I think I need to stay stronger than necessary for my activities of daily living. If I am only strong enough for my ADLs, and I become ill and am bedridden for a couple of weeks, I will emerge too weak to do my ADLs and will need nursing home care with PT. Best to exercise and do the PT up front.
I met a woman a year or so ago who adopted a donkey without realizing it had an expected life span of 45 years. She doesn't expect to live that long, so she told her children they should plan to inherit a donkey. Thanks, Mom.
Here it is the last day of February already. We expect a week of rain, starting about Sunday, so normal March. The daffodils are in bloom and the iris and peonies are sprouted, so Spring is here even if the calendar says winter.

Good morning.
It's bright and sunny this morning with a forecasted high of 54F which should lead to some serious melting. I still expect the massive heap left by the plows to be with us another month. It's still well over DH's head in height.
Ron— Do you find your BP fluctuates with sodium intake? I'm sure you'll be happy to have some answers from the testing coming up. What did you end up ordering last night? I don't mind working for my dinner, either as a MD crab boil or a Maine lobster, but it's not something I want to go get dressed up and do at a nice restaurant.
Lorita— IME, the dog you're meant to have will turn up one way of another. I agree with Judith's description of what would be ideal but would also include the dog having been fostered/tested around cats as you have a responsibility for their well-being.
Carl— I had no idea donkeys lived that long. Yikes! I know my grandfather "inherited" a foul-mouthed parrot from his business partner. He was around for years until Nana finally put her foot down and rehomed him.
My daffodils are poking up but the leaves are very anemic looking as they've been under a couple feet of snow for over a month. I'm sure they'll be fine.
Gothic G— I've heard it said that sit-to-stands and squats are the two important moves needed to maintain independence. It makes sense. Before I took mom for 6 months of PT for falls, I thought she was in pretty good shape, but she had no strength in the muscles used for lateral movement. Fixing that was really helpful.
___________________________________________________________________
We revisited PT goals yesterday. I have 116 degrees of flexion in my baby-knee which is great. The PT removed the last of my Steri-strips. I was glad for that as they were starting to shed behind me rather like the Mummy. Yuck. I'm not working out hard, but I came home from PT, fell asleep through my 2pm Tylenol/NSAID and spent the rest of the evening on the struggle bus trying to get on top of things. Not a smooth move. The overnight went pretty well.
I flaked on dinner and DH wasn't feeling it either, so he picked us up some Chinese take-out which was a treat. I'm catching up on some laundry. DH has been talking about it as if it's some onerous project one needs to clear their calendar to manage which is just silly. Even DS is rolling his eyes at his dad's nonsense.
Gotta go; it's time to move the towels to the dryer or we'll be using Bounty after our showers.
Have a pleasant day.

Morning, to be 83 today, a record for this day. Bright and sunny already.
Thank you, Caro Lynn. Not the same without her, Stormy and even the cats are quiet. We were so fortunate to have her with us for eleven years but not long enough. Good to see your post. Hope you are well.

GG, the gym reaper with the neck cut out feature looks good. I don't know if our gym has one. I am so glad your mom inspired you to start working out. My inspiration: in 2025 my New Year's resolution was to exercise 5 days per week - I was doing overhead presses, farmer's carry and squats but not a lot of cardio. More recently I began going to fitness classes at the library and some of the gals there go to my gym as well. That inspired me. I have enjoyed going to the gym; I'm meeting a lot of nice people and I like working out, particularly doing something different workout-wise than just the 3 things I was doing at home.
Lorita, I won't give any dog advice. You have gotten that from others. What does Mike say? I trust you will consider this decision and do what you feel is best for your household.
HB, glad you are doing as well as you are; sounds pretty good for just 3 1/2 weeks post op. Many don't progress that quickly. Happy for you.
Time to shower; we're going to the thrift store - 50% off sale today (there'll be a huge crowd - 😕).

beautiful day here…Pre-emergence should be here ready for tomorrow…seems I underestimated my yard and had to call Anderson's for another bag.

Beth, have s good time at the thrift sore. Charles and I went to Tulsa often and visited several there. . Really enjoyed it. Haven't been to one in years except the mission where I donate. Didn't look around but did see some stemmed glasses I had been looking for and hadn't found.
Pre-emergence for weeds, I guess, Judith. Has your grass started to green up? I have green grass in early spring.but it disappears in summer so only have crab grass on north side of house in summer. I haven't ordered caladiums yet either. Was sunny here early but is cloudy now.
Got feed for Billy yesterday but haven't seen him since. Girls were out front but have left to graze.. Do not understand why they have gate to NE pasture closed.
Beth, Mike told me about a ten month old male Pyrenees but I couldn't get in touch with owner. That dog couldn't get along with their other dog and cats. I don't think he would have worked here. If it was a femalo maybe so.. I don't want to stress Stormy more than he is.. Mike said they would probably get along but would take time..

Big day in Huntland today. DH’s Great Granddaughter (of whom he has legal custody) is 18 today! Party at 2. This is her Birthday Basket of presents 🎁.
Prom in April. Graduation in May. And, off to University of Tennessee in August! Busy summer and fall ahead.
Baby goats coming soon.
April begins a month long camping journey following a lot of Route 66, ending in Palm Springs, California. I don’t know which way we are traveling back home but whatever: I’m game!0 -
Good morning,
Had a terrible night and really don’t know why. Could not get to sleep until 2 this morning and was awake again at 4.
Dinner with family last night was a disaster HB. It started with being a hour after being seated for anyone to take our order. I ordered a fish basket and received pieces of chicken that was overcooked. Three in the family ordered crawfish and all three complained about how small and hard to get the meat out due to being overcooked. The granddaughter ordered a shrimp poor boy and was the only one to be satisfied with her food. With eaten there before and it was good, but a disaster last night. The owner did reduce our bill, but that didn’t satisfy our belly.
HB, I don’t believe the blood pressure fluctuating has anything to do with sodium intake, I’m a creature of habit and except for exceptions like last night, everything I do from medicine, eating, sleeping, etc is pretty much routine. Blood pressure readings have been normal the last several readings, even last night and this morning.
I believe I’ll try and lay back down and rest!

Ron, what a terrible experience! Why would the kitchen send out bad food? On his show Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon Ramsey would check every dish before it left the kitchen. I am reluctant to send bad food back because I don't know how they would retaliate. Does your family do Yelp reviews?
CaroLynne, I drove Route 66 twice on the old days, good memories. It actually ends at the Santa Monica Pier. Have you been to Palm Springs before? There is a giant statue of Marilyn Monroe.

Carl, people always ask me, what are my plans for tomorrow or what are my plans for the weekend. They don't seem to understand that at my age, my "plans" are for every day to be the SAME. "Plans" take a lot out of me, so I try to keep them to a minimum. Is it the same for you?

I know it is for me, Iris. One day is the same as the last.and that is okay. When you don't have anyone to plan with there's no reason to plan. I did have plans for 43+ years but that is in the past.
You know there are more miles of Route 66 that can be traveled in Oklahoma than in any other State? It goes right through Tulsa and they are planning a big celebration.
Sorry about your bad meal,Ron. That is awful. Did the have an excuse? Iris, I think about what they what might be done to sent back food, too.

Good afternoon.
I'm having our fence replaced - one side at a time. That sounds efficient and easy to me, but goodness when you hire a perfectionist its slightly maddening. One day he was going to take one side down & the next build that side back - perfect. The taking down went well and fast, until said perfectionist saw a root. I think he had every tool known to man trying to cut it out. It wasn't bothering anything nor in the way & I have no idea where it even came from. He had dug a hole 3 ft in circumference & at least 2 ft deep only to decide "it was fine!" He did that again but it was much smaller. So that's why it took him much longer than anticipated to remove one side of the fence. The next day I ended up shutting our curtains because I just couldn't watch. He's a great guy, high ranking on the police force, well respected and this is a side job. He measured, then measured again then dropped a line to guide him, put up temp runners, remeasured then would put one picket in. He'd get his spacer picket, do everything thing again, then do another picket. only attacking the top. After about 4 pickets and well over 45 minutes he'd go back and check level on top sides and screw in the middle of the picket - not the bottom. That's when I stopped looking. I will say it looks fabulous. I talked to him several times thanking him for doing such a great job. He said this is where he relaxes - I thought to myself I'm certainly not relaxed! So one side is completed. Phew…..
Ron that meal sounds dreadful. Its rare we eat out during the evening. Its just too crowded and loud for DH. We do have one place we go with our group of friends, but we go into the private room so he's fine there.
HB your baby knee is coming along. That's an impressive bend. Just be careful as your energy isn't built up yet and baby knee is still in charge.
Lorita all of you are adjusting. If you bring another dog into the house that will be an adjustment also. Stormy might have a difficult time sharing you? I know you'll think everything through and it will be a perfect decision for you.
Iris I try to keep each day pretty much the same for DH. Of course things change, but in general each day is planned to be the same. I find if I mention something to him he tends to worry about it, so he does much better if I casually will say "oh no, we're out of banana's. I need to run to the store. Why don't you go with me?" If I'd say "we're out of banana's" before I could say anything else he'd be wondering why, when I was getting more, etc.
Carl it's good for us all to be active. Now I couldn't keep up with GG if my life depended on it, but we can have goals!
Think I'll go sit on the patio & stare at my beautiful one side completed fence! Let's be safe everyone.

Eaglemom, I hope you are paying the man doing the fence by the job, not by the hour!

Plans???
I do list three things to get done during the day. Once completed I move on to daily stuff..Incoming mail always takes a while. Calls, filing, recording etc. Usually done in a few hours that is when I turn to the ever present clutter/memorabilia.
My plans are usually appointments…lol

Iris, I live pretty quietly. I eat lunch, socialize and do a few other things at the senior center on most weekdays, go to Griefshare once a week, and see my son a couple of times a week. I shoot pistols and visit with one friend every week or two, lunch with former coworkers once a month or so, and lunch with my SIL and niece about once a month. Otherwise, my March calendar includes tax return filing, teeth cleaning, an oil change, an HOA meeting, and a bus trip to Branson to see a magic show.
When I was younger, people asked what I did and I told them how I earned a living. Now, I respond that I take walks, read, garden, and talk to my friends. If someone were to ask what I do for a living, I would say "breathe, walk, eat, sleep . . ."
I'm glad DW and I didn't save our pennies and wait for retirement to travel and have fun. I hope to travel this summer, but I won't be doing it with her. I won't be going to a night club or floating a canoe over a waterfall again, either.

Eagle, that would drive me nuts. Guess you will have to not watch while he relaxes. In the end you will know you have a perfect fence.
Darwin left his posthole digger here so returned it and took Donna a bouquet of daffodils. Even felt like bringing some in my house.
Took Stormy and I for a long ride and saw the progress on the data center and power plant. Them we took a two hour nap.
I think I have made a decision. You all may think i'm nuts and I may be but if it doesn't work maybe I can change it. Fingers crossed!

Here I am bringing in the night shift. 🙂
You know, I hadn't really thought about "planning" on a day to day basis. I put work stuff in its own bucket, which is really about tasks. Then there's the traveling bucket, and if it's to the Bay Area, who am I going to see, and then make sure I get on their calendar. I tend not to sweat any of that stuff. If it works out, yay, if not, oh well. We'll try again next time.
I'm still very much out and about - Death Guild anniversary is coming up in SF, Covenant (one of my favorite goth/synth bands), also in SF, is coming up, and we're thinking of going hiking next weekend. Otherwise, I like my daily routines - morning tea, gym, writing, etc.. I guess all of that is planning?
JeriLynn - That's a very pretty birthday basket. I love the colors.
HB - HA! No Bounty in place of bath towels!
Finally some warm weather for you. 54 degrees should help thaw some of that evil white stuff.
Ron - That's too bad about your dinner out. I've had that happen a few times - not fun at all.
Lorita - 83 degrees! We might see that sometime this summer, but it won't happen before that.
You're going to get a puppy, aren't you? 🙂
Beth - your gym probably has a neck pad (probably more than one). The gymreapers one is kind of fancy, the rest of the ones our gym has aren't quite as nice.
I think that's great that you made that resolution. That was how I became a vegetarian (pescetarian) - it was a New Year's resolution.
Like you, I've got several gym buddies now. It's kind of cool. The ones I see every day span the age ranges from about 30 to mid-70s. I really like that.
eaglemom - Your fence sounds stressful. And you know what? You probably could keep up with me. The key is to start out slow and then build up. All the stuff that I do now I started when Peggy moved to memory care (2021), so I've been at this for the last four years. I was one big ball of stress back then and the gym really helped me.
Today was a cleaning day, and I got it all done.
We made experimental food today … We both wanted enchiladas, but being on the ABC diet means no tortillas. So, we took the ingredients and put them together in bowls (with enchilada sauce). They worked out surprisingly well.

Thrift store report: I purchased 9 clothing items and my bill was $16. I gave them a $20 and told them to keep the change. The thrift store also gets a lot of baked goods from grocery stores and Walmart, etc and they are free. I got some bread and a chocolate cookies and cream cake that had a tag on it for $21.99 (free!)

Morning, cloudy and cool with some rain forecasted for afternoon and storms later this week. Beth, you have a good thrift stote. I always looked for pitchers and bowls. There used to be one in the town where I worked called Twice is Nice where we loved to go.
GG, you're right, I think we will try a female puppy. I just can't see bringing in a grown dog. I may be wrong so we will see. I can train a puppy to get in car and other things like I did Stormy. I have nothing but time. He is so lonesome and needs a companion.
