Lorita. If your ready to take on a puppy, then do it. I know I was going to wait, after my last dog passed a way, but as soon as i saw Molly, my waiting time was over, and that was a few weeks later. You have so much love to give, I vote for the puppy. You spent a lot of time and energy taking care of Sheena, a puppy will be easy, and help you with the loss. Hugs 🫂 🤗 Zetta

Lorita, will the puppy require you going up and down your stairs every few hours? Personally, I wouldn't get a puppy, I would get an older dog. But that's me. I had an older dog in my upstairs condo but I couldn't take going up and down the stairs every few hours. I found her a home with children and a yard.

    Please do not rush.

Regular exercise is crucial for keeping your Great Pyrenees’s heart healthy and muscles strong. It also contributes to their overall well-being, ensuring they are happy and content. If you’re trying to decide how much exercise your pup needs, aim for two daily walks, each lasting about 20 to 30 minutes.

We had to rehome a dog because we could not provide what she needed. It was hard but the right thing to do.

Lorita. I hope this new egg hataches, maybe she will have another one. I think she knew something was wrong with the eggs, is the reason she left the nest. Your so right about dogs understanding what we say. I think Molly, understands all my words and actions. At times I have to be careful about what Im talking about.

Lorita. You've got this handled, we are all with you ❤️

Beth. That was a beautiful poem you wrote for Lorita, very thoughtful ❤️ and caring.

Ron. The picture of the sunrise is very relaxing and beautiful, I love that streem running through it.

Hugs to all your in my prayers 🙏 Zetta

Stormy wouldn't let me go without him, so we went. Went by the mission and left things and on to the feed store to got sweet feed for Billy. First time Stormy has been in town. Don't think he liked it.

Stopped.by the shelter and saw the woman who is fostering the puppies and Kate. Kate has run the shelter ever since it opened at least 15: years ago. Saw pictures of the puppies -so cute. She knows all about dogs and said puppies are very hard on senior dogs. The woman, Carol Ann, is 73 and she said she wouldn't take on a puppy to raise because it would outlive her.Maybe it is too soon. Kate said she would find a good one for me. Guess we will wait and try to adjust. Don't want to do anything that would harm Stormy.

Sandy, left the heater at the mission. Probably someone needs it more than I need the refund. My.back hurts too much to walk around much anyway. Hope yours can feel better soon.. Do not be doing anything.

Thanks, everyone, for your help. If Stormy and I were younger,we would go for it.

Sounds like you're on the right track, Lorita. Those cute 10# GP puppies will be young, active 100# dogs in a couple of years, and that's more than I would want to try to manage at my age. I think you are wise to wait until you find an older dog that needs a home. When I get ready to get another dog, I will contact the animal fostering people and tell them what I want. I'll bet I could call my friend KP and ask for an older pair of border collies and she'd have them for me in a week.

Zetta, I cannot take credit for writing the poem. It is actually a song that I had heard online. It is truly beautiful.

Ron, your photo is stunning! Thanks for sharing.

GG, next week I have new "assignments" at the gym. They include medicine ball box squat, medicine ball stepup, farmers walk (I got this one downpat already!), seated machine calf raise, magnum hack squat (it says hack but I think it might be a typo, perhaps should be back), powerlift delt raise, standing cable row, powerlift leg extension, glute kickback machine, dumbbell curl to press (I know this one too), chest press, & treadmill incline intervals. Today I grabbed a barbell and did deadlifts - I had been doing just dumbbell deadlifts - used same # of pounds (20 - I feel like a wimp!). I also tried to do back squats with the barbell but I seemed to be resting it on my spine and that didn't feel right so I quit - will need help on that technique.

Carl, I think you may be right, GPs grow fast. You know the far northeastern part, near Missouri May have groundhogs. There are more trees there, mostly farm and rangeland here..

Ron - your sunrise photo is gorgeous. I just love it.

Lorita & Carl - my honest feelings about getting a kitten or a puppy — age 70 isn't as far away from me as I'd like, but there it is. We will get two kittens in the not too distant future, but before we do, I'll make sure that I have backup. Who will take them if I don't live for another 18 years? If I get a promise that person X will take them, then we'll get kittens. If I can't find anyone, then I won't. Fortunately for me, I know a lot of cat people, so I'm not all that worried. 🙂 But that's my plan - I want backup.

Beth - that's a lot of work!!! But it's all good. I really like the seated machine calf raise (it feels really good). I hate treadmill intervals, but they're also really good. And for your dumb bell dead lifts - that's not wimpy at all!

I did some of the squats with the barbells just yesterday. Does your gym have any of those rolls that fit onto the barbell that you can use for your neck? If so, try that. It will help keep the bar positioned correctly. I have a photo of one:

    gymreapers.jpg

It's me and my trainer getting ready to use one of the barbells. That 'gymreapers pad is what I'm taking about. See the indentation next to the skull? That's where you place your neck. The photo looks weird because we're facing a mirror. He's taking a photo of the gymreapers logo for me because the pad is black with a skull. He knows I can't resist that! 😄

As for me, today we did boxing, kickboxing, and abs. I'm tired, I won't lie.

I got another post up on the blog, so that makes me happy too.

Beth and GG, you two are very energetic! Good for you both! I'm doing some exercises here at home.

Lorita, my 9 year old feral cat Sammie harasses my 17 year old cat Adam. Adam never fight back or tries to defend himself. When I hear Sammie, I distract him or pull him away from Adam. Sammie doesn't seem to appreciate that Adam is a senior cat and doesn't want to run around or tussle with him.

Ron, your sunrise photo is very nice. Do you enjoy sitting by the window and taking in the morning sun? I do.

    Good morning all.

Carl— We call them groundhogs here in Pennsylvania. I see the around but not like at my old house which was right on a large creek. Between them and the moles, the yard was constantly torn up. We were going for a more natural landscape, so it didn't matter but one did have to watch where one stepped.

Ron— The picture is lovely. Is that a sunrise or a sunset? How are you feeling? Is your BP behaving itself?

Gothic G— I'm amused that you workout at a gym that has Gymreapers equipment. It's just so very you.

Beth— They certainly aren't babying you. That's a respectably serious workout. Yay you.

Lorita— IMO, there are many reasons why a GP puppy isn't an ideal option. Aside from the physical risk of taking on more dog than you and Stormy can handle at your ages, your lifestyle is not conducive to the kind of training that a second owner will expect should she need to be rehomed if she outlives your ability to care for her. This could result in her being returned to the shelter which would be heartbreaking. It would be so much better if you could provide a second chance to an older dog whose person is no longer able to care for them.

DH drove mom and I to her PCP appointment yesterday. Ugh. It turned out to be one of those housekeeping appointments where one visit begat a to-do list of follow-ups tasks. We left with an order for bloodwork, a DEXA and need to see cardiology sooner than her rescheduled (because snow) appointment in late May. We were able to do the blood draw which was enviably normal and get in to see the cardiac PA but I have to call on the DEXA scheduling office still. FTR, I don't see a need for the DEXA. We know she has osteoporosis and we know that she doesn't tolerate the oral medications (Fosamax nearly killed her last winter), so? Doc said something about infusions with the new endocrinologist.

PT today at 1pm. I think I might be getting reassessed soon. I'm getting to be one of the old-timers at the rehab. I found myself climbing the basement steps foot-over-foot which is progress. Now if I could only get Baby-knee to sleep through the night.

HB, the picture is sunset, but sunrise is just as beautiful. My blood pressure is still jumping around with no change in my daily routine. I’ll be glad when March 11th is here where the echo and stress test should rule out heart issues.

Lorita, I believe mentioned this after my littlebit passed away, but I would not have another dog right now. Probably, if I was in better health my thoughts would be different. If you noticed I said; I would not have, I didn’t say want. I’m by myself way to much and a dog would be nice, but not fair to the dog.

Family wants me to met them after work tonight for crawfish. I’m a lazy eater and when I go out to eat I want my food ready and don’t want to spend time on a crawfish for a little meat. I’ll met them but will order something else.

The daffodils are beautiful and everywhere, in and out of the yard-more than ever and so big. Wish I could enjoy them.

I have to get another dog because Stormy is so lonesome - just walks around the yard.. Not a replacement, just an addiiion. If Stormy was a female a puppy might wotk.but nut sure how he would react to one. .He loved Barclee but he wasn't a puppy.

I hardly ever get to see a sunset because of trees but the sunrises are beautiful over the pond. Nice and warm and sunny today, so glad Sheena got to lay in the sun a long time.

I had a call from one of Darwin:'s daughter's who lives north of us about 50 miles. She knows the woman who runs the shelter there and will have.her watch for a dog for me. Wish I knew what we need or want . This is the shelter where we found Barclee. May be a good sign. If I leave the room Stormy comes to find me so he needs a companion.

Beth, the little ground hog is so cute.

You want a small dog (under20 #) that is house broken, does not shed and no dander. Additionally is leash traines, needs minimal to no grooming and has been in a home with other dogs. Please be certain that you have a trial period! Stormy may not actually like a companion now that he ges all of your atention.

Iris - the working out is all self-defense for me. Back in 2012 my mom really scared me - at 80 years old her years of inactivity really caught up with her. I tried to get her to do chair exercises one day (lift one leg up parallel to the floor, then put it down and do the same with the other leg. Do this 10 times), and she couldn't do it. Well, she could do two on each side, and that was it. 😱 I want to stay mobile for as long as possible.

HB - it sounds like you're making progress even if baby knee is throwing tantrums now and again.

The Gymreapers gear is newish for the gym. I don't think they had any of it before January - there's no way I wouldn't notice skulls on gym equipment!

Beth - that photo of Punxsutawney Phil great. The shoveling will be good for him. 😈

Lorita - 70 degrees …. I'll have to wait for July or August for temps like that.

Thinking of you and Stormy. I'm glad Darwin's daughter is keeping an eye out for you.

    Ron - Crawdads, yum!

Today's been a satisfying one for me. I've gotten a lot of work done - work-work, plus a head start on the laundry. And I went to the gym.

GG, yes, maintaining strength and mobility and balance are crucial to independence in older years.

Temp reached 93 degrees in my part of SoCal. I'm sure it was hotter in the suburbs.

    Good night.
