus they brush her and pet her and she loves it. She is living her best life.
Lorita, you are so right. They have personality and love to be loved.

Good afternoon,
JeriLynn with pneumonia you can have asthma type symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, chest tightness etc. Children with asthma are more prone to URI because of the chronic inflammation and mucus buildup. So if this is occurring quite a bit to me it is reasonable to be concerned about that I think.
A consideration also if there is a cat in house etc. that child is allergic to. Also if there is any possibility of mold or if they are exposed to smoke. Some children are bothered especially by cats.
i got to eat lunch today on my closed in porch. Thats my happy place where I vacation

Hi, cloudy and windy and I feel cold. Battling to get pain meds down the GPs to no avail. Watched some curling this morning. US.men lost to China by one point. More curling tonight.

Lorita. Molly also pants a lot. The vet tells me it do to allergies. She has done this for years. I was afraid it was her teeth, of course, she won't let me look. Last time she went in for a check up about 6 months ago the vet said her teeth look, good. She sleeps well, it could be because she is overweight. If there is a medicine for her allergies, I think ths vet would have told me about it.
JeriLynn. I bet you love being home, its always nice to go, but for me getting home is better. Even nicer you have people you can count on. My DD and I are watching a kitty while her owner's are in Egypt. We go over every morning and feed and take care of tne cat box. And spend some time with her. She is so sweet. One week down and two to go.
HB. Im So sorry your not feeling as well as you would hope. Please rest and relax as much as you can, it will take awhile to heal. I don't like pain, so I know i would take what ever i could to ease it.
Beth. I do remember the Arizona, weather, and at times I wish I was back there. The wind is blowing really hard today, I can't get my DDs dog to go outside. Im looking forward to the sun Idaho, gets, hopefully soon.
GG. The foothills behind us has some snow. I think we will get some soon, but hopefully not much.
Take care all, got to go Walmart, is being delivered. Hugs Zetta

Don't you love WM Delivery, Zetta? I haven't been inside WM since last November when I got my flu or Covid shot but will need to go soon. I ordered an electric heater and it isn't what I need so will return it.
Zetta, there is an allergy shot that really works. GPs have taken them For years. Stormy needs one now. You have to give Prednisone afterwards for a few days.
Can't get Sheena to eat to get her pain med down. Finally dissolved it and put it in a syringe to get it down..Really second guessing taking her to vet.
I have been going through a.big chest full of sweaters to donate. I bet neither of us have worn any of those sweaters in years. Ended up with three big trash bags to donate.Found so many pretty ones I had forgotten. Charles was a clothes hound and loved sweaters. Kind of hard to let some of them go that he wore a lot.
Did the area where you lived in Arizona look like the area where Nancy Guthrie lived? So much vegetation. I think of a desert just being sandy and.bare with a few cacti. Nice that you are enjoying taking care of the cat.

Lorita. Phoenix is only 35 miles from Maricopa, where we lived. Yes it all looks the same. I know how hard it is to take your pet to the vet, especially when they get old. Your in my prayers 🙏 ❤️
I love Walmart delivery. I did not start doing that till I moved in with my DD. Most of our shopping is done that way. Walmart will even come and pick up your returns.
Windy day here, Hugs Zetta

JL, it is really hard to tactfully tell a woman how to raise her child. I have had the best luck in giving unsolicited advice by waiting until the subject comes up naturally, i.e.: "My son is having a hard time with that runny nose this week." "My wife had a hard time with allergies too. She did a lot better when we kept a house with no smoking, no dogs or cats, and shoes off when we entered the house." Then I bite my tongue to keep from saying "You should do the same."
Having a nice day here, windy and partly cloudy with temps in the 60s. I'm still recovering from the respiratory thing and slept until noon but feel pretty well now. Went to the diner, the gas station, the bank, the post office, and the pharmacy, then stopped by Ronnie's place to visit. He recently had his shower redone with a seat, grab bars, wider door, etc. and they did a nice job. Ronnie's 10-15 years younger than I am but not as healthy (pacemaker etc.) He has handicapped plates on his vehicles and is retrofitting his house for old age.

Thanks Beth for the info about the farmer's carry. That sounds like a very good thing to do. I've never done it.
Zetta - when I went to the gym today one of the guys there told me that there was a light dusting of snow here last night. Thankfully it was all gone by the time I got up. I don't see any snow in the forecast, but it's going to be below freezing every night this week.
Lorita - I hear you about giving away clothing. I gave away most of my mom and dad's things, but I'll admit, I kept a couple of things that were special for each of them.
As for me, I went to the gym today, working out on my own. I had kind of a good time - most of my gym buddies were there so I had a lot of people to talk to. Funny how we make community. Beth, I bet you'll find the same thing.
I got a new blog post up today and Karyn and I went over so many photos for it. It's all so time-consuming, but satisfying at the same time.
