After 10+ years on this message board, I wanted to share my Mom's obituary.
February 18, 2026
My Mom died this afternoon in the bedroom of the old family home where she has lived for the past 62 years. It was peaceful and all four of her children were with her.
My Mom has navigated the complex maze of Alzheimer's dementia for the past 12 years. After her diagnosis we put together a team to help her live her best life. There were beautiful days as well as tough ones but we never gave up on the primary goal of keeping her comfortable, happy and safe in the place she loved most - her own home.
Jane Meade was born a preemie in 1931 in Bellerose but survived the early birth and grew up in a home filled with the love of five other siblings and two amazing parents. At a singles dance on a cold night in January 1960, she met my father John Maloney and they were engaged three months later.
Jane and Jack bought a small home in Massapequa Park in 1964 and raised 4 children there. They stayed in that home after all four kids were gone and lived a wonderful empty-nester lifestyle with frequent travels to the US national parks and cities in Europe. They regularly did weekend hikes around Long Island and upstate New York. They could be spotted riding around the neighborhood on their tandem bicycle. Mom did volunteer work for the church and several other organizations. Both were big readers and would often just relax at home in their comfy chairs and read for hours.
Losing my father in 2006 was a big blow to my mom but she persevered and continued to enjoy the good things in life including seeing three wonderful grandchildren grow and flourish. They were her pride and joy.
We love you Mom and will miss you terribly.
