Orchids in a shell. I know where I can get a shell. Then I think maybe some good artificial orchids from Wayfair.

Yes, you can freeze Factor meals. That would suit me better

Factor meals, although the company recommends eating them fresh for best quality. Freezing is a good way to extend their life if you cannot finish them within the first week, with some users reporting success freezing them directly in their original trays or up to two months.

Morning, Iris, I know we are old but 99% of the time I don't feel like I am almost 84. Scary to say or write that number. Back is pretty good and no pain in sides, just weak. Don't believe I feel like driving in to get taxes , Billy feed or Stormy's meds though so will try to reschedule and see if they will send pain medicine for Stormy.

Groceries were delivered and put away. Ron, you could probably order your groceries from WM if they deliver out there.. I'm 15 miles from WM and they deliver here. Isn't it fun to see deer out grazing? I don't often but did a few days ago.

    Good morning.

GG, thanks for reminding me about your ABC diet. It is simple and doable for my diabetic friend.

I checked my settings and my software does update automatically. The last update was March 6th. Thanks for letting me know how to check that.

I have a complaint. I know a lot of you get home deliveries. Well, yesterday I stayed home all day awaiting a FedEx delivery. No one came to my door. In the evening, when I went to the mailbox, there was an "attempted delivery" notice on my mailbox! No, he did NOT "attempt delivery" because he would have placed the notice on my door, if he had come to my door. I am so frustrated! What's the point in paying for express delivery if they don't deliver to my door? I don't plan to be home on Monday nor Tuesday.

    Good afternoon, all.

It's sunny, DS is working as photographer all day on the Bunny trains, and nobody has any appointments anywhere so Yay!

Mom's still feeling pretty well but she did a hard stop on the steroids (for COPD they no longer taper— who knew?) yesterday so she's not quite to her new baseline. I'll see her tomorrow.

We got some good news yesterday. DS was accepted into his first-choice nursing program. I hope this helps him find his way. He's been at loose ends too long.

Downsized my mugs to 12…fertilized yard…moved firepit and planter

Iris…out of gas explanation. Tank was on very low, not actually empty, but low enough to know the first stop had to be at a gas station.

    HB…what are the bunny trains?

Iris, sounds like he went to the wrong door but found the right mailbox for the notice. Sorry that happened to you.

Ron and HB, sounds like you and yours are on the mend. Good news!

I slept most of the day and missed a really pretty day. It's 75 degrees with a brisk southern breeze out there. I'm going outside and catching a little of it before dark. TTYL

Carl, every day we have several deliveries by FedEx, UPS and Amazon. There is a site map in the lobby and all the units are numbered. The notice was on top of the mailbox, not on my personal mailbox. The driver was just LAZY! Right now I'm waiting for a call-back from a live person at Fedex.

Judith, I used to let my tank get very low because there were so many gas stations around. Now I try not to let it get below one quarter tank.

HB, congratulations to DS! I hope he won't miss the Bunny Trains.

Been very windy here today and warm. Feel pretty well-very little pain.Since trash runs early in the morning decided I would drive back in down and get the mail from last week. Did that, watered Billy and gave him more hay. It just about wiped me out. I had thought I would be able to go in and get my taxes done, get feed for Billy and go by and get pain meds for Stormy, but won't. Hope I can get another appt. And have meds mailed.

I hate not being able to do what I want but that will Be a few more days. I hope all of you are well today. We may get rain this week!. Sleep well

    Good morning.

Iris— How frustrating. I hate when that happens.

I hope that the flexibility of nursing will allow him to pick up the odd shift working on the trains if he wants to. At Christmas time especially, there are all manner of folks who sign on because they love trains. One of DS's trainees last winter was a retired pediatrician, another Christmas regular owns a big health food store in Philly and one Mrs. Claus was a retired science teacher rumored to be the original Ms. Frizzle.

Lorita— I hope you're able to bounce back to feeling like yourself soon.

Judith— Bunny trains are the annual Easter themed rides. The bunny visits the kids at their seats for treats and pictures. DS has worked his way up from bunny to photographer over the years.

Carl— That sounds like perfect weather. It's supposedly coming my way tomorrow. I'm looking forward.

Mom sees the retinal specialist this afternoon. I picked up some turkey and gravy for hot turkey sandwiches tonight when I get home. It's not quite Factor Meal-easy, but pretty close.

I hope all have a good day.

Carl, I appreciate you thinking of me with the beef vegetable soup. I had a prior surgery telephone interview this morning and also was looking for someone to help with taxes. I normally do my own taxes, but this year with the move from Louisiana (that has state taxes) and sale of home, I’m having a professional help. At some point I also need to check with community care on the denials of service. It looks like the provider just used the wrong code.

    Good afternoon

    Iris I enjoyed your pictures.

My mom is about the same. It is sad. You know my mom was around my age or just a bit younger when she started this long journey.

    My daffodils are

My nephews job with semi did not work out. I'm not surprised I had talked to him about doing a CDL B instead of CDL A job. I thought it would work better. He wanted to try and that is ok. His friend’s family owns a company that uses CDL B drivers so maybe eventually he can get on there. They don't have an opening now. Anyways he took a job with a fresh produce packager. Started this morning. I think semi was a-lot for his brain to keep up with and he became aware of how dangerous a job it is. Think that bothered him.

Had to apply for moms payee. Started this in January there has been a lot of obstacles so I don't have her address changed or her 1099. So Ron I get it.

Glad you guys are enjoying your delivered meals

    Good morning.

I will be waiting at home all day for the FedEx driver. I left a note on the mailbox for the driver not to leave a notice on the mailbox, but to come to my door. I hope this driver won't be lazy.

Mint, we need fresh produce packagers because we need more fresh produce. I hope this job will work out for him.

Hi, good luck with FedEx Iris. I have a really good driver now.. Have had trouble in the past with UPS leaving pkgs. at my mailBox more then a quarter mile from the house. Things are better now.

Feeling pretty good but weak. I did.go in to get taxes done. Tried to change appt. Time.but they didn't open until almost that time so decided I would go. Had to pay quite a lot because of no big payments out this year. They charge a lot more to do them than Sam. Maybe it evens out since I didn't have to pay last year. I wonder what million or billionaires pay, not on an equal basis, I'm sure. Felt sorry for Stormy because he wanted to go so badly. He thought I was going to not come back. She said I could have brought him, maybe next time.

Sorry your nephew's job didn't work out, Mint. My nephew was an over the road semi driver until he wrecked. He drove those cars that drive ahead of wide loads for a whilw.but think he is back to trucks now, way up.north. I hope the new job works out for your nephew. Good to.hear.from you.

Very windy and warm here to be 87 today, a new record. Rain for three days beginning tomorrow night..

HB and Mint, I'm glad your sons are making their way in the workplace. Ecclesiastes tells us that there is nothing better for a man than to work hard at his job and enjoy life with his wife. There's a lot of wisdom in that verse.

A new man came to our monthly men's breakfast today. He lost his wife to cancer on Thanksgiving Day. Nice fellow.

FEDEX hasn't brought my Factor meals yet. I hope they haven't sent them to Iris to make up for their failure yesterday 😉

Zetta what's going on with Jackie and Shadow. I just saw on the news the two bald eagles in Washington has two babies just hatched!

Just fed Billy and gave him more hay. He eats better when the girls are gone. Will Need to get into town after the rains for more feed. Stormy will go

HB, how often does your mother get her eye injections? Darwin goes for his early tomorrow and dreads it.

JeriLynn, the woman who did my taxes also has goats, and cows, hogs and chickens. Her granddaughter feeds the goats and chickens.

Carl - I didn't get the Factor stuff set up in time for this trip, but I'm going to get it set up for the next one. My s.o. is very on board for it (which is nice). We'd time it so that his mom doesn't have to be involved at all. She's 4'7" on a good day and weighs nothing, so no way are we leaving anything like that for her to deal with.

Ron - I'm glad you enjoyed your grandson's play. He was probably thrilled to have you there.

Iris - cool (about the ABCs and the phone updates). It's good when it all works out.

Judith - we've had the same issue with mugs. They seem to multiply! 😄

HB - I was wondering what a bunny train is. My first thought was "bunnies, bunnies, it must be bunnies!" It was Anya's song about bunnies on the musical episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", and since I'm probably the only one here who watches that, I knew that couldn't be right. 😄

Lorita - are you getting enough protein? If you aren't, that could be contributing to your weakness.

We're getting ready for Charleston - finishing cleaning the house, packing, etc. Pretty soon I'll be in the same time zone as many of you.

Carl, I would have liked to have gotten your Factor meals by FedEx, but alas, that didn't happen. I hope yours finally came.

Lorita, GG is right, you need to prioritize protein. Although my muscles are still achy from my trip, my BRAIN seems to be more awake and I seem to be functioning better. I attribute this to having eaten eggs for breakfast almost every morning since the beginning of the year. I also have been eating rotisserie chicken. I aim to get at least 20 grams of protein for every meal. Before I was on more of a vegan diet.

Lorita, do you think you are getting enough protein in your vegetarian diet?

I have a serious question for my porch friends. Am I becoming a curmudgeon? I've had two recent experiences with young people that made me ponder.

The FedEx guy came today and just dropped my package on the floor in front of my door. I didn't even have to sign for it. That was the reason I made sure to stay home so that I could sign for the package . If I didn't have to sign, why didn't he deliver the package on Saturday, when he was here? I think he was just too lazy to come upstairs. But he had to drive all the way over here today and come upstairs anyway.

I had to go to T-Mobile to buy earbuds because I couldn't find the ones I already have. There were four employees in the store, all sitting down. Finally, after about two minutes, one raised his head and asked if I needed help. I said yes. He hesitated, then asked what was I looking for. I told him ear buds. Then he finally got off his keester and came over to me. I'm used to employees coming over to me in a store. I think he wanted me to walk over to him. I think he was lazy, too.

Is it my imagination, or are young workers getting lazy? Do they not realize that drones and kiosks will be replacing them if they are not productive? Or am I being too old fashioned?

Another thing: my ear buds at T-Mobile cost $21, but I found ear buds at the supermarket for $5.49. Granted, T-Mobile ear buds were from Apple and the supermarket brand was not Apple, but that is still quite a difference in price for the same item.

    Am I a curmudgeon?

Good morning. It's supposed to be pushing 80F here today which is close to a record. Tomorrow too.

Judith— Virtual soup? I'd vote for a New England clam chowdah. It's a favorite and something I only get when I'm there.

Ron— I'm thinking of you on your anniversary. Lou made an absolutely gorgeous bride. Am I recalling correctly a celebration you posted about years ago. Was there a picture of you both where she was wearing corsage and you looked like you wear show dancing?

Mint— I am so sorry things didn't work out as your nephew had hoped. DS had a classmate and brother scout who had some learning differences. He struggled right after high school to find his feet. He attended an automotive tech program in high school. During band camp, I used to help him study as the book portion of the class was a challenge. He had a great work ethic and learned by doing. After a few unsuccessful attempts, he found a job at UPS as a driver. He's doing great now— is something like that a fit for your nephew?

Iris— I don't know if you're a curmudgeon or not. It's hard to parse the FedEx situation without knowing if it was the same driver or not. I could see where a substitute driver might now be familiar with how deliveries are made in your complex or even where your unit is. I rarely get a package handed to me directly unless I meet the driver before he gets to the door or if the package requires a signature (most things don't— DH ordered me some pearl earrings at Christmas that didn't need to be signed for, and some medications don't).

Earbuds? I find younger employees do things differently. TBH, sometimes I'd rather not be jumped on eagerly when I enter a store. (OMG, the women who work at Ulta are so annoyingly pushy) I find earbuds are a "you get what you pay for" item personally. Apple makes a decent earbud; the ones in the supermarket are basically disposable. DS is a heavy earbud user. He has a decent pair currently (well over $100 and a gift from my niece) but before that they'd last a couple of months at most. Invariably they'd die on him later in the evening and he'd run to the grocery store where he got some cheapish piece of crap instead of waiting until Staples or Best Buy opened in the morning. They'd break quickly and we'd rinse and repeat.

Lorita— Mom gets the Syfovre injections every 8 weeks, but they can be given on a different schedule anywhere between 25 and 60 days. Other medications might have different schedules; my aunt goes every month.

Gothic G— Sending Focus Factor to Charleston is a bit like coal to Newcastle. I understand there is some excellent food to be had in the area. I never personally saw it when I visited but I was charged with babysitting a picky 9-year-old the one time I was there. BIL has since moved to Dirty Myrtle. There's good sea food there and, weirdly, great diner breakfasts. Do you stay at a hotel when you visit or does MIL have room for guests?

    _______________________________________________________________________________

Mom's eye appointment went smoothly. Her vision seemed not-so-great compared to what niece reported last month. She was missing a lot of the left side of her field of vision. I suspect she'd be much worse without the medication at this point.

She was off her O2 when I arrived to collect her. The reason du jour: "I had to run out to grab my mail". Just stop with this nonsense. That said, when I checked the pulse ox, she was holding fairly well in the upper 80s which is a big improvement over last week. Perhaps the spironolactone is buttering the biscuit. She's supposed to be checking her BP. Alas; I cannot find her cuff. I know she had one. It used to live in a wicker box on her kitchen counter. The box is gone and I checked all of the logical places where it might be without success. She tried to tell me her cleaner "put it somewhere". The cleaner is great, but mom claims she "steals" the unfinished roll of paper towels when she leaves which is just crazy.

This morning she sees her phlegmatic PCP. He'll review her vitals and ask me when I've scheduled her cardiology and pulmo appointments and then we'll be on our way. I have PT 40 minutes away after that. I hope I have time to change into workout wear; I'll toss it in my car just in case.

I need to sort out dinner. I do have a little ham I could glaze in a pinch.

I do not remember ever signing for a FedEx package and they always drop them at the front door. I always get a delivery on the day they say it will be delivered. Keep in mind that orders come from different warehouses so items you order together may well come at different times.

Ear buds…you will pay for some quality. You might not need Apple.

Wow…am I the last to learn about eye injections????

Ron…you and Lou pic…sigh. I know you miss her with a terrible ache in your heart.

Virtual Clam Chowder I can do. 6p on the porch everyone. Someone please bring the little crackers and maybe some beer. Lemon bars for dessert.

    Good afternoon

Carl I agree. My nephew is 24 but in ADHD years he is 19. They are 3-5 years behind I read. He is behind in dealing with life but not socially. He worked night shift at WM for a year and did well there but he wanted something better. Im seeing him mature. When the semi didn't work out and he saw he would have to wait awhile to get other job he started looking for some way to make income in meantime and applying all on his own. That is a huge improvement.

Yes HB I do feel my nephew coul drive for UPS, Frito Lay etc. He has normal intelligence per testing just had trouble learning like schools teach. Also is challenged with confidence around those he don't know or aren't patient with him when he doesn't catch on immediately . At private school he was made fun of and had no friends. He told his mom on last day of school I will never go in that building again. She transferred him to a city school and he made friends there, who are still friends with him, do things with him even though they don't have his challenges.

HB I know your son did work on the train, did he get a new job? Sorry if I missed I have not been able to keep up well lately.

    take care everyone

Morning, windy and warm again. I know I'm. Not getting enough of really anything yet. I can begin to add things now. May cook some carrots and potato soup -Bear Creek, or maybe some of Judith:s soup would work. Scrambed eggs sound good later. I think I get enough protein from legumes and dairy but guess I could use more, plus more fiber. I used to give myself B12 shots years ago- now use pills.

Darwin just called. He is home and now worried about Donna. One of his daughters took them and now Donna isn't feeling well. They had her shower and.both are laying down. Probably the long trip that she isn't used to having was too much for her.

Thought I might have to go to the clinic for pain meds for Stormy but called and Cassie got them in the mail yesterday. Should be here today or tomorrow.

I will provide the crackers to go with the soup, Judith.

Carol called and said there were at least three demonstrations in her town and another in Tahlequah. I heard there were 16 in Oklahoma. Back later
